Dr. James Nelson completed his Bachelor of Science degree in biology at Black Hills State University before attending dental school at the University of Minnesota, graduating in 1986. He practiced in a group dental practice for 10 years before deciding to branch out and open his own office. He continues his dental education regularly in order to stay at the forefront of the dental field, and enjoys helping his patients with large cosmetic cases and full mouth reconstruction. He has practiced in the Rapid City area for over 30 years.

As a dentist, he is committed to treating everyone in a happy, clean and modern environment. He is honest in his approach and treats each patient he meets as he would a member of his own family. Dr. Nelson built his practice on integrity and compassion for all of his patients, and he is proud that this philosophy has continued as his practice has grown over the years.

Dr. Nelson greatly enjoys working with Dr. Bury and his daughter, Dr. Mandy. In his spare time, he enjoys hunting, fishing, skiing and golfing. He also loves giving his time to great causes, such as the Donated Dental Program, the Worlds Orphan Choir from Liberia and Peru, the Make-A-Wish Foundation and countless other things dear to his heart.

Dr. Matthew Bury grew up in Rapid City, South Dakota. He obtained his undergraduate degree in human biology at the University of Montana in Missoula. Dr. Bury completed his dental school degree at the University of Nebraska College of Dentistry in Lincoln, where he graduated at the top of his class with high honors (Go Huskers!). Following dental school, Dr. Bury practiced in Winner, South Dakota, but jumped at the chance to come back home to the Black Hills and partner with Dr. Nelson. Dr. Bury has always had a deep appreciation for dentistry because he is able to utilize a mixture of science and art in order to help patients achieve beautiful and healthy smiles. He is dedicated to his patients and makes it a priority to provide high-quality dentistry in a comfortable atmosphere. Dr. Bury has a strong commitment to his profession and participates regularly in continuing education courses in all areas of dentistry in order to stay up-to-date on new dental techniques and materials. Dr. Mandy Nelson grew up in Rapid City, South Dakota. She completed her undergraduate degree in biology and pre-health professional studies as well as her dental school degree at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Dr. Mandy is committed to providing the best quality of care to her patients through the use of comfortable and advanced dental procedures. She uses compassion when it comes to her patients and strives to ease the dental phobia that some patients experience during dental visits. She wants everyone to feel proud of their smiles and enjoy a better experience at the dental office. Dr. Mandys goal is to show people that they do not need to be afraid of the dentist, and she has dedicated herself to achieving that result.

Dr. Mandy is a member of the American Academy of Facial Esthetics and has completed additional training in order to offer BOTOX, dermal fillers and PDO threads to her patients. Botulinum toxin is very effective in treating headaches and pain caused from TMJ disorders and teeth clenching. She took a special interest in this type of treatment after receiving it herself for migraines and bruxism. She is also a member of the American Dental Association, the South Dakota Dental Association and the Black Hills Dental Society.

Dr. Mandy enjoys spending time with her husband, Michael, who is a pilot in the Air Force, and their puppy, Vegas. Friends and family are everything to her. She also loves music, movies and fishing. Dr. Mandy looks forward to meeting all of you and is happy to welcome new patients to our practice.

We appreciate the friendly atmosphere of the staff and all the doctors. Our favorite hygienist is Shaylon. She treats my kids with such care and praises them when she sees good habits of brushing and flossing. My kids always enjoy their visits and look fowards to going back.

Gave me multiple fillings that other dentists said were unnecessary.all on one side.when he did it they were filled way too much to the point where I couldn't close my teeth fully. It made drinking and eating extremely painful. After months of waiting for an emergency appointment they immediately tried to convince me that I needed a root canal. I persisted that the fillings were placed wrong and he fixed them. However my teeth have been extreamly sensitive ever since the fillings were placed

For a guy that fears the dentist, everyone was great and very accommodating. This was my first visit here and I've already scheduled my six month follow up. And to make the visit even better, I'm still in the NO CAVITY CLUB!

I had a wonderful experience here. After having a few negative experiences at the dentist, which kept me from going to the dentist for several years, I was very nervous but knew I needed to return. I was very upfront with them about my concerns. I was met with kindness, no shame, and a priority to keep me comfortable. It was so much relief after my appointment!

I have been a client for about a decade now and I would never go anywhere else. The whole staff is kind and professional. My daughter is 6 and has also only had wonderful experiences. She used to get nervous easily, but they are so calm and patient with children she quickly got over that. The entire staff seems to always be in a good mood and have great communication with each other. There is obviously a lot of good structure in this business! Thanks again, Sarah J.

The team at Nelson & Bury is phenomenal, from the front desk to the hygienists to the dentists - they all truly care for the patient! Our family has been going to them for regular check ups for years and recently needed their services in a more emergent situation. Even though they were fully booked, they made sure we were taken care of in a timely manner. Extra bonus is that my 5-year-old still loves the dentist!
