February has been designated Gum Disease Awareness Month! Initially launched by the Institute for Advanced Laser Dentistry, its purpose is to raise awareness about gum disease and encourage healthy dental habits to prevent it.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), gum disease, also referred to as periodontitis, is the result of infections and inflammation of the gums and bone that surround and support the teeth. In the early stages, the gums can become swollen and red, and they may bleed. As it progresses, the gums can pull away from the tooth, which can eventually result in bone and tooth loss. Not only does gum disease affect your mouth, it can affect your body as well. Regular check-ups and good oral hygiene are important to ensure everything is healthy.
Periodontal disease is mostly seen in adults, with 47.2% of those aged 30 years and older having some form of it. This risk only increases with age. On top of age, there are many other risk factors that can increase your chance of developing gum disease. One of the primary risk factors is smoking, followed by poor oral hygiene, diabetes, stress, hormonal changes and medications that cause dry mouth.
While gum disease starts in the mouth, when left untreated, it can start affecting many other parts of the body as well. This includes respiratory disease, rheumatoid arthritis, coronary artery disease and diabetes.

I love this dentist, they sell amazing mouth wash, just ask them for some, it is a game changer. I have always gotten great service and I religiously always went to deantists for cleanings. The other dentists were missing minute changes that could get worse. This dentist found them, worked with me to fix them and now my mouth is perfect. Exactly how I want it to be. I would not go anywhere else. The best dentist I have ever been to.

My appointment got canceled the same day I was due to be in. Which is understandable...but whats not understandable is this....If I wanted the same time appointment time it would have been a 2 month wait....so I changed my time and end up waiting 1 month instead.....

This was my first visit and all the staff, from the front desk, to the dental assistant, the hygienist and the dentist were all so kind, welcoming and answered any questions I had. They made the whole visit a very positive one and I was very impressed. I would highly recommend Mortenson Family Dental to anyone.

Where to begin... Scheduled for my 1st time appointment arrive on time only to see not taped to door they are closed due to doctor emergency. Thanks for the phone call and/or email giving me the heads up. I didn't have to leave work early and use sick time after all. My new first appointment, which was requested as a cleaning, turned into a consultation. Apparently whomever at the call center didn't understand my cleaning request. My 2nd appointment I thought was for a cleaning again. Nope, it's for 3 fillings. I am 39, not my 1st cavity and sadly probably not my last. Why am I in pain 2 weeks later? Was NOT in pain prior to seeing dentist, didn't even know I had a cavity. Now I am in pain. This is not normal but they swear it is. Now I should be picking up my mouth guard today. Wouldn't ya know I am not on the schedule. Though it was scheduled at end of 2nd appointment. 3rd strike. NOT IMPRESSED.

They made me a new set of dentures in march 2022 They were great and I fell and broke the front top tooth in September and they repaired it you you can't tell. Great place to go

If you have Medicaid, they treat you differently. They treat you like you're a chore they hate having to do. It doesn't feel good

We live in Mount Sterling and drive for an hour to see Dr.Allen at Mortenson Family Dental. We love all of the staff, regardless of what type of insurance you have, they are the same to everyone ! Wonderful ! We will be staying with Mortenson Dental and staff for good. Everyone is so friendly, there is no shaming by the dentists or anyone there at any time. Thank you Dr.Allen, we appreciate you and all of your staff !

Multiple appointments to fix a filling they did that fell out on the first day, they're friendly but that's it. None of those appointments were successful because according to them I didn't have insurance when I actually did and went to Aspen dental who said I in fact had insurance. So thanks terrible dentist office for months of suffering from your incompetence

Promoting deep cleaning and if you choose not to, then they will not proceed with any other services. They will tell you since you choose not to deep clean then they can do nothing else for you.

They make taking your kids to them feel so at ease and comfortable knowing that they are very very good with kids , even ones with special needs. Finally a Dentist Office with a Heart that really Cares about making you not scared of the word "Dentist " anymore."

I wouldn't even leave one star. I have Medicaid, but my MPO doesn't have many dentist's accepting it this year for whatever reason. So, I found myself going here after a bad car accident which damaged some teeth. A few of them were just old fillings needing to be maintained, but they refused saying it was root canal or extraction. Leaving me no hope of regaining my smile. I thought I could hold out for a second opinion when 2 teeth broke. I had the first pulled and wasn't given enough numbing so I felt the whole thing and wasn't given any pain medication afterwards either. The second tooth broke off in the middle of the night. I painfully made the call to have it extracted the next morning. I am sharing a vehicle since my accident and was 10 minutes late. I was told they'd have to reschedule me. Because of this I was left in excruciating pain. I finally got into the UK adult dentistry clinic the next day and received the help I needed. I would not recommend Mortenson to anyone.

Booked an appointment with them after an insurance change. Was left a rude message on my voice mail from them, I guess they thought I had no insurance. When I arrived 7 minutes late due to my prior appointment running an hour late, they wanted to reschedule . I was floored. Never would I recommend them .
