Dr. Mitchell, Dr. Bartlett, and Dr. Bell have always aimed to provide cutting-edge orthodontic treatment by keeping up with the latest orthodontic research and implementing the most advanced technology in their practice. As a result, they were invited by Ormco, a leading orthodontic supply company and the manufacturer of Damon braces, to take part in theirInsidersgroup.

AsInsidersmembers, Drs. Mitchell, Bartlett, andBell are invited to join a select group of orthodontists from around the country to hear about the latest research and development initiatives the company is working on. At these twice-yearly meetings, the Ormco R&D team listens to our doctorsinsights and opinions to improve product development in the future.

Mitchell, Bartlett & Bell Orthodontics has also participated in clinical trials of new products to help advance the art and science of orthodontics. Some examples of the advanced technology we use are: Insignia customized Damon braces, Invisalign, temporary skeletal anchorage devices, and thei-CAT FLX digital scan machine. This machine ensures low radiation, quick and precise processing, and stellar 3D images in order to deliver nothing short of amazing treatments to our patients.

Just as important, our three doctorshave strong foundations in the more traditional orthodontic treatment techniques that are tried and true. This combination of embracing new technology, and trusting what we know works, gives us the perspective we need to provide truly customized orthodontic care. There is no one size fits all treatment approach in our office!

If youhave visited our Greensboro office, you may not be surprised that those lyrics have been my theme song since I first saw Lyle Lovett perform in 1992. Or you may have wondered why the office has a seemingly schizophrenic mixture of beach theme and horse art and now youll know.

I grew up in South Florida as the daughter of two teachers, one of whom was a marine biologist. We lived exclusively on a sailboat for almost two years and still felt most at home on the water, even after we moved to solid ground. By the age of six, though, I had developed the type of passion for horses that would gladly keep me doing chores at the barn all day in exchange for an unofficial riding lesson (after all, whats better than the smell of manure and hay???). Funny thing is, horses and boats dont typically go together, except in the imaginative mind of Lyle Lovett.

So as a compromise, I decided that if I had to be on the boat instead of at the barn, I would carry a sketch pad with me and draw horses (and any marine life that caught my attention). For a long time I thought art was going to be my thing, but as I got older I couldnt deny that science seemed to come naturally possibly an inevitability when you grow up learning fish names by genus and species and your dad has a laboratory devoted to polychaetes (marine worms) in your garage.

By the summer before my senior year, I came to my senses and started taking pre-dental science classes (although being an economist would be pretty interesting in this day and age). After graduating, and a brief stint interning on a thoroughbred breeding farm south of Seattle, I finished my dental prerequisites in Boston while working at Boston Universitys dental school and was accepted to UNC School of Dentistry in 1993 (NCAA Championship year Go Heels!). As far as I was concerned, it couldnt get any better than that!

I had the great fortune of transitioning straight from dental school into the UNC Department of Orthodontics, where I trained under the internationally renowned orthodontic professorDr. Bill Proffitt. As a very green resident I was given the chance to lecture in Finland and Sweden, and when audiences heard I was from Chapel Hill, they all wanted to listen (no pressure, right?). After finishing the residency, I got invaluable on-the-job training as an associate in five different orthodontic practices, including one in the Seattle area that had belonged to the editor ofThe American Journal of Orthodontics. I also enjoyed a research fellowship year, and a year of teaching, both at UNC.

It wasnt until 2003 that I found an orthodontic home here in the Triad. I was honored to take over the Greensboro practice of Dr. Gary Jacobs after meeting his widow, Karen, who is still one of the most gracious people I know. Only a team of six, we opened our Kernersville office on a part-time basis in 2005 with hopeof building it enough to bring in a second doctor (solo business ownership is a LOT of work). I couldnt have been luckier than to connect with Dr. Brian Bartlett in the summer of 2006. I knew it was meant to be when, in our very first conversation, he told me he and his wife, Rita, had just attended a wedding with none other than Lyle Lovett!

When it came time for me to pursue a career path, my interest in health care steered me towardthe profession of orthodontics, as it seemed like a perfect blend of science and design. As a practicing orthodontist, however, what Ive come to appreciate most is the positive impact that treatment can have on a persons self-confidence and quality of life. I love what I do and take great pride in helping my patients achieve the type of smile they desire.

I attended college in rural Ohio, where I played baseball and majored in history. My most important accomplishment during my time at Kenyon College, however, was meeting my wife, Rita. As a dental student at Northwestern University in Chicago, I was awarded a US Army Health Professions Scholarship, and I went on to pursue a postdoctorate residency in orthodontics at The Ohio State University, where I became indoctrinated into Buckeye football fever!

Following my orthodontic residency, I moved to North Carolina to fulfill my military commitment at Fort Bragg Womack Army Medical Center. As chief of orthodontics at Fort Bragg, I was honored to provide comprehensive orthodontic care for active-duty soldiers and serve as faculty to the oral and maxillofacial surgery and advanced education in general dentistry residency programs.

While teaching residents, I gained valuable experience using the most innovative techniques in surgical orthodontics and interdisciplinary treatment. I also learned from this deserving population of American heroes the value of hard work and sacrifice that has helped me become a better citizen, husband, and father.

I live in Greensboro with my wifeRita, a child clinical psychologist, and our two boys, Sam and Ben, who keep us happily busy. We spend our time doing all things outdoors, and we enjoy traveling throughout the country, especially to visit the national parks and cheer on our favorite sports teams, the Cardinals and the Buckeyes.

I would give 0 but I can't they are so rude they act like I know nothing. The staff is so rude, mean, and just very mean. I gave had to come up there over 4 times to get a bracket reglue bc they fall off. They never fall off when I eat anything it's when I'm watching TV or at school. I'm so tried going back to get my bracket reglued and it's not my fault. I never eat the things they tell me not to. Hate it DO NOT GO HERE

After my daughter's first few adult teeth came in it was obvious she would need braces. the more teeth that came in the worse it got. Before even half of them were in the dentist told us that the situation had gone from cosmetic concern to medical necessity. Before going to Mitchell, Bartlett and Bell we were advised that, in addition to the orthodontic work, up to four teeth would need to be removed to make room and that even after that she would probably still need surgery to lengthen her jaw. it was so bad that her bottom front teeth were digging into the roof of her mouth. after four years of excellent and attentive care from everyone at MBB my daughter has ALL of her teeth, was able to avoid serious surgery, and has an absolutely gorgeous smile. She rarely complained of pain and when she did it was mild and brief. in addition to dental problems my daughter also has autism and was diagnosed with epilepsy during the treatment process. the MBB team was always so understanding and incredibly helpful. at one point the braces needed to be removed entirely for an MRI and the neurologist was pleasantly surprised at how quickly MBB got us in to make that happen. i can't say enough about everyone on staff at the Kernersville office. they are all wonderful and my family is very appreciative of their work.

Who knew one could get their teeth straightened without pain? Dr. Bartlett and all of the staff have been absolutely wonderful! I would've done it years ago had I known how great my teeth would look, how painless the process was, and the price wasn't painful either. Thank you all so much.

Dr. Mitchell and Team have done it again! 2nd daughter through braces and not once during either did we have a complaint. From start to finish with both girls, our expectations were met. We were told what to expect and there was always consistent follow through. Our girls did what was asked of them and stayed on track throughout treatment.
