February has been designated Gum Disease Awareness Month! Initially launched by the Institute for Advanced Laser Dentistry, its purpose is to raise awareness about gum disease and encourage healthy dental habits to prevent it.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), gum disease, also referred to as periodontitis, is the result of infections and inflammation of the gums and bone that surround and support the teeth. In the early stages, the gums can become swollen and red, and they may bleed. As it progresses, the gums can pull away from the tooth, which can eventually result in bone and tooth loss. Not only does gum disease affect your mouth, it can affect your body as well. Regular check-ups and good oral hygiene are important to ensure everything is healthy.
Periodontal disease is mostly seen in adults, with 47.2% of those aged 30 years and older having some form of it. This risk only increases with age. On top of age, there are many other risk factors that can increase your chance of developing gum disease. One of the primary risk factors is smoking, followed by poor oral hygiene, diabetes, stress, hormonal changes and medications that cause dry mouth.
While gum disease starts in the mouth, when left untreated, it can start affecting many other parts of the body as well. This includes respiratory disease, rheumatoid arthritis, coronary artery disease and diabetes.

I've gone to the Mortenson Branch on New Cut for 7 years. Dr Brandon is so thorough and the new dental hygienist is so gentle it's really impressive The only thing that was strange is for the first time in all those years the African business desk offce person said after I had my cleaning "Oh by the way it's not the regular price it's $80 more it's a maintenance cleaning" , I said I bought the Mortenson plan it's two cleanings, I guess the only thing in 7 years was strange unknown charges

I have went to 3 or 4 locations in the past and at each one they are always friendly and helpful to me, whether I come in for a cleaning or fixing a crown like they did today. I always have wonderful service and I am very appreciative of everything they do to help

Love the people & service. However, keep getting past due bills for visits I've been told have been taken care of. Each time I reach out to them, I'm told the office manager will let me know what's going on. I have never heard from this person. Switched from another dentist. Starting to wonder if I made the right decision! I'm just asking for some communication. Is that too much to ask!?!

Sam, my hygienist and Dr Zack were engaging and made my overall experience a good one. I was concerned that I had a cavity, but Dr. Zack took a conservative approach and elected to observe the area for the time being.

My child got her tooth filling and turns out they left some of her cheek inside of the filling. My child chewed her skin off. I'm just now finding out about this. I didn't understand why she was worried about her next appointment I KNOW NOW. Came to a second appointment and the lady at the reception were very dismissive of my concern.
