The goal of good dentistry is to educate the patient that oral health is primary health. In other words, dental health is a precursor to total body health. Poor oral hygiene has been demonstrated to cause cardiovascular problems, low birth weight in infants, oral and systemic cancers, and problems with glycemic control in diabetes. Therefore, the goal of our practice is to prevent dental disease by educating our patients in good oral hygiene techniques and to maintain an active recare program to diagnosis and treat problems as they occur.

Excellence in dentistry begins with a careful co-diagnosis and treatment plan to establish the goals we will achieve together. Communication and long-term relationships are important to us. Let us know what is on your mind and ask questions. We will help you realize an investment in yourself pays dividends for a lifetime. We are caring, skilled professionals, dedicated to simplifying what is often a very complicated and confusing area of health care. We want all our patients to be informed and knowledgeable about their dental health care, from treatment plans and services, to insurance coverage.

We firmly believe that each patient is a unique person and we strive to customize treatment to help our patients achieve the highest quality of oral health. We look upon you, the patient, as a person of infinite worth. Through our care and concern, we will reaffirm that worth.

Theres no lack of home remedies for teeth whitening on the internet. However, did you know that many of the popular remedies you see on social media (like activated charcoal) can actually wear away your enamel?

Once you lose enamel, its gone for good, which is why its important to always ask our teeth whitening dentist in Troy, Michigan about safe ways to whiten teeth. Continue reading to learn the 3 myths about natural teeth whitening that can actually harm your smile.

While eating fruit is good for your health, you should never allow acidic fruit juice to sit on your teeth for prolonged periods of time. The acid in lemons and other fruits can wear away the outer layer of your teeth called enamel.

Lemon juice and baking soda do not safely whiten your teeth. Unlike toothpaste, baking soda is abrasive and will wear away your tooth enamel over time. Likewise, lemon juice is too acidic to sit on the surface of your teeth. Youre much better off using fluoridated toothpaste approved by the American Dental Association to strengthen enamel and whiten teeth.

Activated charcoal is a black powder made of peat, olive pits, coconut shells, slowly burned wood, and other natural ingredients. However, its important to remember that natural doesnt always mean healthy.

Theres no scientific evidence proving activated charcoal is safe or effective for teeth whitening. In fact, using abrasive scrubs can actually wear away the protective outer layer of your teeth and reveal the yellow dentin beneath. Once this happens, your teeth will actually look yellower, not whiter. You want to whiten your tooth enamel, not scrub it away.

Your dentist may lean more towards a peroxide, a fluoride, or a potassium nitrate (an active ingredient in Sensodyne) based treatment, but these arent the only options. Hydrogen peroxide is a common ingredient in whitening treatments used for its oxidizing ability. However, peroxide is the main suspect in whitening sensitivity making it an unlikely candidate for sensitive teeth whitening.

Oil pulling is the practice of swishing a teaspoon of edible oil (typically coconut) around your mouth to achieve white teeth. While proponents claim that oil pulling helps remove the bacteria responsible for plaque and tartar, theres currently no evidence to support this theory. While anecdotes can be compelling, they dont replace scientific evidence.

Its important to understand that many factors affect teeth whitening, such as smoking, eating staining foods, and neglecting oral health. While it may appear that oil pulling helps whiten teeth, the difference could be due to something simpler like reducing how much coffee you drink.

You should also see our Troy, MI dentist for a teeth cleaning and oral examination at least every 6 months. Following these recommendations will help remove plaque and tartar from the surface of your teeth, which helps your smile stay white.

Limit coffee, tea, and other staining foods that could dull your smile. You should also avoid using tobacco products to avoid staining your teeth over time. In the end, good oral hygiene habits make the best home remedies for whitening teeth.

Took my 6 week infant there for a lip tie. This place was absolutely phenomenal. I was worried about taking him to a general dentist vs. pediatric but I'm so glad I brought him here. They were so knowledgeable and the procedure itself was so fast. It has made a huge difference.

Dr. Kelly & her team were wonderful, exceptional bedside manners. Very kind & compassionate. Dr.Kelly was super gentle with the baby & took time to explain the procedure, after effects, and helped us set realistic expectations. They went above & beyond to accommodate us for a same day appointment. Highly recommend.

We took our 7 day old infant to Dr. Giera for evaluation and treatment of his lip tie. We were recommended her by a friend who had good results from Dr Giera's one visit after taking her son to 4 other drs and ending up disappointed. Right from the beginning Dr Giera put me, an anxious new mom at ease with her confidence, her patience and her kindness. She explained everything including the lip tie, the surgery to fix it, the after effects etc in detail. She gave us her time and undivided attention. We never felt rushed. We were taught the stretches well and realistic expectations and goals were set for us until the next follow up. Even at the follow up, she answered all our questions and again, gave her undivided attention. I felt so much more calmer and was not at all anxious. Her assistant was also very knowledgeable and had a great bedside manner. 5 stars to this team.

