Dr. Boynton was raised in Bedford, New York, and completed most of his dental and surgical training in Connecticut. After many long winters, he decided to settle in beautiful Sonoma, CA, where his wifes family resides. Dr. Boynton enjoys being a part of this close-knit community and enjoys seeing his patients around town. He believes in treating every patient like family and takes extra time to get to know his patients on a personal level. He has a true passion for helping others and a skill for making his patients feel welcome, secure, and at ease, and prides himself on being an approachable surgeon by listening to his patients concerns and addressing their needs.
Dr. Boynton has written multiple scientific articles and has contributed to several book chapters. He stays current on the latest trends in dentistry and far exceeds the yearly minimum continuing education requirements to maintain his dental licensure. He has a particular interest in the administration of anesthesia, dental implants, bone grafting, dentoalveolar surgery, full-arch fixed reconstruction, and treatment of wisdom teeth. He has traveled to both Haiti and Paraguay to perform these types of surgery on the underserved and looks forward to planning a trip in the near future.
Dr. Boynton is board-certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (ABOMS). He is a fellow of both the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS) and the California Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (CALAOMS). He maintains hospital privileges at Sonoma Valley Hospital. Dr. Boynton has completed the process of being Stemodontics-certified and proudly offers stem cell banking to you and your family.
From Sonoma, California, Dr. Alexander McMahon discovered his appreciation for oral surgery through his own wisdom teeth removal experience at Napa Sonoma Oral Surgery & Dental Implants. As he recovered, he recognized the breadth of the oral surgery profession and the impact it has on the community. Fueled by a passion for science, service, and the patient experience, Dr. McMahon became inspired to serve others through oral surgery excellence.
Throughout college, Dr. McMahon stayed in close contact with Dr. John Pappas and Dr. Jeff Politz, two previous doctors at this practice who provided valuable mentorship. After meeting with Dr. Boynton in 2019, Dr. McMahon knew that this practice aligned with his values. After training in Los Angeles for 10 years, he is eager to return to his hometown and provide exceptional care to members of his community.
Dr. McMahon feels privileged to care for his patients. As a dual-degree surgeon, he revels in the ability to combine science, healthcare, and technology to ease the burden of oral pain and disease. When working with nervous patients, Dr. McMahon redirects the nervousness toward the goal of treatment. Through humor and compassion, he ensures that every patient feels confident in his care.
Dr. McMahon earned his Bachelors of Science (BS) in Neurobiology, Physiology, and Behavior from the University of California, Davis. He earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from the UCLA School of Dentistry, and his Medical Degree (MD) from the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA.
Following his college education, Dr. McMahon completed his oral and maxillofacial residency and general surgery internship from the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center. During this time, he gained hands-on experience managing both complex and common surgery ailments and was a part of various surgical teams for cardiothoracic surgery, neurosurgery, transplant surgery, and general surgery. He engaged in hands-on simulations, took part in cadaver labs and case conferences, and refined his surgical techniques to further improve the lives of patients.
Outside of the office, Dr. McMahon is a passionate supporter of professional English soccer and tries to watch every Chelsea FC game. He is a proud student of DIY YouTube University, which has guided him through many home improvement projects. You can find him and his dog Charlie, a rescued Siberian Husky, staying active on hikes throughout the Sonoma and Napa Valleys.
