Dr. Denise Murmann graduated with her DDS from the University of Illinois Chicago College of Dentistry in 1992, 50 years after her maternal grandfather did. Before establishing Murmann Dental Health in Naperville, she practiced in Chicago and River Forest.
Dr. Murmann is also a forensic dentist. She has been deployed twice once after 9/11 as part of the World Trade Center Dental Identification Team, and a second time after Hurricane Katrina. Her professional affiliations and memberships include:
Dr. Murmanns grandfather, Dr. Grundset, started at the University of Illinois of Naperville Dental School in 1938. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in December 1941, right after Pearl Harbor was bombed. This allowed him to stay in dental school until the spring of 1942, when he graduated.
A First Lieutenant who rose in rank to Captain, Dr. Grundset went overseas in February 1944 and landed in Oran, North Africa. He was part of the 27th Evacuation Hospital that went through North Africa, Italy, France, and Germany. They were the first medical unit in Casino, Italy, after the United States bombed Monistary. Dr. Grundset earned seven battle stars during his deployment and came home in December 1945, a few days before Christmas.
When he returned stateside, he opened a dental office in Brookfield, IL. He also taught at the University of Illinois School of Dentistry. In 1959, he and his family moved to Florida, and he opened a dental office in Largo. He retired at 81 and passed away in 2002, and we still miss him today.
In May 1942, the Colleges of Dentistry, Pharmacy, and Medicine at the University of Illinois formed an evacuation hospital that served in multiple combat areas throughout Europe and North Africa. The UIC Library Online Exhibit on the 27th Evacuation Hospital can be found below:
Barbara has a rich history in dentistry. Her father, uncle, and brother were all dentists. She worked in their office, both as an assistant and at the front desk. After getting married and having children, she went back to work in the health care field, this time at Hinsdale Hospital. She started as a maternity ward secretary and then was asked to be the secretary for the director of Maternal Child Nursing. After that, she became the secretary to one of the vice presidents of the hospital, then to the president. Ultimately, she became assistant to the president of the corporate headquarters of Adventist Midwest Health (AMH). Now she has come full circle, moving back into the field of dentistry.
Maricruz has worked in the dental field for more than 30 years. She has a degree in dentistry from Coahuila University in Mexico, where she graduated in 1983. She worked in a dental office in Mexico until she moved to the U.S. in 1989. She has worked as a dental assistant and a dental office manager since then. She joined Murmann Dental Health in 2014, and we are blessed to have her expertise in so many ways. She enjoys working with patients, taking care of their needs, and making them feel comfortable.
Micheles background is medical. She worked for a health insurance company for over 30 years in positions including prior authorization, case management, and training. She started at Murmann Dental Health in 2019. Since joining the team, she has learned a lot of dental information and continues learning every day. Michele enjoys spending time at home with her two cats, being with her family, and reading.
Our experiences shape who we are and ultimately help us decide our path. Dianas decision to pursue dentistry was based on a series of important events from her childhood, starting when her mom took her to a very nice pediatric dentist. The skill, care, and kindness shown by the doctor inspired her goal of becoming a similarly skilled and caring professional. When Diana got her green card through the Visa lottery, it was a happy day. She came into the United States and continued what she started in Romania. Working as a dental assistant in the Chicago area, she was able to meet many talented alumni of Harper College. During that time, she found out about a different profession: dental hygiene. Although she had learned a lot from her colleagues, she chose to do dental hygiene instead of dentistry. She considers dental hygiene a versatile career that gives her professional satisfaction and time for family. The knowledge she accumulated in Romania greatly reinforced her American experience. Diana and her husband, a software engineer, have a son and a daughter. They love to travel and have seen a small part of United States since coming here. She also likes to take long walks and read fashion magazines.
Leneda Murmann began her career as an early childhood teacher. She enjoyed teaching for 30 years and then was given the opportunity to change her career and join Murmann Dental Health. She is enjoying learning about the dental field and learning new information every day. Leneda enjoys spending time with her husband, son, and two dogs. She reads when she gets the chance. Leneda is a very brave woman, as she married Richard (Michele and Denises brother). Her son, Will, is also planning on working here one day.
