February has been designated Gum Disease Awareness Month! Initially launched by the Institute for Advanced Laser Dentistry, its purpose is to raise awareness about gum disease and encourage healthy dental habits to prevent it.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), gum disease, also referred to as periodontitis, is the result of infections and inflammation of the gums and bone that surround and support the teeth. In the early stages, the gums can become swollen and red, and they may bleed. As it progresses, the gums can pull away from the tooth, which can eventually result in bone and tooth loss. Not only does gum disease affect your mouth, it can affect your body as well. Regular check-ups and good oral hygiene are important to ensure everything is healthy.
Periodontal disease is mostly seen in adults, with 47.2% of those aged 30 years and older having some form of it. This risk only increases with age. On top of age, there are many other risk factors that can increase your chance of developing gum disease. One of the primary risk factors is smoking, followed by poor oral hygiene, diabetes, stress, hormonal changes and medications that cause dry mouth.
While gum disease starts in the mouth, when left untreated, it can start affecting many other parts of the body as well. This includes respiratory disease, rheumatoid arthritis, coronary artery disease and diabetes.

My granddaughter broke a piece of tooth and old filling off, and Mortenson's was able to get her in the next day. Staff was very nice, and my granddaughter said she didn't experience any pain during her visit.

I usually never leave reviews, but i feel like i should for them. i am usually deathly afraid of the dentist. my fear set me back for going for a while. May i just say, these ladies are THE MOST caring & understanding group i have met in a WHILE. I went in, told them what was bothering me and we got it fixed TODAY, with a plan made for the future. Ms.Taylor was the sweetest & helped me get my appointment set up. Ms.PJ made me feel so comfortable & treated me as her own while explaining everything. Dr.Emily warmed my heart by saying she remember who i was, although i haven't been in years, and she made all my pain go away. THANK YOU ALL! from the bottom of my heart, thank you!

Had a molar break down the middle. I honestly felt bad for the trouble that tooth gave them. If I winced, they would stop, "are you okay?" Great great great fellas. They got the tooth out and earned my respect! Got me in the very day I called about it. I can't say enough good stuff about them

Great place! I am from out of town and was in some pretty bad mouth pain. This office was not only extremely friendly and sympathetic, but they also got me in almost immediately to be seen by the doctor. If you need quality, friendly and fast service, look no further. Facility was clean and professional. Staff was informative and friendly. I came for a crown, when giving the anesthetics try to numb in all areas the needle will go in. It would also be nice to inform what's what while working, offer a wash cloth or something to clean mouth as the water and get messy, give something for the pain or educate what to take so by the time the numbing agents wear off the patient won't in so much pain. Overall I still had a good experience.
