Dr. Mirras was born and raised in Lowell graduating from Lowell High School in 1974. After working several years in the medical field she found herself gravitating toward Dentistry. Initially a Dental Assistant, in 1982 she decided to return back to school to obtain her Degree in Dental Hygiene. The experiences that followed in both private practice and hospital dentistry had Dr. Mirras choosing, once again, to further her education.

Dr. Schilder, a world renown Endodontist, is known for pioneering what became known as the 'Schilder Technique'. A technique revolutionizing root canal treatment. This is now considered one of the highest clinical standards for root canal treatment worldwide.

Having successfully completed her residency in 1995 she returned home and in 1997 opened her private practice in Chelmsford. Dr. Mirras treats her patients with a gentle care and understanding that has become her hallmark. She continues practicing the technique taught to her by one of the worlds finest.

After moving to Lowell over 20 years ago Mary has worked along side Dr. Mirras since 2000. Mary remains a strong and faithful assistant making patients feel safe and comfortable, assuring them all the way.

After meeting her future husband Nick in 1989, they married in 2001. They continue to reside in Lowell. Her favorite things are reading, dining out, traveling to see her sister in Washington state and spending time with her wonderful husband.

I had a root canal years ago with her and she was incredibly friendly, professional, and even had therapy dogs on site who were all too happy to sit with you while you underwent dental procedures. Wonderful atmosphere, wonderful people, wonderful experience. I intend on having any future procedures done here as well.

I would not consider anyone else but Dr Mirras for a root canal. Her entire office staff is top notch & Dr Mirras is beyond wonderful.

This review is particularly hard for me to write because I have had a really good experience in the quality of care I received from the Doctor and her nurse. They were both very friendly, cautious and attentive to my needs and I had a good time with them. The reason for my poor review however, is only because of their front desk staff and the way she handled my insurance claims and her customer service. To start with she charged me (that I paid) for a combination of 2 or 3 treatments. It was only later when I was trying to file an HSA claim on this amount that I realized that the costs were off and learned that one of my procedures had never been submitted to insurance. I asked them to do so and her first response was that it had already been submitted and insurance had refused to pay for the procedure. Since I did not see any EOB on my insurance portal and the insurance company confirmed that they had never received the claim, I asked her to re-submit the claim which she promptly did. A week later the insurance did pay a portion of the procedure, so clearly whatever happened earlier was a mistake that I was thankful was corrected. So far I chalked this to just an honest mistake / poor communication. Later, when I asked for a refund after the insurance claim came through is when most of my painful conversations began. She issued me only part of the refund and every time I tried to get her to explain the calculation of what I was owed back, I was either given different numbers that did not add up to what was in my EOBs, or alternatively was given an answer of 'We have gone over this multiple times already'. We had never gone over the numbers even once after the insurance claims had come through. Finally I asked for an itemized bill for which I was told she would get back to me. She never did so for almost 2 weeks (one of which was understandably a holiday week and I was willing to wait out) and on one occasion told me that I already had my EOBs and did not need an itemized receipt. I find it hard to believe that their office is so busy (the reason I almost always was given for getting back to me later) that they cannot go over 3 treatments worth of insurance claims and costs and explain them to me for more than a month now. Finally, a month later, I did receive the itemized bill and in the bill I see a line item for a refund that was processed. My assumption is that when she finally did re-run the numbers to produce the itemized bill, she finally realized what I was owed back. The fact that this refund had been processed was never communicated to me and tells me that my calculations had been correct all along. I never received any apology, the front desk staff refused to believe me and made it so hard for me to have them correct their own mistake that it made it an unacceptable experience. Dr. Mirras is a good doctor but this incident will make me never go back unless things change.

First time here and the BEST experience I have ever had at a dentist. I was nervous because I had never had a root canal before. The staff & Dr Mirras made me feel very comfortable and at ease. I highly recommend their care.

Please do not go here!!! The doctor and office -Erin are extremely unprofessional. My husband had a root canal done here by Dr. Mirras and had a terrible experience. He felt pain the whole time and told Dr. Mirras but she continued drilling without making sure his mouth was numb. This scared him away for a year. We tried going back to give her another chance for another root canal and she refused to see him. What doctor refuses to help or see their patient?! We should have learned our lesson the first time and now will be going elsewhere where they actually care about their patients and actually make sure they don't feel anything during the procedure.

Joanne and her staff state they sent mail and tried to contact me regarding a small amount outstanding ($196) on a bill, of which I could have paid then and I'm going to pay now, but there are no messages on my phone, no mail received at my address and I've had no contact with their office in over a year. Today I got a summons to small claims. Upon contacting Joanne's office, their secretary in the most condescending way said it was my fault and they refused payment directly, put me on speaker phone, so a room of people could hear my conversation, which was immature and unprofessional. Don't get caught up with this office, it's not a good experience!

I had a filing done by my regular dentist and it turned into a nightmare, resulting in needing root canal. Before being referred to Dr Mirras, I had never even heard of an Endodontist and was absolutely terrified. However, Dr Mirras was so awesome and her entire staff was so welcoming and friendly. The Dr explained the root canal process to me before the procedure and made me feel at ease. She also asked if I minded if their little office dog sat on my lap during the procedure and it really helped calm down my anxiety and made me feel more comfortable. During the root canal I felt nothing at all, honestly I'd rather get a million root canals than ever see a regular dentist for a routine cleaning. Highly recommend Dr Mirras!!!!

Dr Mirras has a very gentle approach to patients. The office is a calming place for the patient. During the procedure, they will put a dog in your lap which helps to keep you calm. She is also very funny. I would highly recommend her if you need a root canal. She would especially be good for somebody on the autism spectrum like myself.

A month ago I managed to bite down and break off part of a back tooth. My dentist told me I would need a root canal and referred me to Dr. Joanne Mirras. I'd never had a root canal before and was not looking forward to it, nor did I know Dr. Mirras. When I arrived at my appointment Dr. Mirras explained what she was going to do that day and that she and her assistant, Mary, would take good care of me. They were true to their word from beginning to end. They have a great system and the two of them work extremely well together. My comfort and well-being was clearly important to them, which I appreciated. I was able to relax, shut my eyes and listen to the classic oldies station they had on and let them do what they do best. Dr. Mirras kept me informed as we went along which I also appreciated. I always felt I was in good and capable hands. I honestly cannot emphasize enough how gentle, caring and professional they all were. They treat you with kid gloves. If you were recently told you need a root canal, I highly recommend you see Dr. Mirras.

My ten year old son received a root canal from Dr. Mirras. Her kindness and gentle approach made it a piece of cake. Her assistant Mary was amazing and funny. They also have an adorable dog, Jack, who sat on his lap the entire time. I highly recommend visiting Dr. Mirras if you are in need of a root canal.
