Patients can enjoy a more comfortable and functional bite after losing teeth with dental implants. Implants act as artificial roots to anchor permanent teeth replacements. If you are missing one or more teeth or need to have one extracted, dental replacements can be a great option to restore your smile.

Dental implants act as artificial tooth roots to support new replacement teeth. During the procedure, an incision is made in the patients gum to expose the bone where the implant will be placed. We will then insert the implant and suture the gum around the implant post. In some cases, a temporary denture is used instead of replacement teeth.

Following the surgery, the bone needs to heal around the dental implant. This process can take several weeks or months. Once it is sufficiently strong, a dentist can fit the permanent replacement teeth. According to the Mayo Clinic, some extra steps may be necessary. For patients with weak jawbones, a bone graft may be needed to ensure sufficient strength. After the bone has healed, an abutment connects a crown or dentures to the dental implant.

Caring for dental implants is very similar to caring for natural teeth, especially if the replacement teeth are permanent. Brushing, flossing, and rinsing with mouthwash is necessary for maintaining proper oral hygiene with implants. Getting regular checkups and teeth cleanings at the dentist are important for taking care of replacement teeth.

Dental implants may require extra cleaning to keep them in optimal condition. Removable, implant-supported dentures should be taken out at night and soaked in a denture solution. Patients can also use an oral irrigator to help clean below and around the dental implants.

Following the procedure, it is common to have swelling and discomfort around the implantation site. Some patients may experience minor bleeding and bruising of the skin and gums in the treatment area. These side effects can be managed with pain medication and antibiotics if necessary. Patients can expect such side effects to subside after a few days.

After receiving dental implants, it is best to stick to eating soft foods while the bone heals. Most dental implant procedures use dissolvable stitches, so patients will not have to come back to get them removed. These stitches will usually fall out within seven to 10 days. Following the aftercare instructions and advice will help the healing process.

  • Comfortable: Dental implants act as tooth roots and stay firmly in place. This firm foundation makes them more comfortable than dentures and other replacement tooth options. Many patients report that implants feel similar to their natural teeth.
  • Functional: The stability of implants makes them effective for eating, talking, and cleaning. They function similarly to the teeth they are replacing. Less permanent options may interfere more with daily life.
  • Permanent: Dental implants are one of the most permanent tooth replacement options. They can last a lifetime with good care. Additionally, fixed replacement teeth on implants do not need to be removed every day for cleaning.
  • Natural-looking: Implant-supported replacement teeth look like natural teeth. The visible part of the dental implant is a cosmetic crown made from a composite material that is color-matched to the patients tooth enamel. It can be hard to tell the difference. Many patients enjoy dental implants aesthetic appeal, as others cannot tell the difference between the replacement and natural teeth.
  • A. According to the Cleveland Clinic, dental implants have a success rate of up to 97%. Furthermore, they can last a lifetime with proper care. Dental implants are one of the most permanent solutions for missing teeth.

Overall very good experience! Staff was really welcoming and friendly. I got my cleaning and some treatments done. I didn't have any insurance and in that situation found the prices really reasonable and low compared to others. The doctor explained well in detail and very professional overall environment. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!

I do not like this dentist. His chair-side manner leaves much to be desired. This is my experience: I was called back into the office bc someone broke the mold that was to be used for my denture's upper teeth. The very same day that I went in to have the mold redone, my husband died later that day at home. If I had not had to go back to redo my mold, I would of been home and my husband's death may have very well been preventable. That's #1 However, once the upper dentures were completed and ready to be fit, due to still being in mourning over my husband's death, I had to reschedule a couple of appointments. I told the receptionist why I was rescheduling. During a visit and right in a room full of patients, the Dentist chastised me for missing so many appts! It seems that the receptionist didn't relay the reasons for my cancelations to the dentist! I did not appreciate being spoken to in the manner that the dentist chose to on that day. I haven't been back since. Oh, and btw, the dentures were loose-fitting and the 2 front teeth were off-center. Needless to say, Muhlenberg Dentistry left a "bad taste in my mouth."

I went to Muhlenberg Dental initially for the first time to get a cleaning. They told me I could not get a cleaning without having a root canal and crown put on my one tooth. Which I was very surprised to hear because I was having no pain didn't even know I had an issue. $1700 dollars and a root canal and crown later, I finally got my cleaning appointment made!! Muhlenbergg dental called me the day before my appointment and told me they no longer take my insurance which is UPMC anymore. I was fooled and this place is horrible. I would never recommend to anyone. THEY ARE NOT TO BE TRUSTED!

I've had a filling, root canal and crown done here and I really would recommend them. Dr. Naik did my filling on the spot the first time I saw him and it was almost painless. His daughter Sonal did my root canal and I was seriously amazed at how well it went. I legitimately barely felt a thing and she did fantastic work. Same with my crown. I'm more than happy with the work and even happier to not be in pain anymore thanks to everyone here.

I went in June because I was in ALOT of pain. I was told I needed all my teeth extracted to get dentures. Got them all removed the next weekend. Waited 2 months to heal and made an appointment to start the denture process. Dr. told me he had to submit paperwork to start the process and told me to call back in a week. I waited and called back...they said ummmm give me your name and number and we will call you back. I did. Waited another week and called back and they said the same thing. Here we are in November and I'm still calling weekly and still being told the same stuff. I called today with mother as a witness and they told me to call my insurance because insurance is denying it saying I already had it done 3 times!. I called and the insurance said they needed more info and X-rays from the dentist and the dentist never submitted it. So I called Dr back and told the woman who answered everything the insurance said. The woman who answered basically yelled at me that no such forms exist. Okay well I'll be going to another dentist. I've been charged multiple times for services NEVER rendered. Thanks for nothing.
