He probably hears it a bazillion times a day: "l have a hard time trusting dentists. I don't really like 'Em." Cause, ya know, he IS a dentist. He's right up there with lawyers in the knock knock joke department. At least, that's how I felt before seeing him for a root canal redo. I'd been referred to him, sight unseen, by another dentist office. So I already felt passed around and dismissed. But now I prefer the term "TOOTH SLEUTH" when I think of good dentists. That's Dr. Newcomb and his staff. He gets to the bottom of the problem, and then looks for several solutions WITH his patient! And proves where the best, most comfortable option lies, and makes sure the patient (that's me) feels part of the process. A big thank you for that! Dr. Newcomb's character and humor let me trust him, even though I'd already decided that dentists are "the worst." He's an exception. His knowledge and experience back that up. In fact, in ferreting out what was causing my tooth pain, he suggested we don't do a root canal redo. He showed me with sound technology why I could trust the (better, less expensive) alternate option, but he PROVED I was valued and heard with his unrushed, unassuming, "let's slow down and make sure you're comfortable and understand" personality. I'm happy and confident to go back to him.
