Dr. Chauncy Nelson, the founder of Nelson Orthodontics, is a graduate of Dillard University and Louisiana State University School of Dentistry in New Orleans, Louisiana. He also received his certificate of Orthodontics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Prior to becoming an orthodontist, Dr. Nelson taught on the faculties of the dental schools at the University of Alabama and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Proceeding dental school, Dr. Nelson completed his general practice residency at Charity Hospital in New Orleans followed by his prosthetics residency at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Wilmington, Delaware.

Outside of his world-class practice, Dr. Nelson is a loving family man and is involved with the community. Dr. Nelson is happily married to his wife, Dianne and they have four children, Jeremy, Eli, Ana, and Michaela. He is also an active member of Rotary International.

I am a UNC-trained Orthodontist and thrilled to be part of the team at Nelson Orthodontics! My family fell in love with North Carolina when we moved here 15 years ago from Brazil, and I am committed to caring for our vibrant community in the years to come. A bit about my training: I received my D.D.S. degree in 2005 from the Federal University of Santa Catarina, Brazil, before moving to the US to complete a Master of Science and Certificate of Operative Dentistry at UNC in 2010. Then, I joined the University of Louisville, Kentucky as a faculty member teaching operative dentistry.

After years in academia, I decided to pursue my passion for Orthodontics. In 2019, I completed a Master of Science and Certificate of Orthodontics from the esteemed UNC Orthodontics Department and subsequently began a D.D.S. program to obtain a US dental degree and license. I graduated with full licensure as part of the UNC Dental Class of 2021.

Dr. Alfred Terp grew up in a small town on the eastern end of New Yorks Long Island. He graduated from Vanderbilt University in 1988 with a degree in chemistry and a US Army ROTC commission. He delayed his military service to attend dental school at the University of Pennsylvania graduating in 1992. Following graduation, Dr. Terp completed a one year general dentistry residency at Fort Sill, Oklahoma; he then served as a general dentist in Giessen, Germany, and later as the 1st Special Forces Group dentist in Fort Lewis, Washington. In 1998 Dr. Terp was selected for orthodontic training at the Tri-Service Orthodontic Residency Training program in San Antonio, Texas, graduating in 2000. His tours as an Army orthodontist include: Fort Hood, Texas, Walter Reed Army Medical Center, D.C, Landstuhl, Germany, Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, Bethesda, MD, and currently, Chief of Orthodontics, Womack Army Medical Center, Fort Bragg. He has been the orthodontic mentor to 3 different oral surgery residency programs, 2 different general dentistry residencies, and the orthodontic team member to 2 cleft palate teams.

Dr. Terp has completed over 28 years of active duty service and will retire in August of 2022 with 30 years of service. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics, an active member of the American Association of Orthodontics, as well as the American Dental Association. Dr. Terp and his wife, Marie, have been married for 27 years and have 3 sons attending college. Jerry, their oldest, is in his 2nd year of law school in Charleston, SC. Ethan is a senior engineering student at the University of Miami, and Christopher is a junior studying business administration at Duquesne University in Pittsburg. Dr. Terp and his wife live in Southern Pines, and, as this is their first time living in North Carolina, are thoroughly enjoying exploring all the opportunities this beautiful area has to offer.

Upon completion of his undergraduate education at the University of Notre Dame, Dr. Griffies went on to earn his professional education from Baylor College of Dentistry. He received his certificate in orthodontics from the U.S. Army Orthodontic Training Program at Fort Meade and practiced dentistry and orthodontics in the Army for 22 years. In addition, he served as the orthodontic instructor for three Army Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery training programs and the Fort Bragg General Dentistry training program. In July 2005, Dr. Griffies retired as the Orthodontic Consultant to the Army Surgeon General and Deputy Commander of the Ft. Bragg Dental Activity.

Dr. Griffies and his wife Janice started their current orthodontic practice in Raeford, North Carolina in 2003. Prior to this, they both assisted in the treatment of Cleft Lip and palate children at Border Childrens clinic in El Paso, Texas for 5 years. This rewarding experience left an indelible mark on them to where they now seek to treat these children and other craniofacial anomaly children in their current practice. Janice has carefully and tastefully created two beautiful offices, one in Raeford and one in Seven Lakes to provide quality, friendly and professional orthodontic care for all.

Dr. Griffies remains active in his field and holds professional memberships with the ADA, AAO, Cleft Lip and Palate Association, North Carolina Dental Society, Southern Association of Orthodontists, and the Sandhills Dental Study Club. He continues to lecture extensively to the Army Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery programs both at Ft Bragg, Bethesda and Tripler Hawaii. In addition, Dr. Griffies is Board Certified by the American Board of Orthodontics and is a member of the College of Diplomates of the American Board of Orthodontics. Dr. Griffies is dedicated to maintaining a reputation of excellence in the field of orthodontics.

The staff at Nelson's orthodontics did a wonderful job of greeting us as a first time client guiding us through the process. The initial evaluation of my daughter was thorough, well explain and all questions were answered. Different treatment options were discussed the benefits of each as well as the potential disadvantages.

Overall the staff is okay, had some good and some bad people/days. I've had a couple little things that bothered me but the main thing is getting them off. When I got my braces off here to lady was beyond rough, I honestly thought she was ripping my teeth out and my gums were bleeding for over an hour. After she took them off though I felt okay until The next day. I went to get a clear retainer and that retainer hurts worse than the entire time I've had braces. I feel like it doesn't fit me right and my gums continue to bleed in my retainer days after.

Dr. Nelson and his staff were absolutely the best! Not only did they make me feel comfortable (being an adult) getting braces, but they also catered to my daughter whenever she came. The staff were very friendly and very informative throughout the entire process. Dr. Nelson made sure I was satisfied after each visit.

This dental clinic's customer service is very poor. The dentist and back staff are approachable and courteous, however, the front desk staff are unprofessional. After six months, i am still having issues with the payments. There is no online payment system established, payments must be done by phone. Well, they never answer the phone and when they return your call (after four to five attempts) is already late; inquiring a late fee. Also, appointments were cancelled for the past months due to COVID-19 which is understandable, I have receive neither an email nor a phone call to explain future plan. Yet, monthly payments were required. Do not recommend.

I enjoy my visits to Nelson Orthodontics. My son also had braces and now has a retainer. We both are patients. I have braces now as an adult and I enjoy gong to Nelson Orthodontics. If I have an issue with my braces they always fit me in. All the staff are friendly. I like making the staff laugh and they keep me smiling as well. Dr Nelson is the best. He explains the progress of my treatment. I would and have referred people to Nelson Orthodontics. I'm happy on how my teeth are progressing with my treatment.
