February has been designated Gum Disease Awareness Month! Initially launched by the Institute for Advanced Laser Dentistry, its purpose is to raise awareness about gum disease and encourage healthy dental habits to prevent it.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), gum disease, also referred to as periodontitis, is the result of infections and inflammation of the gums and bone that surround and support the teeth. In the early stages, the gums can become swollen and red, and they may bleed. As it progresses, the gums can pull away from the tooth, which can eventually result in bone and tooth loss. Not only does gum disease affect your mouth, it can affect your body as well. Regular check-ups and good oral hygiene are important to ensure everything is healthy.

Periodontal disease is mostly seen in adults, with 47.2% of those aged 30 years and older having some form of it. This risk only increases with age. On top of age, there are many other risk factors that can increase your chance of developing gum disease. One of the primary risk factors is smoking, followed by poor oral hygiene, diabetes, stress, hormonal changes and medications that cause dry mouth.

While gum disease starts in the mouth, when left untreated, it can start affecting many other parts of the body as well. This includes respiratory disease, rheumatoid arthritis, coronary artery disease and diabetes.

Took my dad here with a broken filling. Dr Wilson and all of her staff we interacted with during evaluation, cleaning and repairing 2 fillings were very professional and kind, and you can tell they're very skilled at what they do. Will be referring family and friends to the Dry Ridge office.

Saw some familiar faces and some new faces. My youngest is disabled and nonverbal. They were absolutely wonderful with her. Teresa even had her laughing. I'm glad to see them at our late dentist's office. My appointment is later this week and I'm qualm free. Update: Had my appointment. I'm apprehensive about the needle in the gums so I opted for nitrous oxide. My whole appointment was easy least. Great decision!

Thanks to mortenson family dental doing a root canal on my tooth and didn't put a cap on it because they were trying to have me spend $600 on a porcelain cap at 17 years of age... 2 years later that same tooth is being pulled out of my mouth.

I waited over 2 months for my appointment. 1 day before my appointment they call and tell me they dont take my insurance. I'm on medicare and I'm sure that's why. If you are retired or disabled it looks like the only choice is healthpointe. Not the first dentist to do this. I guess the bottom line in the only thing they care about.

My appointment has been rescheduled 3 times now a few days before the actual appointment. They aren't able to get me in for months after, just to call and reschedule again. This has been since September. Don't waste your time.

Very clean and friendly place. I had some cavities and they helped me create the best plan with my input and money in mind. They were patient and kind with my 2.5 year old and ultimately made it a great experience for both of us. 100% would recommend to a friend and would definitely return with my family! I have since returned and had another wonderful experience. Different doctor and hygienist, same quality service!!
