My greatest passion is helping patients feel confident in their smile. Having a healthy and beautiful smile really affects how you interact with the world and plays a role in the way you feel about yourself. I love to enhance smiles while keeping a natural appearance. Its important to me that cosmetic work doesnt look like work, but rather, an improved version of your own smile, with natural contours and translucency. Little details make a big difference in cosmetic dentistry.
I also place great importance on pediatric jaw development. The growth of our jaws and face is not 100% genetic; rather, our jaws and face also grow in response to external factors such as diet and breathing habits. I enjoy working with children in order to maximize proper growth and reduce the need for future extensive orthodontic treatment.
Dr. Mary Karvounis was raised in Montgomery County, Maryland, and attended the University of Maryland, College Park for her undergraduate studies, where she majored in Biology. She then attended the University of Maryland, Baltimore School of Dentistry where she completed her Doctorate of Dental Surgery.
While in dental school, she completed the Albert Schweitzer Fellowship, a community service-based leadership project. During this fellowship, she worked with the House of Ruth in Baltimore, MD, a womens shelter, to help educate the House of Ruths residents in oral care and provide dental examinations.
She enjoys transforming smiles while maintaining a natural appearance and a functional bite. She is trained in facial injectables such as Botox and dermal fillers, and strives to give patients a healthy and natural-looking result.
Dr. Karvounis is Invisalign certified and has completed a multitude of orthodontic cases. She also has a passion for working with children to establish healthy airways and jaws, and maintain healthy oral habits that lead to proper facial and jaw growth and well-aligned adult teeth.

A visit to Dr. Karvounis' office is always a great experience. Tiffany at the front desk is friendly and pleasant and you are always greeted with a smile. The waiting room (and the practice is general) is very clean, well-appointed and relaxing. The technicians are meticulous and friendly - my teeth and gums always feel their cleanest and healthiest after a cleaning here. If I haven't done the greatest job keeping things clean (who hasn't!), the staff in general are encouraging and positive. Dr. Karvounis is also very thorough, very professional, and very knowledgeable as evidenced by examinations on myself and my family. Dr. Karvounis has expertise in mouth/airway development, particularly in children. We have directly benefitted from this expertise, as her diagnosis and treatment of my son (narrow palate, tongue tie) has improved his quality of life primarily in terms of sleeping, but also eating. I can very highly recommend Dr. Karvounis' practice for the entire family - for routine checkups, but especially for checkups for the little ones!

I have been seeing Dr. Karvounis for about a year now and couldn't be more pleased. I thought my last dentist was pretty good, but Dr. K raises the bar. Her entire staff is top-notch and the office has a warm and inviting charm. Highly recommend this practice!

Can going to the dentist ever be a good experience? Yes, it can. MK Dentistry is exceptional and I highly recommend them for any and all of your dentist needs. The office resembles a beautiful, upscale home and the staff treat you just like family. Friendly, professional and exceptional workmanship! It doesn't get any better than this!

Dr. Karvounis and her staff are super gentle!, professional and empathetic!!!Dr. Karvounis calmed my fears! Dr. Karvounis explained everything throughly before she did the work!! We love MK Dentistry!! Betty is so wonderful with kids. She was able to calmly and kindly explain everything she was going to do and put both my kids at ease. (My three year old even ended up naming one of her baby dolls Baby Betty after such a wonderful visit!) Dr. Karvounis is so kind and knowledgeable. She is so calm and able to work with me, even with some minor dental phobias. Everyone we have referred to her has loved her as well!

I had an excellent experience with Ms. Betty and Dr. Karvounis. I felt my cleaning with Ms. Betty was gentle, efficient, and thorough. Dr. Karvounis took her time to make me comfortable and offered me good treatment options based on her expertise. Dr Karvounis explained every step in the process of replacing one of my crowns which I found to be very reassuring. She would ask if I was doing ok and was very professional in her attention to my comfort or discomfort. The hygienist Elsie was also very professional and friendly. I highly recommend MK Dentistry.
