Dr. Brian Herod was born and raised in Richmond, Virginia. He graduated cum laude from James Madison University and attained his DDS degree from Virginia Commonwealth University School of Dentistry. After graduating, Dr. Herod completed a one year Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency at VCU. In this program, he obtained advanced training in complex patient care, implant dentistry, cosmetics, surgery, endodontics, and orthodontics. He is also trained and certified as an Invisalign provider. Dr. Herod is a member of the American Dental Association, Virginia Dental Association, and Richmond Dental Society.
Dr. Herod believes that every patient deserves an individualized dental experience and treatment options that are specific to their medical history and genetic predispositions. He focuses on intensive patient education, to facilitate informed treatment decisions. Dr. Herod understands the important connection between oral health and overall health. His passion for the growing field of biological dentistry has led him to become a member of the International Academy of Oral and Medical Toxicology (IAOMT). Dr. Herod sees holistic dentistry as an integrative approach, rather than a one size fits all method of care.
Dr. Herod also serves as a Clinical Instructor at the VCU Advanced Education in General Dentistry Residency. In this program, Dr. Herod aids in the education of other dentists in advanced dental techniques and procedures.
When not in the office, Dr. Herod enjoys being in the outdoors and spending time with his wife and three children. Dr. Herod believes that every patient should be listened to, understood, and appreciated, but most importantly treated like family. He looks forward to meeting you and addressing all of your dental needs.
Dr. Neighbors is a native Virginian. He received his undergraduate degree in science from Wake Forest University and then attended the Medical College of Virginia, Virginia Commonwealth University where he received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree. Dr. Neighbors did a two year Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). He later taught full time at the UCSF dental school, teaching undergraduate and graduate dental students. Dr. Neighbors moved back to Richmond in 1997 and has been practicing in Midlothian since. He enjoys practicing the full scope of cosmetic and family dentistry.
He has served the community through the Mission of Mercy project and Donated Dental Services. Dr. Neighbors has also travelled to the impoverished nation Sierra Leone, West Africa with Helping Children Worldwide to provide dental care. Dr. Neighbors is a member of the American Dental Association, the Virginia Dental Association and the Richmond Dental Society. His wife, Dr. Joy Moretti, is a practicing periodontist in the office. They have two college aged sons, Ryan and Josh.
Dr. Joy Moretti grew up in a suburb of Philadelphia PA. She graduated from the Medical College of Virginia School of Dentistry in 1991. Upon graduation Dr. Moretti was awarded the Pierre Fauchard Academy Award and the American Academy of Periodontology Student Award. She attended a two year residency and earned a certificate in Advanced Education of general dentistry from the University of California San Francisco. She then attended her second residency at the Medical College of Virginia School of Dentistry to earn a certificate in Periodontics. Dr. Moretti continues her dental education by attending multiple continuing education courses throughout the year. She has been voted one of the Top Periodontists in both Richmond Magazine and Virginia Living Magazine.
Dr. Moretti specializes in comprehensive periodontal care which includes the treatment of periodontitis (gum disease), gum grafting, bone regeneration procedures around both teeth and implants, implant dentistry and cosmetic soft tissue procedures. She is a member of the Richmond Dental Society, the Virginia Dental Society, the American Dental Society, the American Academy of Periodontology, the Southern Academy of Periodontology, Richmond Womens Dental Society and the Virginia Society of Periodontists, of which she was a past president. She previously held teaching positions at the University of California San Francisco and the Medical College of Virginia. Presently Dr. Moretti lectures to local dentists and civic groups on current topics of periodontology.
In her free time, Dr. Moretti enjoys hiking, running, traveling and spending time with her husband and two sons. She is truly grateful for the opportunity to work with wonderful patients, and a hardworking office team.

The best dentist in the world! I cannot say enough wonderful things about Dr. Herod! He is, by far, the best dentist I've ever had. I love the way he runs his practice and he is so kind and caring. I was having an issue with my tooth and they fit me in as a new patient the very next day, after he personally called me at 5pm the day before to see what my issue was. I waited less than 2 minutes for my appointment and he spent almost an hour with me, discussing my options. This man is an absolute angel and I'm so glad he was recommended to me.

I met with Dr. Herod for a routine exam and cleaning and had a wonderful experience. I was interested in a more holistic approach and he was able to make great recommendations and have a very detailed discussion about dental care, prevention, and maintenance. Very satisfied with the protective measures his office has implemented and I felt completely safe. Overall an amazing visit with him and his assistant and I would highly recommend Dr. Herod.

I have gone to Drs. Neighbors and Moretti since they returned to Virginia in 1997. I have nothing but positive experiences at their practice, this from a person who had dreaded going to the dentist up to that time. Not only are the doctors top-notch, but the dental and office staff are incredible as well. I feel like an old friend every time I enter the office. I have recommended numerous friends and family to go visit Rob and Joy, and I can truthfully say all of them have felt as positive about their experiences as I have. I've been a patient of Dr. Neighbors since he joined the practice roughly 20 years ago. I have truly enjoyed his guidance and the dental experience about as much as anyone can considering it's like having a tooth pulled. I find that he and his team meet me where I am on my health with practical guidance versus forcing uncomfortable and unnecessary treatments upon me. Additionally, he now sees both my teenage sons who are pleased with his approach, guidance and friendly manner. Lastly, my wife's parents also see him and rave about their experience and they've had a lifetime of comparisons to make. Much love in our family for this guy.

Our whole family have been patients of Dr Herod for the last 5 years. He is amazing. Our two sons who are 11 & 14 really like him & enjoy going to the dentist. Dr Herod is very knowledgeable about what is the best option for your teeth to keep them healthy. I highly recommend Dr Herod & his practice for your dentistry needs.

I've been a patient for almost 10 years now and I'll never go anywhere else. I've always struggled with my teeth and other dental offices never really seemed to care or offer me helpful advice, they just wanted to take my money. Dr. Herod has always been honest with me and offered me solid advice. The front desk staff and hygienists are always super friendly and make me feel comfortable. I was always a person who had anxiety about going to the dentist and was waiting to hear what I did wrong this time. However, since I've been a patient with Dr. Herod, I've never felt that way. They make me feel important and like they actually care about me.

I've been coming to this practice since I was a kid (I'm 40 now). It was a great practice when Dr. Williams was there, and they made a great choice to have Dr. Herod join when Dr. Williams retired. Everyone is so friendly, accommodating and pleasant. Last year I had a problem with a faulty bite guard and they replaced it for free, no questions asked. So few places practice old school family medicine/dentistry anymore, so this place is especially refreshing. I definitely recommend anyone looking for a new dentist or if they have children who need a family practitioner.

I have been coming here since I was little and the staff are always friendly and efficient. Dr. Herod and Dr. Neighbors are both great Dentists who take the time to listen to the patient. Claudine is the only hygienist that my family schedules with. She is very gentle and she provides a lot of good information about dental products.
