Moss & Owen - General dentist in Camden, SC

The profession of dentistry has been a rewarding career for Dr. Moss. She's met and helped many wonderful people, learned interesting things, and hopefully taught her patients well about what she knows best -- oral health. As a dentist, each day presents exciting challenges that need solutions! The dental field has evolved rapidly over her career, but one aspect that has remained constant is the obligation she feels to provide her patients with the highest quality of dental care possible.

In addition, she's logged over 1000 hours of continuing education over the span of her career in areas such as orthodontics, implants, periodontics, endodontics, cosmetic bonding and veneers, fixed prosthodontics, CPR, and first aid.

When she's not working, Dr. Moss enjoys keeping active in her community; she is a volunteer dental provider in the Kershaw County Community Medical Clinic in Camden, an active supporter of the United Way of Kershaw County and the KershawHealth Foundation, and a member of the Camden Garden Club. Her favorite pastime, though, is world traveling. Both she and her son, Dr. Will Owen, are international dentists after having practiced on both continents in the Western Hemisphere, where they provided free dental care for residents of Conocotto, Ecuador in the spring of 2009.

Dr. Owen completed undergraduate studies at Clemson University and the University of South Carolina then he went on to receive his Doctor of Dental Medicine from the Medical University of South Carolina.

Moss & Owen - General dentist in Camden, SC

Dr. Owen is committed to keeping abreast of the latest dental techniques and technology through continuing education. In 2012, he completed a two year comprehensive orthodontics course an is proud to offer this service to his patients. In addition, he has completed over 300 post-graduate hours continuing his education in courses focusing on orthodontics, occlusion and TMJ, implant restorative dentistry, oral surgery, cosmetic bonding and veneers, crown and bridge, endodontics and periodontics, all while maintaining certification in CPR and first aid.

Having grown up in Camden, SC, Dr. Owen realizes the importance of helping the citizens of this community maintain their oral health. Realizing that those who usually live the longest usually do so with most of their natural teeth, he believes very strongly in patient education and the prevention of dental decay and periodontal disease. His treatment goals are very simple; to impart value by using the most conservative methods available, providing the best long-term prognosis, while keeping patinet costs to a minimum. Dr. Owen will not recommend any treatment that he would not recommend to a family member in a similar situation. Furthermore, he will not be satisfied with anything he puts in your mouth that he would not have in his own mouth. He's not going to tell his patients what procedures have to be completed. He's going to give them options, with advantages and disadvantages, and let them decide according to their own healthcare goals. This level of trust requires a two-way relationship between a dentist and his patients to which Dr. Owen is firmly committed.

Dr. Owen is also highly involved in the community as a member of Rotary International. He volunteers with Give Kids a Smile, East Cooper Community Outreach Clinic, and Community Medical Clinic. He's also been involved with dental missions to Quito, Equador, and he's an Eagle Scout and member of the Order of the Arrow through the Boy Scouts of America.

Dr. Larry Owen was born in Muskogee, Oklahoma; he was the son of the late William L. Owen Jr. and Nan Robertson Owen. He was a graduate of Camden High School, Class of 1965, and a graduate of the University of South Carolina, Class of 1969, where he was a member of Chi Psi Fraternity. After college, he joined the US Air Force and served his country as a Fuels Supply Officer stationed in Del Rio, Texas. Dr. Owen attended the Medical University of SC and graduated from the MUSC College of Dental Medicine in 1977. He went on to practice dentistry in Kershaw County for over 30 years.

Dr. Owen loved life and he loved his profession. He loved his family, he loved his friends and he loved being involved with their lives. He met his wife, Dr. Cathy Moss, while in dental school at MUSC in Charleston, and together, they raised three successful children while practicing together in Camden, SC. Dr. Owen never met a stranger, and he was able to make most anyone feel at ease in his chair. He took his job seriously, but he had fun with it too. Dr. Owen was never satisfied with being an average dentist. He perfected his techniques and sought to continue learning dentistry over his entire career. He exemplified the professionalism of his profession.

I have enjoyed practicing dentistry for the past 30 years here in Kershaw County. It seems like I shouldnt have to practice anymore, but with all the advancements in dental care that have recently become available, I must continue to learn and implement this new technology into my technique. I am, therefore, totally committed to continuing my dental education. I enjoy getting to know my patients and helping them solve problems related to their oral health. The goals I set for each of my patients are to be free of oral disease, to speak clearly, to chew food comfortably, and to have a great looking smile! Personally, I strive to provide this service to the best of my ability and experience, all while keeping in mind my patients perceptions of value and affordability. Dentistry has been a rewarding career for me, but when Im not practicing I enjoy playing tennis, golf, and my trumpet.

We will all continue to miss you, your jovial personality and your great smile. You have left us all with so many great memories, well deserved as a testament to the great man you are. You have also left an ideology and a legacy that will perpetuate in your absence. Rest assured, Dr. O, you will never be forgotten! Your family, friends, patients and colleagues love and miss you very much!

WORST dental experience in 15 years, for reasons created by dental office. When we made the appointment via phone call early September 2019, we were told that they accepted United Concordia (active duty military family of six), assuming we were in-network as new patients. When my husband took our 8-year child to the actual appointment for the exam and cleaning, he again confirmed that our insurance was accepted by the staff. It wasn't until 2 weeks later at the restorative appointment (filling) that I was informed by a staff member that we had an approximate $80 balance bc we were out of network to which I was confused. I explained that every communication up until this point, we were verbally led by Moss and Owen staff to believe there would be no cost bc of the insurance coverage (covers cleanings and visits every six months). 30 minutes later at the restorative appointment, I decided to leave and take our 8 year old and 19 month old out of the office until they (staff and dentist) communicated a clear plan proceeding forward with the reasonable expectation from our family as new patients that we would love to be patients, but only if our insurance coverage would be accepted. 2 more weeks later with multiple phone calls and conversations initiated by myself, we have made the solid decision not to waste any more our time with Moss and Owen as we have found a dentist that is in network and accepts United Concordia and FINALLY take care of the cavity of which this process began over a month ago for our 8 year old son. The ridiculous amount of energy that has been wasted and went into this very first induction of Moss and Owen Dentistry was created by the staff, confirmed by staff all because of miscommunication and lack of professionalism. Thank you for your time reading this review from our experience .