We brought our baby to Dr. Giera for a tongue and lip tie and were very happy with the care we received. I felt like we had her full attention during our visit, she explained everything thoroughly, and she made sure we felt comfortable and confident in our decision. If we ever needed similar care again I wouldn't hesitate to go back.

I went to a standard dental cleaning at Mosaic Dental. The hygienist was very aggressive during the cleaning by hooking my lip and gums. At one point, I felt a strange twinge while the hygienist was scraping at a crown near the gum line, then a feeling of suction surrounding the tooth. The brushing left much to be desired as it was a quick side to side motion across my teeth, then I was done. This was the worst cleaning I have ever experienced. The following day while brushing my teeth my crown broke off. This is the same tooth that I experienced a strange sensation during the cleaning the previous day. I called Mosaic Dental and went in to meet with Dr. Daniel Brystowski regarding my broken tooth. I discussed what happened during my cleaning and that I was not having any problems with my teeth prior to the cleaning therefore, my crown break off the very next day is not a coincidence. He said "there is no way a dental cleaning would cause a crown to break." I disagreed and said then what caused the tooth to break? He said it's likely there is decay and that is what caused it. However, he could not show me on the x-rays where there was any decay. I asked what are the next steps to remedy the problem, now I have a missing tooth in my mouth one day after receiving an aggressive cleaning from Mosaic dental? He again stated "this was in no way caused by us." This is absolutely ridiculous that he was not working to remedy the situation. I have since been to a periodontist and a prosthodontist to have my mouth examined. I must now get a dental implant to repair the problem the hygienist caused. Both doctors separately confirmed there was no decay on my crown and the seal to the crown was severed hence the reason it came out. It was also explained that inexperienced hygienists that are unfamiliar with how to properly clean crowns can scrape at the crown seal thinking it is plaque. My broken crown was without a doubt caused by an employee at Mosaic Dental which they took zero responsibility or helped to remedy. I am without a tooth and have to pay thousands of dollars out of pocket, and go through the painful procedure of getting a dental implant all for their negligence. I made a call to the office to make Dr. Kelly Giera aware of what happened as well however, she would not return a call to me. Beware of going to Mosaic dental, they are unqualified and refuse to properly care for their patients.

Dr. Giera is the definition of holistic care! We drove an over hour for an upper tongue tie with our 5 week old. After some not as helpful appointments with our ped/lactation consultant and one appointment with OT who diagnosed our girl with a slight upper lip tie, Dr. Giera answered our questions and more. Our baby DID NOT need a frenectomy, but we were referred to therapist who can remove the tension she has inhibiting her suck and swallow. I am walking away feeling hopeful and empowered. Dr. Giera is honest and warm. So thankful for her consultation appointment! Bonus is that she also let us stay in the room as long as we needed, so I was able to get another pump session in before the drive home, which shows how thoughtful she is. :)

We took our daughter to see Dr. G when she was 12 weeks old and had a fantastic experience. Dr. G assessed her for tongue and lip ties and recommended we proceed without a procedure. If it were her own baby, she said, she wouldn't bother with getting the ties lasered, as they were so minimal. She was gentle, kind and thorough, and she answered all of our questions without judgment. We also enjoyed the other staff members we interacted with.

Dr. Giera saw my 8 month old daughter for an evaluation of a lip tie. She explained the risks vs benefits and addressed all of my concerns. Not only did she give her professional opinion, she also gave me her opinion of what she would do in my place, which I really appreciate. She took her time with me and made sure we were comfortable with our decision before leaving. Very respectful and caring, highly recommend. The office staff was also friendly.

Our family is searching for a new dentist we can trust, as our current dentist is failing us. Having known Dr. Kelly for a while, I thought our entire family could benefit from her expertise. I called and left a message to schedule an appointment for my wife and son. A very rude receptionist called to say that the practice isn't accepting any new patients. Given the times, I find that hard to believe. When I tried to ask a follow up question, she became very short, repeated her initial sentence, and hung up on me. I was very offended by the rudeness of the person who called. The search continues...

We brought our 3 week old in for a lip and tongue tie evaluation after having a few recommendations to cut them from our pediatrician and midwife. We ultimately chose to come to Mosaic Dental for evaluation because they were the only office in all of Michigan it seemed that would allow both Mom and Dad in with the baby. We are SO incredibly grateful for Dr. Kelly - she was so warm and friendly and made us feel safe with our little one right on my lap the whole time. She paid attention to our birth experience and asked about our breastfeeding journey, so she could understand a full picture of our situation and give a recommendation that fit our needs as a family. After evaluating our baby, she let us know that the ties were not severe enough to cause a problem for him down the road and since he was eating well, there was no health concern for him. She then turned her attention to helping me set up some breastfeeding support. We got an incredible referral from her to a lactation consultant who came to our house that same night and helped us get even more comfortable breastfeeding with the ties,. Because of Dr. Kelly, we were able to avoid what would have been an unnecessary treatment, and now 7 weeks later he is thriving. She made us feel that we really were the priority. Mosaic Dental - Highly, highly, highly recommended!
