An OMS also known as oral and maxillofacial surgeon is the surgical expert of the dental profession. OMSs extensive education and training, surgical expertise and understanding of esthetics and function qualify them to treat diseases, defects, injuries and esthetic aspects of the mouth, teeth, jaws and face.

During their residency program, OMSs train alongside medical residents in internal medicine, general surgery and anesthesiology. They spend time in otolaryngology (ear, nose and throat), plastic surgery, emergency medicine and other specialty areas. Some oral and maxillofacial surgeons even earn an additional graduate or medical degree.

Oral and maxillofacial surgeons train extensively with anesthesiologists for your safety and comfort. No other medical or dental specialty requires this training, which makes an OMS qualified to administer sedation and general anesthesia.

*Original review around March 2021- edited Oct 2022* Very nice and clean office. Staff seemed very pleasant (limited interaction due to Covid). Lisa, the hygentist, was very sweet and did a great job assisting the doctor. I had a back tooth that was cracked (for quite a while, but no pain). Then I started having severe pain in several areas of my mouth and face. I was concerned I possibly had trigeminal neuralgia considering there was no pain at the site of the broken tooth. Having it pulled was the first step in determining if that was the source. Dr. Ashfri did a great job. I think he's very good at what he does. However, his bedside manner is another story. My referring doctor said Dr. Ashfri would do another set of advanced x-rays before having surgery and could give me more info on another tooth that possibly needed a root canal (since his x-rays were more high tech.) However, after the x-rays, I tried asking him questions and he brushed me off and said to discuss it with my regular dentist. He didn't even say goodbye when he was finished and I never received a follow up call to see how I was doing. If you're the type that could give a hoot about bedside manner, then I would definitely recommend him based on his skills. In the end, the tooth was the source of all my pain and I'm grateful to God it wasn't trigeminal neuralgia!

I had to have a pretty major procedure done and from my consultation before and my check up following the Dr and staff are just amazing! So polite, helpful and good with patients. The one thing I remembered was how sweet and understanding they were with me having such bad anxiety the day of surgery.. they talked me through everything, offered breaks and checked on me many times during to make sure comfortable. Overall I give this office 5 stars!! Great staff, amazing doctors and beautiful clean office!! Thanks Dr. Ashrafi!!

Middlebrow Oral Surgeons is a great team of workers who will make u feel comfortable and safe. I had a follow up question about some medication that I received after my wisdom teeth removal. They were very quick to answer and helped me out perfectly. The wisdom teeth removal was also amazing they did a good a job of going through the whole process of it. Including the risk and also how to maintain myself afterwards. If you are looking at a S class business to work on your teeth with. They would be one.

The appreciation I have for the staff and Dr. is beyond my words! Everyone was happy, caring and compassionate with professionalism and knowledgeable! The office was a welcoming setting, the receptionist was absolutely wonderful! I was called in and all the staff went way above and beyond the scope of any office duties. I was extremely, extremely nervous; I was told every step, everyone had the most patience with me I have ever seen. Dr. A came in, told me the process, explained my health, and the aftercare. Even after telling me, I was told every step as it happened. The extraction was effortless ..it was almost like he knew what he was doing - his joke :) - Even though I couldn't talk, I was part of the conversations, got to hear good "Dad jokes" and seen the Dr. supporting the staff! It was a great distraction and kept me relaxed, after the procedure the information packet was explained in depth, and we said our goodbyes. From checking in to walking out was roughly 30 minutes. This in an office that genuinely cares, I have never seen a provider that had such a wholesome and healthy work environment that felt more like a loving family, BUT still remained professional! Overall, I was educated, understood and comfortable! Thank you Middleboro OMS!

I have just about had everything possible dental procedure out there. But I am still terrified of the dentist. My sister has always worked as the assistant to the dentist I use to go to until he retired last year. So my fear of dentist and not having my sister there to hold my hand I was really scared. Kayleigh was super nice and explained everything step by step it was great. Super nice personality and interacted with me and the Dentist. They work great together. Dr. Alireza was great he explained what to expect and I even asked for 3 shots of novacane which he gave me no questions asked. Although the shots were not pleasant I had no pain what so ever and the extraction literally took 8 seconds to take out. I spent last 6 months suffering with this tooth and being too scared to go to dentist. It was over in 8 seconds amazing. He was very calm and hummed a song the entire extraction. I don't like to spend any additional time at the dentist and this experience was get in get out. I would recommend Middleboro Oral Surgeons to everyone.

Up for 2 nights with excruciating tooth pain, I was refereed to this practice by my primary dentist who wasn't able to squeeze me in. All was well until the secretary told me NOT to take my prescribed medication. Initially confused, I questioned this? Why are you telling me not to take a medication prescribed to me and WHAT medication are you planning on giving me that would interact with the medication prescribed to me? I have never required anymore then novocaine for routine dental care. To my utter dismay, BOTH the secretary and dentist told me that Middleboro Oral Surgeon would not be able to treat me, due to the fact that I'm "under the influence of a narcotic" and unable to sign a consent form due to my altered status. I was shocked, angry and embarrassed. The phrase "under the influence" refers to impairment, to any degree, of an individual's ability to safely perform the activity in question as a result of the use of alcohol, drugs, or a combination of both. In order to confirm that a person is "under the influence" of any substance, you need to ascertain whether that persons ability to safely make decisions is indeed impaired. You cant just accuse someone of being under the influence. Thats not how it works. In the 26 years I have been taking my prescribed medication, no-one has ever accused me of being under the influence of any substance OR questioned my ability to make an informed decision. This policy is flawed and it is discriminatory. For a doctor to accuse me of being under the influence as a result of me taking my prescribed medication is oxymoronic. As a patient, I have always been advised to be forthright about any medications I take. This policy could result in catastrophe if patients begin to lie about their medication(s) in order to be treated. My recommendation: Instead of insulting people, perform an on-site assessment checklist upon a prospective patients arrival. I am a healthy (albeit with bad teeth) and physically active 41 year old female of sound mind. SHAME ON YOU for making me feel like I am anything less.
