February has been designated Gum Disease Awareness Month! Initially launched by the Institute for Advanced Laser Dentistry, its purpose is to raise awareness about gum disease and encourage healthy dental habits to prevent it.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), gum disease, also referred to as periodontitis, is the result of infections and inflammation of the gums and bone that surround and support the teeth. In the early stages, the gums can become swollen and red, and they may bleed. As it progresses, the gums can pull away from the tooth, which can eventually result in bone and tooth loss. Not only does gum disease affect your mouth, it can affect your body as well. Regular check-ups and good oral hygiene are important to ensure everything is healthy.
Periodontal disease is mostly seen in adults, with 47.2% of those aged 30 years and older having some form of it. This risk only increases with age. On top of age, there are many other risk factors that can increase your chance of developing gum disease. One of the primary risk factors is smoking, followed by poor oral hygiene, diabetes, stress, hormonal changes and medications that cause dry mouth.
While gum disease starts in the mouth, when left untreated, it can start affecting many other parts of the body as well. This includes respiratory disease, rheumatoid arthritis, coronary artery disease and diabetes.

I don't enjoy leaving this review because this office has always taken good care of me. But I recently ran into an issue with my insurance & put in three requests to speak with the office manager. She either refuses to call me back or has her staff call back. I may have to switch providers because of this even though I really don't want to.

When I had a toothache from inflammation from when I got fillings done, they fit me in right away. They made sure that I had antibiotics in case it was an infection and I came back four days later to have them recheck me. Everything came back fine. Everyone there are super sweet and they seem very knowledgeable. I would definitely go back and I recommend them.

Dr. Schlank is amazing! He is very knowledgeable and always gives reasoning behind his input on treatment plans. I have been to my fair share of dentist and he is definitely the best! The staff is great, they have a friendly atmosphere and explain everything as they do it! Eli helped with my treatment plan and was a hoot! I highly recommend this practice to anyone!

IThe staff here was all genuinely nice and caring. It took a couple months but I now have the best SMILE!!! I am so excited and so happy. This is the best SMILE I have had in 43 years. Thank you thank you thank you. If I can post a pic, I would or will. Haha. They are great. They explain everything and they go out of their way to make it happen. Thank you guys so so much!!!

Missed a visit due to illness and they told me I could no longer be a patient there. So much for customer service and professionalism. I'm sure they will comment and say I'm wrong but trust me, this group is draconian when it comes to missing or rescheduling appointments. Good luck. You've been warned.

This was our first time visiting Mortenson family dental. They actually fit my son in because he had a broken tooth. Everyone was fantastic from the front desk to the back! I'm so glad we found them and I look forward to working with them! Super grateful already!

Tried this place for the first time today and they recommended several fillings including a root canal and crown. I had seen my previous dentist 2 weeks earlier and he had recommended waiting and watching. Just know that the providers here are super aggressive with wanting to do treatment which probably is more profitable. When I said I would rather wait and watch, they were very terse with me and didn't even offer to schedule a follow-up appointment so needless to say, I will not be returning.

I was completely happy with this dental office until recently. Dr. Crawford is amazing when you can actually get in a chair. My daughter and my appointments have been rescheduled numerous times for various reasons including a couple times when i was not even notified and showed up. How is anyone supposed to maintain a cleaning schedule when they can't even see you. Also I have paid co pays in advance on all procedures we had done and recently received a 390 bill that said "bad debt" with the threat of collections. Office manager never has called back to discuss and I have been ignored. My husband had a consultation and is in need of a cleaning but can't get a call back with the out of pocket for all of it. I just think if you can't handle the patient load do not take new patients it is not fair to those of us who have been continued patients.

This is by far one of the best dental experiences I have had!! I have had a ton of dental work done over the years, and this has been one of the best experiences I have had. With a small mouth, working on it is not the easiest thing to do, and this office did a great job of getting the job done while being gentle about doing it as well as being accommodating to my lovely gag reflex that seems to always like getting in the way of things.
