Dr. Brian P. Midgette is a native of Chesapeake, Virginia and a graduate of Western Branch High School. He attended Old Dominion University, graduating with honors in 1984 with a B.S. in Biology. He knew early on his desire to work in the field of dentistry, working during high school and college in a local orthodontic laboratory. His hard work and experience paved the way for an early entry into the Medical College of Virginia School of Dentistry, where he graduated with honors.

Dr. Midgette embarked on his career in dentistry, which culminated in a private practice dedicated to excellence. Dr. Midgette dedicates himself to furthering his career by seeking countless hours of advanced continuing education courses. He is an active member of the American Dental Association and the Academy of General Dentistry and he participates in several local dental study clubs. He is committed to providing high quality, compassionate care to all.

Dr. James W. Baker is a native of Portsmouth, Virginia and a graduate of Churchland High School. He attended Virginia Military Institute, graduating as a Distinguished Military Graduate with a B.S. in Biology. Before high school, Dr. Baker established the goal of attending dental school and he graduated with honors from the Medical College of Virginia School of Dentistry. Following dental school, Dr. Baker served a General Practice Residency at Brooke Army Medical Center and then satisfied his commitment to the U.S. Army by commanding the dental clinic at Seneca Army Depot in New York.

Dr. Baker entered private practice in the Churchland area in 1976. He has earned both a Fellowship and Mastership in General Dentistry with the Academy of General Dentistry, is a past president of the Tidewater Dental Association, and has been selected for fellowship in the International College of Dentists and the American College of Dentists.

Dr. Kelly Paxton comes a long way from her hometown in Michigan. She earned her B.S. in Biology at University of Detroit Mercy, where she also participated in Division I Track and Field for four years. She continued her education at University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry where she received her D.D.S. degree. Born and raised in Michigan, Kelly decided to continue her dental career in Virginia here at Midgette Family Dentistry and has been a part of the team for over five years now.

She enjoys the laid-back lifestyle and warmer climate of the Hampton Roads area. In her spare time, she enjoys running and exploring Virginia. Dr. Paxton takes personal interest in educating her patients on achieving and maintaining superior dental health. She gains tremendous satisfaction from working to improve her patients smiles and, as a result, their confidence and happiness. She is a member of the American Dental Association and Academy of General Dentistry and is involved with local dental organizations.

Dr. Ryan C. Shuck is a native to Central Virginia. He attended Christopher Newport University, graduated with a B.S. in Business Administration Management. He lived in San Diego, where he followed his dream to surf the West Coast. He attended San Diego State University, completed his pre-dental curriculum, and served as the marketing director for the student dental association. He was active in the local San Diego community and volunteered at Saint Leos Dental Clinic which provided dental education and treatment to underserved children and women. Dr. Shuck received his D.D.S from The University of Michigan School of Dentistry, where he received special training in CAD/CAM dentistry and extractions. He volunteered at the Jackson Penitentiary providing dentistry for the inmates and volunteered at Bay Cliff Summer Camp helping children with special needs. And yes, he still made time to surf the Great Lakes and take road trips with his family!

While in undergrad, Dr. Shuck fell in love with Hampton Roads area due to his passion for the ocean and surfing. During undergrad, Dr. Shuck became intrigued with dentistry when he and his brother provided dental services during the Missions of Mercy event on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. Dr. Shuck believes the greatest benefit he can provide as a dentist is educating and motivating his patients to maintain outstanding oral health especially for the children. Dr. Shuck understands life presents many challenges and opportunities, he takes great pride in the opportunity to help you restore your oral health and confidence whether it be as simple as teeth whitening, teeth straightening with Invisalign, or more complex full mouth reconstruction requiring a team approach. He is committed to listening to your concerns and restoring your confidence to smile.

Dr. Shuck and his family returned to Virginia to escape the long Michigan winters and to be close to his family and the ocean so his daughter can grow up with a passion for riding waves like him. He takes great pride in protecting and advocating for the environment and the beaches we all enjoy. The biggest joy in his life is raising his daughter and experiencing the world through her eyes.

When you visit our office for the first time and every time thereafter, you will observe our friendly attitude, comfortable atmosphere and prompt service. Our Patient Care Coordinators are eager to provide you the care you deserve from the first call you place to our practice. They offer flexible scheduling and can answer your financial and/or insurance questions while providing the various payment options you may need to make your dental needs or goals a reality. Their helpful manner translates into the kind of experience that our patients deserve and will keep them coming back for generations to come.

Our team of highly qualified and experienced Dental Hygienists perform gentle, yet thorough scaling, cleanings and polishing of your teeth. They have all been practicing for several years and work hard to teach and motivate our patients in proper oral hygiene and preventive care. In our practice, we feel it is most important to prevent dental disease and to diagnose problems at an early stage when they are the most easily treated. Continuing Education is a high priority in our office.

Our Dental Assistants are vital members of our dental health team. They assist our dentist in providing treatment to our patients. All of our assistants strive for excellence and efficiency while at the same time they are personable and friendly with excellent communication skills. Each enjoys caring for others and demonstrating compassion and empathy. Our assistants routinely attend dental meeting and conferences to update their skills and to learn new dental techniques.

I needed a root canal done and my normal dentist doesnt do them. I was referred to Midgette Family Dentistry by several friends. I called and they got me in the next day. They did my root canal the same day. It can be a very scary procedure but it was pretty painless. Dr. Midgette explained everything to me before he did it and as he was doing it. They may just have gained a new patient for good. The entire staff was wonderful!

I have been going to Dr Midgette as long as he has been in business (he took over my prior dentist, Dr Turner). I stayed because of my hygienist; she is a good friend of the family. Unfortunately she just retired but I have stayed continued to go there; everyone has always been nice and make me feel welcome.

Most thorough and professional dentist office ever! I am a new patient but was in pain they saw me 2 days later and did a root canal the same day. They explained everything to me so clearly and made me feel comfortable. This is truly the best dentist office I have ever been to and I have too much experience.
