Morris Family Dentistry - General dentist in Zachary, LA

Oral systemic health is the link between your oral health and overall health. Dr. Morris wants his patients to not only think of their dental health as something that only affects their teeth and gums. Dental problems can lead to physical health problems, just as health problems are a risk factor for certain dental issues. Some of the dental health treatments that Dr. Morris provides that support oral systemic health include:

  • Mercury-Free Dental Fillings: Dr. Morris uses the Safe Mercury Amalgam Removal Technique (SMART) to remove amalgam fillings, which contain liquid mercury as well as tin, copper, and silver. He recommends mercury-free dental fillings to his patients as a safer replacement. White dental fillings are a popular option that blends in with the appearance of natural teeth. They are a safe and durable alternative to traditional amalgam dental fillings.
  • Flouride-Free Dental Care: Too much fluoride may lead to hypertension, bone weakness, and thyroid problems. Dr. Morris does not provide fluoride treatments to patients. Instead, he recommends that patients care for their oral and physical health to combat tooth decay. Routine oral hygiene and biannual dental visits can prevent gum and tooth infections.
  • Frenectomies: Dr. Morris provides oral surgery to patients who have tongue-tie or lip-tie. He also uses myofunctional therapy before and after the frenectomy procedure to build strength in the tongue and lip muscles. Cutting the lingual frenulum and strengthening the muscles in the lips and tongue make eating and speaking more comfortable for patients.
  • Oral Appliances: Oral appliances are an effective way for patients to treat obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Sleep apnea and heart problems are linked; patients who momentarily cease breathing at night are more at risk of heart disease, stroke, and heart attacks. Wearing an oral appliance during sleep opens up the airways and helps prevent the chance of these problems developing.
  • Dr. Morris has completed the Dawson Academy curriculum and training with the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology (IAOMT). He follows the philosophies of these institutions to provide the highest quality of care possible for his patients. The Dawson Academy provides continuing education courses for professional dentists. Through these courses, Dr. Morris has learned to take the joints and muscles of the face and jaw into account for occlusal, or bite problems. He examines each aspect of the dental and occlusal systems for precise diagnosis and treatment.

Following the standards of the IAOMT, Dr. Morris uses the SMART protocol to treat patients with amalgam fillings. Amalgam dental fillings contain mercury, which can cause problems when inhaled or accumulated in the body. When absorbed through the lungs, mercury can cause mood swings, muscle weakness, decreased mental function, and poor coordination. Using his training from the Dawson Academy and IAOMT, Dr. Morris is able to safely remove dental fillings that contain mercury. He follows the guidelines of the IAOMT, using protective glasses and oxygen masks to prevent mercury inhalation for both patients and dentists.

Dr. Chad Morris received his Doctorate of Dental Surgery in 2001 from LSU School Dentistry where he was a member of the C. Edmond Kells Honor Society and the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Honor Society. Growing up in Zachary, it was always a desire of his to return here to establish his dental practice. He graduated from Zachary High School in 1994 and attended Louisiana Tech University for his undergraduate studies.

He has completed the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology (IAOMT) coursework for safe amalgam removal (SMART Protocol), where he is also a member. He recognizes the relationship between oral health and the overall health of patients. Dr. Chad has also completed numerous courses in orthodontics through the American Orthodontic Society. Currently, he is completing a 2-year mini-residency on the relationship between occlusion, oral/facial pain, and overall health of patients through the Dawson Academy in Florida. He is also a member of the Dawson Association for Complete Dentistry. Dr. Morris is a Dawson Scholar, who has completed the Dawson Academy curriculum and residency program.

In his free time, Dr. Chad enjoys hunting, fishing, playing his guitar, and spending time with his family. He and his wife Ashley have 4 kids: Kent, Madison, Avery, and Gabrielle. Family and faith in God are both very important to Dr. Chad, and it is his goal to reflect this in his life and his dental practice.

I had mercury fillings removed by Dr. Morris as I was found to have mercury poisoning. I loved all the precautions he takes with the procedure, even the nasty green juice!!! I felt very comfortable with him doing the procedure. His staff was great from the front desk to his assistants and the office staff even got me in at an earlier date for the 2nd removal of the mercury. Plan to use him as my regular dentist as soon as my present dentist retires!

I just moved to Zachary. Having sensitive teeth and gums I was concerned about the exam and cleaning being quite painful as I've had many such experiences before. However, in 30 years of going to dentists, I have never had such a good experience! I joked afterwards that I might as well been at a spa. Both Dr Chad Morris and his hygienist Macy, were so gentle I literally didn't even feel the slightest discomfort at any point. Furthermore, I had many questions and they each took the time to not only thoroughly answer my queries, but did so in a kind and understanding way. With the stereotypes concerning dentists, doctors, and the like this will sound odd but -- but I look forward to seeing them again in six months haha! Ruth Vincent
