February has been designated Gum Disease Awareness Month! Initially launched by the Institute for Advanced Laser Dentistry, its purpose is to raise awareness about gum disease and encourage healthy dental habits to prevent it.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), gum disease, also referred to as periodontitis, is the result of infections and inflammation of the gums and bone that surround and support the teeth. In the early stages, the gums can become swollen and red, and they may bleed. As it progresses, the gums can pull away from the tooth, which can eventually result in bone and tooth loss. Not only does gum disease affect your mouth, it can affect your body as well. Regular check-ups and good oral hygiene are important to ensure everything is healthy.
Periodontal disease is mostly seen in adults, with 47.2% of those aged 30 years and older having some form of it. This risk only increases with age. On top of age, there are many other risk factors that can increase your chance of developing gum disease. One of the primary risk factors is smoking, followed by poor oral hygiene, diabetes, stress, hormonal changes and medications that cause dry mouth.
While gum disease starts in the mouth, when left untreated, it can start affecting many other parts of the body as well. This includes respiratory disease, rheumatoid arthritis, coronary artery disease and diabetes.

Let me start with the fact that I am diagnosed with severe general anxiety disorder. I have a fear of dentists. Everyone put me at ease from the moment I walked in until I left. I felt heard and cared for. I had 2 teeth removed with little discomfort. I was back today for a more comprehensive exam and plan of treatment. Once again great experience. I now have a great team of dental professionals that I would recommend to any and everyone. Thank you for your care.

My husband called to get in for an emergency appointment for tooth pain before going out of town for the weekend. He called and they were able to get him in same day, great! He gets there, X-rays were taken, perio charting, and the dentist told him what needed to be done to fix the tooth (a small cavity) and a crown on the tooth behind it. They walk him up to the front desk to go over financials and to schedule for the crown.. My husband was thrown off as to why he wasn't getting his tooth pain addressed same day (which he explained on the phone was his concern) it was then explained that he was scheduled for a "new patient exam" and their schedule was packed for the day. He was upset that his appointment was made and the receptionist knew there would be no time in the schedule for a same day fix. Now, I worked in Corporate Dentistry as an Office Manager for over 5 years. Misguiding people and not informing them that their priority may or may not be addressed same day is wrong. If he would have been told that his tooth pain would not be addressed same day he wouldn't have made the appointment. The reason for emergency appointments is to CONVERT TREATMENT, especially if it is a small treatment plan & the patient is in pain. We will be disputing the charges with corporate and insurance.

I have had some unpleasant experiences dealing with my crown it took many months to fit, my partial continues to not fit properly requiring continuous refitting and they can't seem to get it fixed. Also they bill you for the things they send to the insurance saying it is your responsibility to pay for what the insurance is processing and they will bill you on procedures not yet completed. Buyer beware!

Three teeth extracted and no pain meds. I had to beg just for ibuprofen 800. Will not be going back!! I've always been given pain meds for getting teeth pulled and there's nothing wrong with using meds for a few days. It hurts!!! They sent me blood coming out of my mouth and no pain meds.

I'm needing a Crown glued back in as it fell out this morning. This office is listed in my GEHA dental web site as accepting new patients. I tried calling for over an hour with no answer. After 8 calls I drove to town to see if they could help me. After the girl found out I had GEHA insurance she starts telling me they don't take that insurance. I explained there were 14 doctors listed through my insurance that work there. How's that for great customer service! No help and my mouth and jaw are hurting. Thanks for nothing!
