February has been designated Gum Disease Awareness Month! Initially launched by the Institute for Advanced Laser Dentistry, its purpose is to raise awareness about gum disease and encourage healthy dental habits to prevent it.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), gum disease, also referred to as periodontitis, is the result of infections and inflammation of the gums and bone that surround and support the teeth. In the early stages, the gums can become swollen and red, and they may bleed. As it progresses, the gums can pull away from the tooth, which can eventually result in bone and tooth loss. Not only does gum disease affect your mouth, it can affect your body as well. Regular check-ups and good oral hygiene are important to ensure everything is healthy.
Periodontal disease is mostly seen in adults, with 47.2% of those aged 30 years and older having some form of it. This risk only increases with age. On top of age, there are many other risk factors that can increase your chance of developing gum disease. One of the primary risk factors is smoking, followed by poor oral hygiene, diabetes, stress, hormonal changes and medications that cause dry mouth.
While gum disease starts in the mouth, when left untreated, it can start affecting many other parts of the body as well. This includes respiratory disease, rheumatoid arthritis, coronary artery disease and diabetes.

Love Mortensen Today was just a checkup but previously over the years I have had a lot of work done with them. I also moved a year ago and am further away but I will always go to Mortensen and specifically this branch. Always referring people to them because they're the best!!

First, the hygienist I was assigned did not perform the requested work, but I paid for it every cent. However, I did receive a nice crown on a separate appointment. +1 for the good. Unfortunately, I was scheduled for two crowns and when I went for my 2nd crown Dr. Sarah proceeded to destroy the tooth in question with taking measurements for the crown. So, I was sent elsewhere for a total extraction. If the "professionals" in white coats did not want to perform the work. They did not need to contact me for the appointment. Because at the end of the day, the office initiated communication for my 2nd crown but here I sit looking for a professional who does the work that for which pay is received.

By far the best dental office in southern Indiana. From start to finish it was a great experience. Natalie was very nice, did a wonderful job cleaning my teeth, and was very informative of what a good dental plan was for me in the future. Abby up front was very helpful, friendly, and even had all my stuff done with my insurance and scheduling before I even walked up front after my dental work. I will definitely go back and will recommend them to others while I'm at it. Do yourself a favor and stop by and see what a good Dental experience should be like.

This dental office employs a staff that makes you feel welcome the minute you walk in the door. They listen to what you say and give expert, quality care. I drive from Louisville, Ky because of these wonderful ladies.

I do not recommend this mortenson to anyone! They overcharged me and didn't even contact me to get a refund. I had to call because my insurance told me that they owe money to me. This place is VERY SKETCHY! I had X-rays done on me and they found many cavities that would cost me a lot of money. I wasn't going to pay the amount they told me because I know I had good insurance so I went to another mortinson and did X-rays on me again and this time they found no cavities what so ever and they didn't charge me for the exam or X-rays like they did at the mortinson at new albany! I'm not trying to make this place look bad they are nice but I don't want anyone else getting ripped off like I did. This experience was with a doctor at this mortenson, new Albany So please beware as they are super sketchy and will overcharge you for things you don't need!

Very poor experience with Dr. Campbell at the State Street location. The office is phenomenal but Dr. Marianne Campbell Hafele created such a terrible experience that I will not be returning and will recommend everyone that is willing to listen to not utilize her services.
