February has been designated Gum Disease Awareness Month! Initially launched by the Institute for Advanced Laser Dentistry, its purpose is to raise awareness about gum disease and encourage healthy dental habits to prevent it.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), gum disease, also referred to as periodontitis, is the result of infections and inflammation of the gums and bone that surround and support the teeth. In the early stages, the gums can become swollen and red, and they may bleed. As it progresses, the gums can pull away from the tooth, which can eventually result in bone and tooth loss. Not only does gum disease affect your mouth, it can affect your body as well. Regular check-ups and good oral hygiene are important to ensure everything is healthy.
Periodontal disease is mostly seen in adults, with 47.2% of those aged 30 years and older having some form of it. This risk only increases with age. On top of age, there are many other risk factors that can increase your chance of developing gum disease. One of the primary risk factors is smoking, followed by poor oral hygiene, diabetes, stress, hormonal changes and medications that cause dry mouth.
While gum disease starts in the mouth, when left untreated, it can start affecting many other parts of the body as well. This includes respiratory disease, rheumatoid arthritis, coronary artery disease and diabetes.

Staff was rude (more than once). Unprofessional. A bit scandalous. If I hadn't noticed my new dentures were off centered they wasn't going to say it. Heck yeah I noticed and now they are making me a new set. It's gonna take another 4 and a half months to get his problem corrected. I am a year without teeth already. Not what I wanted to see or hear!!

A few months ago I made an appointment with this provider for a cleaning. Today I went for my cleaning appointment. After nearly an hour of exrays, exams, etc., I was told that what I experienced was a "new patient exam". A cleaning would require another appointment which will cost me $1000. Also, the cost of the "new patient exam" was also $1000. I'm on Medicare with dental insurance. My insurance paid $175 which leaves me with an outstanding balance of $825! Knowing I'm on Medicare, why didn't they go over the cost before I sat down in the chair? I feel like I was taken advantage of.

I have called multiple times to make appointments, one was for a filling coming out was told it would be 3 months before I could get in, so i had to make an emergency visit elsewhere!!! Two weeks later I got a call stating that one of there offices had an opening but I had already gotten in elsewhere... Now, I'm told I can get in for new patient visit but may not get cleaning since its considered new patient. I've been there numerous times!!! Not my fault that this office is short staffed or whatever the reason is... this place is ridiculous, whats the point in having a dentist office that can never get you in then tell you you have to be seen as a new patient because it's been so long!!! We haven't been there in so long because your office could never get us in!!!! I will go elsewhere!!

When I showed up for my appointment, the door was locked. After they had sent me multiple reminders of my appointment, and I showed up 15 minutes early, to be considerate. Gave a horrible first impression. I won't bother with them again.
