For years we have loved this office however the last few times they have not had the same quality care. Theyvrushbthrough cleanings- bareley even cleaning with my youngest. Last visit I was told the procedure "they recommended but wasn't necessary" for my son would be covered completely by insurance only to get a bill weeks AFTER the procedure showing it wasn't covered at all. No phone call to say this wasnt covered, just mailed a bill. When I called to question the bill they said it's my job to check with insurance to make sure it's actually covered. They just assume and don't check because that could take up to 30 days. I did call the insurance and they said most insurances don't cover this.

There are a great place to take your child. But if you have tenncare and make a mistake they want see your child anymore so basically they punish your child. That's all.

Do not take your child here!! Our experience came from 2013 and I cringe when I hear her name. The work she did was not necessary and poor quality. The cap she put on was not the right size and food was trapped under the cap causing my son to have to get another cap from a much better dentist in Knoxville. This dentist questioned the quality of the work done by Dr. Helderman and said that in her career she only had to go to the hospital a handful of times to do the work. Dr. Helderman loves doing surgery at the hospital. Dr. Helderman also required her part upfront or refused to do the surgery. That was 2,000 dollars. My wife and I have always had excellent credit and couldn't understand her demands and refusal to accept payments then. But we payed her the 2,000 dollars because we trusted her. I worked in a pediatric medical office for 8 years so we was aware of the do's and dont's in kids. So we wasn't doing anything to cause so many cavities, 8 total she said. BTW she intially said 4 but I guess when she seen she had us on the hook she wanted more money. What's funny is since then my son has been going to Dr. Moody and has not had one cavity at all. And when the dentist he briefly went to in Knoxville replaced the cap she did so in office with laughing gas. Wow, no hospital! I hope her ethics have gotten better since this experience but I won't chance it w!ith my kids again. You should not either

Brought our daughter in for a standard cleaning today. Everything seemed normal and fine until we got home. She has been throwing up The entire time since the Dentist appointment. The only thing different was that they used a fluoride varnish And during the cleaning process the dental hygienist did not use suction and our little girl pretty much swallowed everything being used. It was only after the fact I mentioned something that the dental hygientist used water and suction. A little too late she had already swallowed everything. I did some research and found out That fluoride varnish if not applied correctly large amounts seep into the bloodstream through the gum barrier due to the concentration and how acidic it is. This in turn causing upper and lower gastric issues among other complications. Also this fluoride varnish can lead to kidney problems and other issues that are permanent due to the high concentration of fluoride Absorbed from this particular product. None of the side effects or dangers were ever discussed. I was there for the entire procedure and mentioned multiple times to the dental hygiene is it normal that she keeps swallowing should you not be using the suction. She then told me That my child would have to drink a bathtub full before it would hurt her that its okay to swallow. I find this odd being that your supposed to brush with fluoride toothpaste and it specifically says on the back of the tube if you swallow any amount to notify a poison control center. Not to mention she has Vomited multiple times since the Appointment. A little side note she has never vomited in her entire life she is never even been sick. Also when applying the fluoride varnish she did not take her time to make sure it did not get all over her gums and lips but instead basically painted it on superfast and not precise. According to the American Dental Association the child is supposed to be sitting up During the application and there also supposed to use suction to ensure the child does not swallow too much of the fluoride varnish. Once applied they are supposed to use air to dry the varnish. The ADA came to these conclusions in the 80's after there research found that flouride varnish causes alot of issues and in rare causes even death if not applied correctly. My wife is the one that normally comes to these appointments this is the 1st time I brought my little girl. I do not trust these people it's always a different changing story. The last appointment they told my wife that our little girl needed a filling and a cap on one of her teeth and now magically they don't have any record of ever saying that. Also they told her that she needed a frenectomy. While in the office I overheard them tell at least 3 people the exact same thing. It is an unneeded procedure except for in rare cases. According to multiple articles most dentist will recommend these Claiming that it's going to help a gag reflex and speech when in fact it's another way to perform an unnecessary procedure to make more money. This is why most insurances will not cover it Because it is not necessary. We are not happy and we are going to find another dentist.

Dr. Helderman and the hygienists did an amazing job of keeping my little one calm. Her back baby molar broke and Dr. Helderman walked me through the process of what needed to be done. They pulled the tooth on the same day! When my little one kept repeating she was afraid, Dr. Helderman calmly told her it was okay to be afraid. My little one LOVES coming to this office for her check ups as well.

Wonderful place. Both of my children have been going there for over 4 yrs. Both Dr. Helderman and her staff are amazing, very kid friendly and explain everything to you as they go. Not only is the office clean, but it is also fun for the kids. Both of my kids actually looked forward to going to the dentist. Too bad they only take kids. It's so amazing that I'd go there.
