Julia Tyson Snyder is a native North Carolinian, having been born and raised in Monroe, NC. She graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1997 with a Bachelor of Science degree with a Biology major and a Chemistry minor and then she went on to graduate from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Dentistry, receiving her Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) degree with Honors and Distinction. She practiced as a general dentist in Raleigh and Greensboro, NC, for several years, but is proud to now call Boone her home. Dr. Snyder married local Blaine 'BJ' Snyder in July 2016 and recently changed her name from Dr. Tyson to Dr. Snyder.

Dr. Snyder spends much of her free time contributing dental services through community, state, national, and international organizations. She has traveled to Nepal, India, Bolivia, Guatemala, and the Amazon Jungle to provide free dental services and oral hygiene education to impoverished and indigent populations. Her family includes a rescue dog named Molly and a farm of Paso Fino horses. She is conversant in Spanish and enjoys horseback riding in the beautiful NC, TN, and VA mountains.

Dr. Snyder is currently involved with and serving on several professional boards and committees. She has been a voting member of the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry Admissions Committee for over seventeen years. Dr. Snyder serves as a past member of the Board of Directors of WYN (the Western Youth Network) and is a Tripartite Member in Good Standing of the American Dental Association, the North Carolina Dental Society, and the NC First District Dental Society. She is also a member of the UNC General Alumni Association, the UNC Dental Alumni Association, Alpha Phi Omega volunteer service fraternity Alumni Association, and Delta Sigma Delta dental fraternity Alumni Association. She is also a member and past president of the Tar Heel Dental Society, a past member of the Tucker Gold Academy, and past First District Representative to the NC Dental Society Committee on the New Dentist. Dr. Snyder is certified in Invisalign, forensic dentistry, conscious sedation dentistry, and CPR, and she is also licensed as a dentist in Tennessee in addition to North Carolina.

Part of our commitment to the Boone community is through support of local and regional organizations and charities. We have contributed time and/or donations to the following organizations: Western Youth Network (WYN), Alpha International Ministries, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, the Girl Scouts, Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, International Miners Mission, AppKIDS, South Mountain Children and Family Services, Horse Helpers of the High Country, Childrens Advocacy Center of the Blue Ridge, Wine to Water, Friends of Watauga County Public Library, the Lions Club, Appalachian State University Foundation, The Empty Bowls Project, Watauga County Afterschool Program, the Boone Service League, Hospitality House, OASIS, Mountain Alliance, Shelter Rock Ministries Dental Clinic, Wilkes County Free Dental Bus, the NC Dental Societys Missions of Mercy clinics, Freedom Farm Ministries, the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life, and the NC Baptist Men Dental Bus.

Dr. Snyder purchased the practice from Dr. Frank T. Roberts. Jr. in November of 2008. We enjoy caring for Dr. Robert's former patients with the same integrity and professionalism they have come to expect, and we welcome new patients as we continue to grow. We offer a wide range of dental services, including preventative care and cleanings, crowns and bridges, implant restoration, fillings, root canals, extractions, partial and full dentures, and a range of cosmetic dentistry options, such as bleaching, bonding, and veneers. Kelly Whiteley, DMD is a dental primary care provider at Mountaineer Dental and Sleep Center in Boone, NC. She grew up in Fayetteville, NC but frequently visited the high country as her grandparents are Wilkes County natives.

Dr. Whiteley earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology and minors in Chemistry and Spanish at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, graduating with Distinction. She earned her Doctor of Dental Medicine with Honors at East Carolina University School of Dental Medicine in Greenville, NC. Dr. Whiteley completed an Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency program through the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, TX. During her residency, she gained advanced training in dental prosthetics, esthetic dentistry, dental implants, and periodontal treatment.

Dr. Whiteley is an active member of the North Carolina Dental Society, the American Dental Association, Cerec Doctors, Spear Education, and the Academy of General Dentistry. She loves participating in continuing education courses to enhance her abilities and stay up-to-date on all of the latest dental techniques and procedures. Outside of the office, she enjoys spending time with her husband, and two pets, Clorox and Tormund. She also enjoys reading, sewing, crafting, painting, traveling, and trying new and diverse foods.

We only take the x-rays that are necessary for proper diagnosis and treatment planning, and we use digital x-rays as a way to significantly reduce the amount of exposure compared to traditional film x-rays. We maintain the same radiation safety and infection control standards as those recommended by the American Dental Association (ADA), the Center for Disease Control (CDC), and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) guidelines.
