What I love more than anything about being an orthodontist is enhancing the self-image and well-being of my patients. I really enjoy seeing them leave the office feeling better about their appearance. Not only do they have a better bite, but that beautiful smile is the icing on the cake!

It is so fulfilling to know that Ive made a difference in peoples lives. I so enjoy watching the glow on the smiling faces of my patients as they look in the mirror at the time of braces removal. It is such a satisfying and rewarding experience for both me and my patients.

Orthodontics is truly a fun profession. I really enjoy hearing the laughter of our patients when we joke with them. We love to deliver excellent treatment with a dash of humor so our patients really feel at home. After all, we love to see our patients smile!

I completed my dental education at Loyola University in New Orleans, graduating with my Doctorate of Dental Surgery as valedictorian of my class. I thenpursued my orthodontic degree at the University of Washington in Seattle where I graduated with a Master of Science degree in Dentistry. During my studies I was honored with 'Outstanding Thesis Award.'

Every year, I attend many continuing education courses in all aspects of orthodontic and dental treatment, so my patients will benefit from the latest advances in my profession. I also provide continuing education lectures to dental society members regarding various aspects of integration of treatment in the orthodontic and general dental disciplines.

Originally from New Orleans, I have lived and worked in San Diego with my wife Annelle for the past 38 years. When Im not in the office, I surround myself with music by playing the organ, guitar, and trumpet. I enjoy working with computers, traveling, reading about history, and keeping fit.

I also believe it is important that children grow up with morals and guidance in a secular society. I enjoy making peoples lives better by sponsoring church activities in the El Cajon and San Diego communities.

I am responsible for the financial aspect of our patients orthodontic treatment, including accounts payable and receivable, contracts, insurance billing, and all financial transactions. Since joining the team in 1987, I have come up with many creative ways to solve problems. Mostly, I want the financial side of our patients treatment to be as hassle-free as possible. Im always on the go, with many hobbies and interests, including weight training, upkeep on my two Corvettes and a Mini Cooper Turbo, interior decorating and landscaping, art, and classical music. I also have three pugs Pepoon, Toodie, and Lacey to keep me company.

I began my dental career in 1979 and had the pleasure of working with Dr. Miroue since 1991. I assist him during all phases of treatment... from brace placement and adjustments to delivering retainers after treatment. I just love answering questions that our patients may have regarding their treatment progress and making them feel at home during their stay at our office. There is nothing more gratifying than seeing the expression on the faces of our patients when they look in the mirror at their new smile after we remove their braces. When not in the office, I enjoy hiking and biking with my husband and two children.

I assist Dr. Miroue with all aspects of our patients orthodontic treatment. While Ive only recently joined the team, I began working in the dental field in 2007. Seeing the improvement in our patients smiles and getting to know such a wide range of personalities are just two of the reasons I love working here. Im very glad to be a part of this team! My husband and I have two wonderful children, Bently and Taylee. We love the outdoors and can often be found fishing, snowboarding, hunting, playing golf, or hikin

Don't worry! Braces aren't nearly as scary as you may think. In fact, braces today come in a variety of styles, materials, and colors, making life with braces much easier, more comfortable, and even more stylish than in the past.

  • Early treatment Early treatment allows orthodontists to monitor the growth of the jaw and recommend further orthodontic treatment if it becomes necessary. Not everybody receives early orthodontic treatment; in some cases it may be recommended that a patient wait to receive treatment.
  • What needs correction The amount of treatment needed to correct a problem will determine how long the process takes. Different patients react to treatments differently. While it may take one patient only 12 months to complete treatment, it may take another patient 24 months. Treatment times can vary depending on how quickly your body responds and how much work is needed to give you the show-stopping smile you expect.
  • YOU! Your willingness to use the appliances your orthodontist gives you plays a major role in the length of time it takes to complete your treatment. Always remember to take care of your braces and appliances; this truly will help make your treatment shorter!
  • Orthodontic braces are a big part of life for many people your age. While braces may have had a bad reputation in the past, today's braces make it easy to look good and feel good! Please contact our practice to schedule your next orthodontic checkup.

Orthodontic treatment is no longer just for teens. In fact, the American Association of Orthodontists states that one in five orthodontic patients is over the age of 21. Many adults are choosing to receive treatment because they understand the importance of maintaining their health, and they want to feel better about their appearance. Adults everywhere are taking advantage of the opportunity to receive orthodontic care, and now you can too.

For many adults, the thought of having metal braces is enough to discourage them from receiving treatment. However, today's orthodontic treatment options offer a variety of braces and appliances that are comfortable, aesthetic, and customized to meet your needs. Types of braces include:

The main difference to remember when treating adults or children and teens, is that in younger patients the jawbones are still developing. For adults, these bones have stopped growing, which may mean the possibility of orthognathic surgery to align the jawbones. Other differences include:

  • Gum or bone loss (periodontal disease) Adults are more likely than children to experience gum recession or even bone loss due to gingivitis or advanced periodontal disease. Patients with straighter teeth are less likely to get gum disease.
  • Worn or missing teeth Over time teeth can become worn down and shift into different positions that can only be corrected with orthodontic care. Missing teeth can cause other teeth to shift and tilt, creating a bad bite and increasing the possibility of gum disease.
  • Incomplete orthodontic treatment as a teen Many adults received some orthodontic treatment as a child or teen, but never completed their treatment. As an adult, they choose to complete their orthodontic treatment to achieve the healthy, beautiful smile they always wanted.
  • Our practice also recognizes that adults and children have different needs, and require a different level of attention and care. We will work with you to ensure that you receive the most appropriate treatments, and that your needs are met with understanding and respect from us.
