Dr. Boynton was raised in Bedford, New York, and completed most of his dental and surgical training in Connecticut. After many long winters, he decided to settle in beautiful Sonoma, CA, where his wifes family resides. Dr. Boynton enjoys being a part of this close-knit community and enjoys seeing his patients around town. He believes in treating every patient like family and takes extra time to get to know his patients on a personal level. He has a true passion for helping others and a skill for making his patients feel welcome, secure, and at ease, and prides himself on being an approachable surgeon by listening to his patients concerns and addressing their needs.
Dr. Boynton has written multiple scientific articles and has contributed to several book chapters. He stays current on the latest trends in dentistry and far exceeds the yearly minimum continuing education requirements to maintain his dental licensure. He has a particular interest in the administration of anesthesia, dental implants, bone grafting, dentoalveolar surgery, full-arch fixed reconstruction, and treatment of wisdom teeth. He has traveled to both Haiti and Paraguay to perform these types of surgery on the underserved and looks forward to planning a trip in the near future.
Dr. Boynton is board-certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (ABOMS). He is a fellow of both the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS) and the California Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (CALAOMS). He maintains hospital privileges at Sonoma Valley Hospital. Dr. Boynton has completed the process of being Stemodontics-certified and proudly offers stem cell banking to you and your family.
From Sonoma, California, Dr. Alexander McMahon discovered his appreciation for oral surgery through his own wisdom teeth removal experience at Napa Sonoma Oral Surgery & Dental Implants. As he recovered, he recognized the breadth of the oral surgery profession and the impact it has on the community. Fueled by a passion for science, service, and the patient experience, Dr. McMahon became inspired to serve others through oral surgery excellence.
Throughout college, Dr. McMahon stayed in close contact with Dr. John Pappas and Dr. Jeff Politz, two previous doctors at this practice who provided valuable mentorship. After meeting with Dr. Boynton in 2019, Dr. McMahon knew that this practice aligned with his values. After training in Los Angeles for 10 years, he is eager to return to his hometown and provide exceptional care to members of his community.
Dr. McMahon feels privileged to care for his patients. As a dual-degree surgeon, he revels in the ability to combine science, healthcare, and technology to ease the burden of oral pain and disease. When working with nervous patients, Dr. McMahon redirects the nervousness toward the goal of treatment. Through humor and compassion, he ensures that every patient feels confident in his care.
Dr. McMahon earned his Bachelors of Science (BS) in Neurobiology, Physiology, and Behavior from the University of California, Davis. He earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from the UCLA School of Dentistry, and his Medical Degree (MD) from the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA.
Following his college education, Dr. McMahon completed his oral and maxillofacial residency and general surgery internship from the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center. During this time, he gained hands-on experience managing both complex and common surgery ailments and was a part of various surgical teams for cardiothoracic surgery, neurosurgery, transplant surgery, and general surgery. He engaged in hands-on simulations, took part in cadaver labs and case conferences, and refined his surgical techniques to further improve the lives of patients.
Outside of the office, Dr. McMahon is a passionate supporter of professional English soccer and tries to watch every Chelsea FC game. He is a proud student of DIY YouTube University, which has guided him through many home improvement projects. You can find him and his dog Charlie, a rescued Siberian Husky, staying active on hikes throughout the Sonoma and Napa Valleys.

I was referred to Dr. Boynton for removal of a troublesome wisdom tooth. I have a lot of anxiety about any dental work, as I have had some bad experiences in the past. Dr. Boynton listened carefully to my concerns and took steps to lessen my anxiety before and during the procedure. The experience was as good as it could have been, considering I had to have a large tooth pulled. They provided excellent discharge instructions, and called later in the day after the procedure to make sure I was doing ok. My recovery has been without complications as of 10 days post procedure. The office staff were attentive, professional and efficient. The facility itself was very clean and they have everyone wear a mask in the waiting area. All staff were masked also, which lessened my concerns regarding Covid infection.

I make a special trip from Orinda, CA to see Dr. McMahon and his lovely staff at Napa Sonoma Oral Surgery. The office is spacious, clean, and welcoming. Even my kids feel at ease here. It's well worth the trip!

My experience with the Sonoma Oral Surgery team was outstanding! Great teamwork from the front office, to the surgery assistants, to the surgeon, Dr. McMahon. All my questions were answered before and after the dental implant procedure, which exceeded my expectations. Dr. McMahon called me, in the afternoon, following surgery, to see how I was doing and if I had any questions. I was out walking and thanked him for his exceptional work. I was worried about getting my broken off upper wisdom tooth removed. Pretty much figured it would be too painful so I just ignored it for a long time hoping it would just go away. Finally made the phone call and got it removed. I felt absolutely nothing! Couldn't believe I waited that long. This oral surgeon is a true professional! I would highly recommend him to everyone.

Dr. Boyton was very personable and thoroughly explained my procedure. I needed to be seen in the office a few days after my extraction and the staff worked me in to see Dr McMahon. Dr McMahon was very nice, too. The staff are professional and caring.

My experience was completely positive. After meeting Dr Boynton and his staff, I felt I was in the right place for the implant procedures ahead. That proved to be true. Dr. Boynton did an excellent job of letting me know what he was going to do and why. For first time I tried nitrous oxide which was very relaxing.and helpful. I will use it again as the situation warrants. Both procedures went smoothly. Dr. Boynton is sincerely caring and called to check on me hours after my second procedure. Home care information was given orally and written and was easy to follow. I highly recommend Napa Sonoma Oral SurgeryCenter.

I found everyone at Napa Sonoma Oral Surgery to be extremely professional. However I was most impressed by the genuine care they displayed for me as a patient. Dr McMahon provides a level of care that is excellent. The nurses and assistants are professional and caring, along with making sure all of your questions are answered.
