Digital radiography (digital x-ray) is the latest technology used to take dental x-rays. Electronic sensors are used to capture digital images instead of an x-ray film, which makes them instantly viewable to your dentist for a quick diagnosis. With digital x-rays, patients benefit from a reduction of radiation exposure by 80-90% compared to the already low exposure of traditional imaging methods.

This cutting-edge imaging system significantly benefits both dentist and patient. Cone beam 3-D provides fast and accurate imaging of all angles of a patients face, teeth and jaw. This grants Dr. Matthew Howell improved predictability and confidence in preparing for procedures such as extractions and placing implants. The NOMAD portable imaging system has revolutionized the way dental x-rays are taken. Patients are allowed to remain in the dental chair as the low-radiation x-ray unit comes to them. This makes it ideal for patients with special needs and for children.

Our office proudly utilizes the most advanced surgical planning software for dental implants. This precision technology allows dental implants to be placed efficiently and accurately, which means a less invasive procedure and better outcome for the patient.

Not only are electronic (or digital) dental records economical, but they provide high convenience for patients. Digital records are easily accessed for patient and dentist review, and they can be readily transferred to a specialist or physician when needed.

The Isodry system is a remarkable alternative to past forms of dental isolation, including rubber dams or cotton rolls. This tool keeps the patients mouth comfortably open while also controlling suction and oral humidity and improving visibility for Dr. Matthew Howell. Isodry protects the patient from contamination and foreign body aspiration and shields the tongue and cheek from injury from dental instruments.

By providing the most updated patient education software available, we are able to keep our patients well-informed and less anxious about their dental care. Caesey is a patient education program that features live-action videos, 3-D animations and countless clinical presentations to effectively explain dental treatments to patients of all ages.

I graduated with honors from Winthrop University with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry expecting to join the medical field. It wasnt until I began shadowing local dental professionals that my passion for dentistry was sparked. I realized dentistry would allow me to work with my hands, work within a team environment, and interact with all different types of people. Later, I received my Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the prestigious University of North Carolina School of Dentistry. Believing that continuing education is essential to excellent patient care, I continually seek out the best and most current continuing education courses ensuring you are always given the most current treatment options available.

Along with my extensive dental training, I have a passion for photography which has given me a unique eye for approaching smile design and dental esthetics. Being a CEREC doctor lets me digitally design and create beautiful same day ceramic/porcelain dental restorations using the most advanced CAD/CAM technology. While I understand most people do not like coming to the dentist I take pride in providing gentle, consistent care with caring attention to every patient.

When Im not learning and mastering the practice of dentistry, I enjoy spending time outdoors running, camping, hiking, and capturing beautiful sunrises and sunsets with my friends, family, and camera.

Cristina was born in Toluca, Mexico. She attended the Autonomous University of Mexico where she graduated with a Degree of Dental Surgery. Years later, she moved to Charlotte, North Carolina and later attended Piedmont Community College where she received her Dental Hygienist License. She enjoys providing services and education to her community and is passionate about oral health. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family, friends and also loves to travel.

I have been a part of Mundo Dentistry since the beginning and I am so proud of all that we have been able to do for our patients. Dr. Howells passion and empathy towards dentistry and our patients really sets the tone for how our practice operates. I really enjoy meeting new people and getting to know each patient on a personal level. I work extremely hard to maximize your insurance and create a plan that works for you and your family.
