(Greater Pierce County Study Club), a Comprehensive Dental Study Club for general dentists and dental hygienists. She is also the co-founder and co-chair of ICDE (Institute for Comprehensive Dental Education) and the PiC- Group in Koeln/Germany.
Lecturing nationally and internationally, Dr. Karbakhsch is an active member of several professional organizations both in the United States and Europe. Her professional affiliations include the Academy of General Dentistry (AGD), American Academy of Periodontology (AAP), Academy of Osteointegration (AO), European Federation of Periodontology (EFP), Pierce County Dental Society (PCDS), American Dental Association (ADA), and the German Society of Periodontology (DGP). Dr. Karbakhsch is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology. Dr. Karbakhsch is a Diplomat of the American Board of Periodontology.
In addition to her love and dedication to dentistry, periodontics, and teaching, in her spare time, Dr. Karbakhsch enjoys the great outdoors. She has a passion for golfing and skiing, as a licensed ski instructor in Germany. She enjoys the fine arts, opera, and cooking with friends and family.
Dr. Karbakhsch is actively involved in supporting various local charities. She has been recognized for her volunteer work and commitment to providing treatments to people with disabilities, elderly, or medically compromised through the Donated Dental Services program by Dental Lifeline Network Washington. She also works towards building community health care centers to enhance access to care and aiding the world affairs council in facing local and global issues. Dr. Karbakhsch speaks four languages fluently, which has been a pleasant surprise to many of our patients during their visit.
From 2003-2007, Dr. Katafuchi pursued his Ph.D. thesis both at the Department of Prosthodontics at Fukuoka Dental Collage as well as The Dental Research Center of the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.
After receiving his Ph.D., Dr. Katafuchi joined the faculty at the Department of Prosthodontics of his alma mater in Fukuoka, where he taught the next generations of dentists and maintained his private faculty practice until 2013.
Dr. Katafuchi completed his postdoctoral training in Periodontics / Implants at the University of Washington in Seattle. He has authored several articles on bone biology and dental implants and has been invited to present in national and international meetings such as;
Recently, he was invited to China where he shared his knowledge of computer-guided surgery with fellow colleagues in the East. This presentation and cooperation lead to the idea of forming an international Study Circle. Locally, he has taught at the University of Washington and continues to donate his time to the Dental School as an affiliate faculty member.
Besides his passion for Dentistry and clinical research, in his spare time, Dr. Katafuchi actively runs, pushing his sons stroller along with him, plays Frisbee and badminton (he is a former Dental School champion). He also enjoys Baseball, really digs Buffalo wings, and any BBQ. He loves living in and exploring the Pacific Northwest with his wife and son, either by foot or on wheels.

I have been a patient of this practice for at least 4 years. Honest to goodness, I am continually impressed with the level of customer service. The front end staff is welcoming beyond compare.Particularly Sophia. Also, At least two others with outrageous customer service. I call it Directors of First Impressions. It is comforting to me in this era of on-line trade where I feel like this level of service is a forgotten art. I can not think of a comparison of any other business where you feel so cared for. Dr. Karbakhsh and staff think of every comforting thing A warm blanket, continued moisturizer to lips, soothing voice, and most importantly confident advice that ensures you have the latest state of the art science and methodology.

I will recommend this place to any and everyone ! It is such a great & welcoming environment from the receptionist to the Dental hygienist and Doctors . Alexa was so great at explaining everything and going above and beyond with my Treatment . Dr. Karbakhsch is absolutely amazing , she is always very attentive to your needs and makes it's her mission to always check on her patients ! The whole staff is amazing ! 10/10 Recommend

It was such a relief to see how seriously they take covid-19. They went beyond securing my health before, during and after my visit. The staff was very professional, conversational and well knowledged in assisting the doctor. I highly recommend.

I had a fairly complicated filling procedure done by Dr. Katafuchi. The entire staff were very caring and professional. They explained everything that was going to be taking place and answered all my questions. Dr. Katafuchi called the next day to check on me which I appreciated.

Wow! What an amazing doctor and staff! We had the best experiences ever. My daughter needed surgery and graft and Dr. Karbakhsch was so gentle, kind and caring, this doctor took all the time to explain and educate me on the treatment needed for my 14 year old daughter. We felt like we were the only clients in the office. My daughter had such a great experience and the work was beautiful. Her graft is perfect, she has almost no swelling or bruising! This is definitely the best periodontist in this area! I know because I work in the dental field. Thank you so much Dr. Karbakhsch and staff for taking such great care of Camila.

Today was my fourth visit to MK Periodontics in Tacoma on Union. I used to be scared of the dentist and Dr. K and her staff are always pleasant and knowledgeable. They have machines that use water and salts to clean below the gumline and remove plaque. So much nicer than other deep cleanings I've had. I didn't have a dentist I was happy with and found MK Periodontics by scouring reviews. So happy I found her and she recommended a great general dentist to oversee my care, Dr. Mitchell and Dr. Buttaro at Fife Dental Center. I am so happy now with my teeth and gums and I know that as long as I keep the appointments and practice good home care, I will never have to lose a tooth again. MK Periodontics consistently exceeds expectations. The waiting area is always spotless, although I'm usually there less than 10 minutes (last visit was less than 5). The staff is attentive, courteous, and always professional. Dr. Karbakhsch is great at explaining procedures and takes the time to ensure patients needs are meet. Overall my experiences and interactions with the entire group are very positive and I highly recommend.

I had tori surgery ( removal of bony growths in the lower jaw) in February with Dr. Karbakhsch. Although I had a sense or dread with this surgery it went perfect. Dr. Karbakhsch and her staff are meticulous with following the CDC guidelines and keeping patient's safe. Dr. Karbakhsch's technique is perfection. I can't even tell I had oral surgery. Dr. Prior an anesthesiologist administered IV sedation and I tolerated it well. I left the office with no complications. My recovery was easy. Now I have greater movement with my tongue that was restricted. My oral hygiene has improved and it is no longer painful to have oral x-rays. I want to thank Dr. Karbakhsch and her staff and Dr. Prior for outstanding care. I also see Dr. Karbakhsch for perio maintenance and would highly recommend her for these oral issues.

Dr. Karbasch has erased decades of dental fear in my life. She thoroughly examined my dental structure, explained the results, and showed me proof by the photos that she took. Her staff is friendly and aims to please. Their spa-like touch is comforting during surgery. They want to help you keep your teeth as long as you can. Discovering MK Periodontics is the best thing that has ever happened to me for excellent dental care.
