Ive also helped many of my patients overcome their fear of dental work, and I look at it as a fulfilling challenge to convert a person who is afraid into someone who enjoys coming to see me for routine care.
I grew up in a family of physicians, so helping people is part of who I am. As an undergraduate, I made the decision to become a dentist during a mission trip to help disadvantaged communities in Costa Rica and Nicaragua.
After completing my undergraduate degree at University of Florida, I completed my dental training at Harvard School of Dental Medicine. I then focused on helping medically compromised patients, and providing advanced restorative dentistry during my post-graduate residency at Nova Southeastern University.
Dentistry is a quickly evolving science, so I am dedicated to the pursuit of continuing education throughout the year to keep up with the latest practices and technology. Im a member of the American, Florida, and West Coast Dental Associations, the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, the Manatee Dental Society, the International Dental Implant Association, Academy of General Dentistry, and the Frank Spear Study Club.
Dr. Nikola Skakavac immigrated to the United States from Bosnia and Hercegovina. He attended the University of South Florida where he obtained both his Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences and Master of Science in Medical Sciences. He then earned his Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) from the University of Florida where he was recognized and awarded for his professional and clinical excellence.
Since leaving school, he has taken a range of continuing education courses, studying advanced prosthodontics, Invisalign, and oral surgery. He has completed the entire curriculum of Implant Pathway, an implantology continuum that focuses entirely on the surgical placement of dental implants. By taking continuing education courses, Dr. Skakavac believes that he will be able to provide the best care to his patients by staying up to date on current procedures and advancements.
Dr. Skakavac enjoys all aspects of dentistry and looks forward to serving the dental needs of the Brandenton community. He emphasizes patient comfort and education in his everyday practices and is dedicated to providing individualized care to each of his patients. Outside of dentistry, he loves traveling and exploring different places and cultures, hiking national parks, weightlifting, and spending time with his family and friends (dog Teddy included).
