Dr. Mills is a general dentist who graduated from the Medical University of South Carolina in 2001 and completed an Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency program. Following graduation, Dr. Mills was a dentist in the NAVY for four and a half years with tours in Norfolk, VA, Parris Island, SC and Guam. Dr. Mills post-doctorate training was in all areas of general dentistry. She has also completed certification in Invisalign for straightening teeth without braces.
Dr. Mills is an active member of the American Dental Association, Academy of General Dentistry, the Virginia Dental Association, Big Lick Study Club and the Roanoke Valley Dental Society. Dr. Mills was the program coordinator for the Roanoke Valley Dental Society from 2007-2008.
Drs. Mills and Shannon have been married since 1998 and have two sons. When they moved to Salem, they were associate dentists for about two years. They began their own private practice following the retirement of Drs. Ison and Harris in January of 2008.

Dr. Shannon's post-doctorate training was in all areas of general dentistry. He also completed an additional ten-month apprenticeship with an oral and maxillofacial surgeon.
Becky graduated from Virginia Western Community College in 1977. Becky oversees our Butler Gum program making sure we have the best home care products available to our patients. She loves research, hiking, gardening, and collecting. Becky lives in Salem with her husband Bill and her cute dog Bonnie. She also has a son, William, who is a Virginia Tech graduate. Becky's love of research keeps our hygiene department cutting edge. We are fortunate to have such a well-educated, compassionate and gentle hygienist!
Caitlin graduated from Virginia Western Community College in Spring of 2016. She joined our team in September 2016, Caitlin came to us after a couple of months of temping as a hygienist right after college. We enjoy Caitlin's kind and outgoing personality and she truly works from her heart. She enjoys getting to know all of her patients and helping them improve their oral health. In her free time, she loves being with her family, husband Alex, and her two dogs Booboo and Bella.
Taylor joined our team in June 2017 as lead scheduling coordinator and has accepted the position of office manager. Prior to entering the dental field, she practiced emergency medicine. She became certified her senior year of high school in 2012 and practiced and studied throughout college. Taylor and her fiance bought their first house together in Salem. Outside of work, Taylor is dedicated to fitness and travel. Recently becoming PADI scuba certified. She greets each patient with a smile and is always ready to help. Our team and patients are very fortunate to have her leading us at the front office.
Debbie joined our team in 2018 as the insurance coordinator. She comes to us with 27 years of experience in medical billing and insurance knowledge from Carilion. Debbie is a true asset to our office. She is here to explain treatment and insurance coverage to our patients. Debbie has an outstanding work ethic, attention to detail, and a positive outlook. When she isn't working, she enjoys her children, her dog Garst, the outdoors, and collecting squirrels!
Ciara joined our practice in April of 2019. She knew since the age of 8 she wanted to be in dentistry and in 2016 she took her first job as a hygiene assistant later advancing to chairside assistant. She recently moved to Roanoke with her two dogs, Sasha and Jessie, and anytime outside of work you can find her and her pups adventuring the outdoors! Her love for children and kind spirit have made her a delightful addition to our team.
Michelle is Dr. Mills's primary assistant. They have worked together for 2.5 years. Michelle comes to us from Ohio. There she completed a strenuous dental assistant program making her one of the few classically trained assistants in the Roanoke Valley! She graduated at the top of her class.
Our patients know Michelle well. She explains procedures, expected outcomes, and eases their fears every day. She is our assistant for all child restorative work such as fillings and extractions. She is extremely fast and efficient at her clinical position and it is easy to overlook how good she is because Michelle makes it look easy! She is always ready to jump in to help our other team members. Michelle is here to make this practice a happy place for both our patients and the whole team. She is truly a gifted dental assistant and we are incredibly fortunate to have her on our staff.
Courtney joined our team in August of 2020. Courtney recently moved to the Roanoke Valley from Charleston, South Carolina. Courtney attended Horry-Georgetown Technical College where she studied Early Childhood Development. She is incredibly friendly and always willing to help in any way possible. She has enjoyed getting to explore her new home and is excited to meet all our patients. Outside of work, Courtney is busy keeping up with her little boy, Pierce, who loves to play all sports! She also enjoys cooking and exploring the Valley with her fiance. Courtney is new to dentistry but very motivated to learn and provide the best care, we are lucky to have her as part of our team.

Before seeing Dr Shannon, I was terrified of the dentist - even just routine cleanings. I had had bad experiences with dentists and I don't get nervous anymore! The office is friendly, the hygienists are friendly, the doctors are friendly! We love Mills and Shannon!

My crown came off on 11/2 evening. I called early on 11/3 and they gave me an appointment for 1 week but said they would try to get me in earlier. At 230PM they called and asked if I could be there at 330PM. I came in at 330 and I was done by 4pm. They were friendly and very professional. Great staff from Dr Shannon to everyone in his office I highly recommend them
