Robert Shoun grew up in the Midlands, starting out in Columbia, then moving to Lexington County, graduating from Lexington High School in 1991. Dr. Shoun received his BS in Biology from the College of Charleston and his doctorate in dental medicine from the Medical University of South Carolina. Upon completing his doctorate, Dr. Shoun completed a General Practice hospital residency at Palmetto Health Richland Hospital, following which he practiced as a General Dentist in West Columbia, with a focus on childrens dentistry. It was during this time that he realized he wanted to further his education in the field of Pediatric Dentistry. He was accepted into the Pediatric Dentistry Specialty program at the University of Tennessee, where he began his studies in 2006. During his specialty training, his education focused on dental growth and development, caring for the anxious child, as well as caring for patients with special health care needs often in the hospital setting. He also had the privilege of treating children at St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital as part of his specialty training. Dr. Shoun returned to Lexington where he has been practicing pediatric dentistry since 2008. He is now excited to be opening his own private practice, Midlands Pediatric Dentistry, where he will continue to provide outstanding care and attention to children in a setting designed to make children comfortable and encourage good dental health.
Dr. Shoun is board certified by the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. He is a member of the College of Diplomates of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry, the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, South Carolina Society of Pediatric Dentists, MUSC Alumni Association, and Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society.

The staff at Midlands Pediatric Dentistry are wonderful with my special needs daughter. They know how to make my daughter feel comfortable, and not scared to go to the dentist. Now Dr. Should is the best dentist EVER!!!!! Dr. Should is caring and compassionate and knows how to make my daughter feel good about coming to the dentist.

Dr. Shaun & his staff are absolutely the best. My children have been patients there for 7 years now. They are always friendly & they take their time with each child. They get to know them & provide to their individual needs. I highly recommend Midlands Pediatric Dentistry.

We couldn't make an appointment one time, had to cancel. When we called to make another appointment they said we'd have to find another dentist because we didn't show up. That's simply not true. What if it was an emergency? Blame the patient? Beyond ridiculous & unprofessional. They were also rude on the phone. Edit for the reply: I am not the patient, my son is. We have different last names.

Wonderful staff! I had a hiccup with childcare, so had to bring along all 4 of my wild and crazy boys for the oldest 2 to have their teeth cleaned. It was chaotic and my imaginations "worst care scenario" behavior wise with the young ones, and I was met with so much patience and grace. The sweet woman who did the boys cleanings was so gentle and encouraging for their first cleaning that they were comfortable and confident sitting in the dental chair. While I was checking out at the desk another staff member occupied them with conversation, and doing everything she could to distract the boys while I settled my bill, without making me feel the "hot mess" I 100% was lol. Overall great experience with a less than desirable arrangement walking in the door! Thank you all!

We always have amazing experiences with the office and staff! My one year old was terrified her first appointment and today was her next try (a couple weeks before three). It went fantastic!! They talked her through everything and let her touch things first. She left saying "I love the dentist!" We adore Midlands Pediatric Dentistry!!

We loved it! The building the decor and the service. Very kid friendly. Dr shoun and his assistant very professional kind caring truthful and actually talk to you and give options if needed. No kid child was crying in there and all came out smiling! Thumbs up! Stress free!

My 2 year old daughter had a wonderful experience at Midlands Pediatric Dentistry! Dr. Shoun and his staff were able to make her first time at the dentist fun while giving her a thorough exam and cleaning. They are patient and enthusiastic! We look forward to the next visit:)

We followed this dentist when he left Wild Smiles. We absolutely love him and the staff is so amazing. Everyone is very friendly and makes for great visits with the kiddos. We have been seeing this dentist for the last 11 years!
