I grew up in a household of doctors. My dad is an orthopedic surgeon, and my mom is a pediatrician. I loved that they were able to take care of people, but nothing in the medical field seemed just right for me. When I was 20, my little sister Hayley was playing in the driveway, and our concrete basketball hoop fell, sideswiping her on the way down. She was lucky that she wasn't more hurt - she needed some stitches on her upper lip and eyebrow, and she knocked out the bottom half of her two front teeth. After our visit to the ER, our dentist came in the middle of the night and bonded her front teeth back together. Hayley was about 12 and had just started to care about how she looked, and she was thrilled that she was back to normal in no time. It was at this moment that I realized dentistry was a perfect way to care for people. I could build long-lasting relationships with people as a primary care provider and also do fun surgeries and work with my hands. It allows for great relationships, a little excitement, and problem-solving.Dr. Katherine Part
Dr. Part graduated from the Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in 2013. It is well known for having a program that is strong in many ways, including caring for patients with complex medical backgrounds, prosthodontics like crowns and bridges, and periodontics (which focuses on the health of the gums and supporting bone). During her residency at the VA Medical Center in Charleston, SC, she practiced weekly with oral surgeons and trained in prosthodontics as well. She learned how to use a digital scanner and CEREC so she could design and mill crowns chairside. She also made her first TAP appliance, a kind of mandibular advancement device that aids in the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea. She especially liked working in concert with the psychiatry team, oncologists, and other key providers in her patients journeys toward health and happiness.
Dr. Part lives with her partner Peter and his two children, who she says add a lot of love, joy, and excitement to her life. They love playing board games, street soccer, and ultimate frisbee together, and they also like to spend a lot of time outdoors, whether this involves skiing, hiking, camping, or canoeing.
