Midvale Family Dental | Dr. Ryan S. McNeil - General dentist in Midvale, UT

I began my career in dentistry as a dental assistant in 1988 in my home state of New York. I loved learning new things and meeting new people everyday. My favorite part of being a dental assistant was helping people feel more relaxed in the dental office and helping them have a positive experience. I have enjoyed working with Dr. McNeil because he goes the extra mile to provide excellent dental care and is above all concerned about their oral health and overall well-being. In addition to working 25 years in the dental field, I have a passion for fitness, I am a fitness instructor and personal trainer which I enjoy just as much as helping people with their dental health.

My main goal is to make sure our patients feel comfortable and welcome each and every time they come to our office. I enjoy interacting with our patients and making them feel comfortable while receiving treatment to relieve their headache and migraine pain. I also enjoy seeing the steps of progression throughout their case, whether it is small or large. I love the atmosphere that Dr. McNeil and our team have created; it is nice to work with kind and helpful people that want you to succeed in life, both personally and professionally. I am currently a student attending Salt Lake Community College. When I have free time, I really enjoy outdoor activities and spending time with my family.

As a dental hygienist, I am responsible for patient screening procedures, cleanings, and education about proper oral hygiene habits by teaching how to properly brush and floss. My favorite part about my job is getting to know my patients individually and helping them improve their oral hygiene and overall health through education. Working with Dr. McNeil makes my job very enjoyable because of his great personality and the undivided attention he gives to his patients. He gets to know his patients on an individual basis and truly cares about helping them better their lives through educating and helping with personal oral needs. I feel very fortunate to be a part of his team. I am married to the love of my life and cherish my time spent with family and friends. I am an outgoing person and enjoy photography and outdoor activities such as boating, mountain biking, running, playing sports, and skiing, just to name a few!

In the frenzy of decisions and preparations you are now faced with, more often than not, dental health is not even given a second thought, but this should not be the case. Cancer treatments such as chemotherapy and radiation often have negative side effects on your mouth and teeth. There are a few steps you can take to minimize the damage and at the same time reduce the unwanted and painful symptoms and complications you will experience.

Visit your dentist to evaluate your dental health and discuss treatment options you should consider. Periodontal disease (gum disease) and tooth decay (cavities) should be treated. In addition discuss what preventive measures you should take, i.e. home care routines, fluoride treatments, antibacterial rinses etc. Prevention is the best medicine.

-Mucositis: Most people will experience some degree of mouth and throat sores. These sores make it difficult to eat, and at a time when proper nutrition is critical. Consult with your dentist or physician about prescription rinses that can help with this problem. These rinses may include some that simply coat and numb the tissues to minimize discomfort and rinses that help minimize the incidence of bacteria and fungal infections, and rinses that help prevent tooth decay and periodontal disease. -Dry Mouth: In addition to increasing the mouth and tongue soreness, dry mouth puts your teeth at greater risk of developing cavities. If you are like most adults and have some degree of gum recession that has exposed the sensitive and venerable roots of the teeth, you will be even more at risk of developing cavities. The decrease in saliva is caused by the effects of the cancer treatments on the salivary glands, and often worsens with additional medications you may need to take. Treatment for the dry mouth may include: oral rinses to minimize the risk of developing tooth decay, rinses to coat and sooth the oral tissues, professionally applied fluoride treatments, and home fluoride treatments. -Infections: Because the cancer treatments will often weaken your immune systemyour bodys natural ability to fight infectionyou will be more susceptible to infections in your mouth. Treatment for infections may require you to see your dentist for treatment, antibiotics and antibacterial rinses. The best prevention for infections is maintaining very thorough oral hygiene, i.e. brush at least two times per day, floss at least one time per day, and rinse your mouth often.

After completion of cancer treatments, you should visit your dentist for a check-up and cleaning and to address any problems that may have developed. It is also very important to maintain excellent care of your teeth and mouth through proper brushing and flossing techniques. Your normal saliva flow (spit) may not return for several months or years, so taking continued preventive measures is critical to long term dental health.

Amazing! Great friendly staff! Your teeth feel amazing when cleaned! The are thorough and gentle when cleaning! We bring in our 6 kids and they all look forward to going to the dentist! Before finding their office my kids had developed a lot of cavities! They were great with even my young kids. They are conservative and honest with treatment suggestions! We love their service and highly recommend them for all your dental care.

It's a wonderful experience each time. Dr. Mc Neil took care of a broken chipped tooth for me on a holiday. I am so grateful he was willing to help me. I've brought myself and my young son for regular check-ups and cleanings. They do a great job with both of us each time!

I was excited about this dentist because of all the AMAZING google reviews. The dentist was okay, but the BIGGEST problem I had was the charge. I triple checked with them about my insurance. They assured me it was all covered and that they called and had all the information they needed. All said and done, I owed a LOT. All my previous dentists I have been to are 100% covered as preventative care, but for some reason, this one was not that way. I went back and forth with them with no real resolution as to why I was assured it was covered and then it was NOT. If you go here, be sure to check as they will not tell you how much is actually owed until days AFTER you visit.
