Dr. James Strawn DDS has lived in Florida most of his life. His parents, both Florida natives, moved back to the state when he was 7. He attended dental school at Virginia Commonwealth University because Florida did not have a dental school. After serving as a dentist in the Air Force for two years, he returned to Florida to open a practice. As a youngster, Okeechobee was the first place he lived. He came to Fort Pierce to shop and fish and had fond memories. When he came down to take the Florida (Dental) Boards, Fort Pierce was one of the first places he looked into and decided it was the perfect place. Dr. Strawn opened his practice over 25 years ago.

Dr. Strawn has watched the field evolve for 37 years. We educated people on theimportance of preventive care,of fluoride and regular checkups, says Dr. Strawn. We now havethe luxury of having time totake care of other emergenciesand repair work. Therehas been an advancement indental materials and we have now high-tech tooth-coloredmaterials and porcelains. The materials are much moreaesthetic. The result is thatwe are able to use porcelainon the front teeth and makethem look brand new, removingcolor defects and defectsin size and shape. It can be a life-changer, getting a straighter, whiter smile so they feel good when theyre out with friends or at work. Remaking a smile is the most satisfying part of my practice.

Dr. Strawn emphasizes a friendly touch and has been in one area his whole practice career. It is not uncommon for Dr. Strawn to treat the kids and grand kids of people he served way back. He deeply values the relationships that have been built, and always welcomes new patients. Its a warm, family atmosphere. The staff are all good friends and theres a nice team spirit that makes people more relaxed. They feel the warmth and caring. That is often missing in the health care field, but not at Midway Dental Center!

  • Dental crowns are one of the many ways to restore your teeth to their natural state. Also called dental caps or covers, they are placed over damaged teeth. Dentists may also use dental crowns to support dental bridges or as a crown to restore dental implants. Once placed, the crown becomes your tooths new outer surface, restoring the normal shape, size, and look of the tooth. Who Needs Dental Crowns? Dental crowns are ideal for patients who have suffered serious damage to the tooth. Besides restoring the tooths strength and structure, they also improve your smile and facial appearance. Dental crowning would be an ideal treatment if: You have discolored teeth You have chipped or cracked teeth Your teeth are misaligned Youve had a root canal Youve lost your teeth through disease or a traumatic injury. Types of Dental Crowns There are several types of dental crowns based on the materials used to make them. Each type has its advantages. Metal Metal dental crowns are ideal for the out-of-sight teeth, especially the molars. However, they tend to cause wearing of the opposing molars. Ceramic Ceramic dental crowns are arguably the best. They are exceptionally strong and offer superb aesthetics. They can bear up to chewing and biting forces just like natural teeth. They also look almost like your natural teeth. Porcelain fused to metal These dental crowns offer both strength and aesthetics. Porcelain fused to metal crowns can work for every tooth, whether it is back or front tooth. If you want dental crowns that deliver a natural look and can stand the test of time, you cant go wrong with porcelain fused to metal crowns. The only shortcoming of these crowns is that the porcelain fused to metal part may chip off, undermining the aesthetics. Is it Painful to Get Dental Crowns? The dentist will administer a local anesthetic to ensure the procedure is as comfortable as possible. You may experience mild toothaches and sensitivity. Painkillers can help you ease the discomfort. If the pain gets worse, dont hesitate to visit a dentist.

I have never in my life experienced such a kind and genuinely helpful staff. From the moment my daughter and I walked into the office we felt right at home. We were greeted and treated with the utmost respect and kindness. They were helpful, knowledgeable, and understanding. Thank you, a million times over, to the staff, and Doctor Strawn. You all are angels sent to earth.

Staff is very nice. I came in for mini implants. I was told to get dentures first and let my mouth heal. Ok. I was presented with a sample of what the dentures would look like. They had metal inserts. I payed him in full . Here is my gripe. I waited 7 months . Sat without teeth all summer. Even while they were on vacation. Now, they said if I could take plastic dentures I could have them in a week. 2 weeks later I got the cheap ones with no rebate. Since they are all plastic a tooth fell off. I went back and was charged 165.00 to have it fixed. bait and switch. Not happy. I should have not have not excepted them . For so long I got terrible a result. Just telling the truth. Staff was nice.

I took my father there. He needed a cleaning. He is 104 and 1/2. They were so accommodating, kind and helpful. What a lovely staff. I was blown away! Not my first time there with him, but the same wonderful experience. Thank you to everyone from the front office to the Hygienist!

My aunt had a appointment to have her teeth cleaned because she had a stain. In the following week My aunt tooth chipped then fell out. She went back to show the dentist now they are asking her to pay almost $500 to fix it!! This is not acceptable at all!! My aunt mentioned while the Doctor was scrubbing her tooth he stopped for a minute... she believes he saw the tooth chipping and didn't tell her. This is unprofessional! This clearly was a mistake on the Dentist part and they should fix it at no charge!!!!! ALSO on the plate she just purchased last year in July is already bent!!! The office is asking for almost $200 to fix. You ask your customers to refer people to your office for shining smiles but my aunt smile isn't shining because of the poor service given. #JamesStrawn

My experience with Midway Dental was a seriously wonderful surprise. We moved back to Florida three years ago after being away for 7 years and had to reestablish with a new dentist. In Port St. Lucie, trying to get in to see a dentist for a mere cleaning was a nightmare. I finally found one, but had to "establish" myself as a patient. After a full set of x-rays and being heavily marketed to for Invisaligns, I was told that they didn't have time for a cleaning and their first appointment was 6 months out. Of course this dentist had all the bells and whistles -- my bill explained why -- and I came away feeling like just another nameless, faceless number. Fast forward. Today, I went in to see Dr. Strawn's team after determining that I couldn't continue to see the other dentist. What a difference! This is dental care the personal, old-fashioned, caring way. I watched as the receptionist interacted with such compassion with two patients who had issues. My hygienist, Amie, went above and beyond for me. And Dr. Strawn was what the medical field lacks right now...an approachable, no-nonsense doc with an caring, affable, gentle demeanor. He welcomed me to his practice and I came away wishing that all doctors practiced this way. When Dr. Strawn said "welcome to the family," I really believe he meant it.

Every time I visit I leave satisfied. Not only with doctor Strawns work but the staff as well. Everyone is friendly, helpful and makes you comfortable. I first had my tooth pulled and he did a great job, no pain at all. Today I did a teeth filing, again no pain. It was fast and affordable. Highly recommended, 5 stars no questions asked.

I currently live in Sarasota and drive all the way to Fort Pierce to continue to see them which says a lot. I've moved around a lot over the years and have had to have a lot of work done on my teeth, and I haven't had better care and service than I have at Midway Dental. All staff is incredibly kind and helpful. The windows that bring in natural light makes sitting in a dentist chair much more comfortable as well.

Just came home from my appointment to replace a 25 yr old crown. This was my third visit to Midway Dental. All of the staff us caring and very professional. They were recommended by my oral surgeon to "install" my implant. Then I had my teeth cleaned. And finally today's appointment. No upselling services. I'm self-pay so I always ask for an estimate. Their prices are very reasonable. I hate going to the dentist but I'm glad I found Dr Stawn and his staff.
