Joel I. Nathanson, DMD, MAGD, graduated from Columbia University and received his Doctorate in Dental Medicine from the University of Pennsylvania. After serving a tour of duty as an officer in the U.S. Army Dental Corps at Ft. Stewart, Georgia, Dr. Nathanson began practicing comprehensive dental care in the Baltimore area in 1985.
A respected professional in his field, Dr. Nathanson aims to provide the best possible dental experience for his patients. His entire career has been a study in pursuing the highest and most advanced dental techniques and technologies for the benefit of his patients.
Dr. Nathanson is the first dentist in Maryland to receive postdoctoral training at the prestigious Lee Institute for Bioesthetic Dentistry in San Francisco. He was also the first general dentist in Baltimore County to institute WaterLase No Shot, No Drill dental care in his practice.
In 2007, Dr. Nathanson received the Mastership Award from the Academy of General Dentistry, an international organization composed of more than 35,000 dentists dedicated to improving patient care through continuing education. Less than one percent of all practicing dentists ever achieve mastership in the academy. He has undergone more than 1,500 hours of continuing education and still attends courses on a regular basis.
Outside of dentistry, Dr. Nathansons interests include music and theater. A classically trained singer, he has sung the National Anthem at Camden Yards. He has also acted and sung professionally. As a member of the Baltimore Choral Arts Society, Dr. Nathanson has performed with jazz legend Dave Brubeck as well as with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra at Meyerhoff Symphony Hall. He has sung leading roles with the Municipal Opera Company of Baltimore and Oregon Ridge Dinner Theatre, and performed as a featured soloist at Chizuk Amuno Congregation and in the Bach Concert Series at First English Lutheran Church.

Dr. Nathanson and our team are the most supportive, wonderful people, and we are all devoted to helping patients change their lives! I work closely with Dr. Nathanson and patients to achieve great oral health, by assisting in various procedures. I also work in our in-house lab, to create custom appliances for our orthodontic patients. I enjoy working with my hands and with people.
I started in dentistry back in 2009 as a dental assistant. I built such a strong passion for dentistry that I decided to continue my education and graduated from CCBC in 2016 as a Registered Dental Hygienist. I am passionate about providing great care and delivering proper education based on each patients individual needs.
Its a joy to get to know our patients on a personal level and build a relationship with each one. The more I know a person, the better I can help them achieve their healthiest smile! Everyone on our Team believes in gentle care and listening to a patients concerns. I make sure that our patients and the community hear about the exciting options we offer for dental care and the terrific experience they will have in our office. Nathanson Dental is a wonderful, unique health care practice, and I want everyone to know it!

When Im not here at my second home, Im surrounded by the people I love mostmy daughter Kayleigh, nieces, nephews and siblingsdoing what I love most: cooking, hosting a game night or singing my heart out at karaoke. Other than eating hot steamy crabs all year or trying new restaurants with friends, I really enjoy the peace of staying home. Whatever it is Im involved in, you can always be sure that Ill bring the vibe!
Ive always enjoyed helping people. Being a Dental Assistant for 35 years has been a great way to do that. I love helping patients achieve the dental health and smile they have always wanted. My time outside the office is spent with my husband, our puppy Holly, family and friends. I enjoy cooking, time at Deep Creek Lake and serving the community and my church.

Nathanson Dental offers a very caring, comfortable and competent experience. Qualified dental professionals dedicated to providing great service to their patients. They take the time to get to know their patients. An added plus is that they offer a dental policy for those without insurance.

Just moving here from western Pennsylvania I was in need of a dentist. It was through the Boy Scouts of America Annual Strawberry Festival's silent auction that brought us together. It was on my first visit that I was provided a tour of the facility where I met a few of the energetic staff just starting their morning. I was then greeted by Yvonne the hygenist-nurse. I felt most comfortable in her hands. Due to the COVID hibernation she had a longer and harder cleaning to preform on me. She explained each task she was going to perform before she started to undertake it. She also did interesting patient education as we went along. Then I was introduced to Dr. Nathanson who was very kind and gentle. After discussing my past dental hx he went to work. I found him to be very patient oriented. He fully explained my exam result and presented my options for correction of my dental needs. Well my "stress free" first visit is almost over. My final stop at the check out desk pulled everything together. Such nice people take care of you and your dental needs. I am very happy with my first appointment at Dr. Nathan son's.

Great experience even though I came there with a toothache! Dr Nathanson is awesome and he really listens and cares about his patients. Sarah also rocks and does a fabulous job with cleaning and taking care of you. Love this place and highly recommend them!!!!

Don't go here. Was told my insurance would cover the costs, it didn't. I'm also still getting surprise bills from here 6 months since my last visit, I feel so cheated.

Excellent service, as always. Clean office with friendly staff that quickly and effectively checked me in, cleaned my teeth and got me on to the rest of my day in the shortest amount of time possible. Highly recommend their office!

First of all, how do you allow someone most likely related to kick off your reviews? Shady. Second, I was told my daughter had six cavities and I had to pay $400 each for them. I decided to get a second opinion and was told she barely had one that would be $15. Like most reviews I was assured my insurance was covered and it wasn't. I've been contacted repeatedly for bills I've paid with documentation and they never sent my records to my new dentist. Every time I go in the staff is arguing with a patient over their bill. They'd rather be marketers and salespeople, not actual dentists.

I just recently changed to this Dental office as my other provider has retired and was pleasantly surprised by Melissa, Shaye, Dr. McClennan and Dr. Nathanson's genuinely pleasant office and bedside manor that has allowed me to return (3) times in the past couple of months to have dental work done that should've been done years ago. The office is upscale and VERY comfortable from the front lobby to the chair. These folks know their craft and I'm very pleased with the work AND finally something I've never had in 55 yrs of going to the Dentist...Dr. McClennan calls each evening after a procedure to make sure you're still fine...WHAT!? They're great and thanks one and all. My Chompers are now ready for Thanksgiving!

I set it up my apt. a month in advance and called specifically to ask if they took my insurance. They said yes when I read off all the info on my card. I filled out dozens of pages of paperwork, many trying to sell botox and teeth whitening, about a week in advance and was called and texted several times to remind me to fill it out, but when I called back they'd check and say oh yes, sorry, it is filled out. The night before my appointment they called at nine at night and woke my kid up, just to see for the second time that day if I had any questions, which I had already said earlier I did not. An hour before the apt which I had taken off work for and hired a babysitter they called to say they didn't take my insurance. They could have figured that out weeks ago and even the day before would have helped. The person who called was rude and defensive. Have never had an experience like this before.

Dr McLennan and Sabrina took excellent care of me during my filling procedure today! I didn't feel a thing. They put me at ease and it was over before I knew it. The entire staff is so friendly at every visit. Thank you!

I was really pleased with the way the staff greeted me. How clean and organized the office is. The treatments was fast and painless. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. 10/22/21 Nathanson Dental always a pleasure, friendly and fun.The shaff is like family they always remember my name.
