Dr. Steven Grater, a native of Lancaster County, did his post - high school education at Juniata College and Temple University School of Dentistry. Following graduation from dental school in 1993, he completed a residency in general dentistry at York Hospital for one year. In the summer of 1994, he started private practice with Dr. Friedman. Dr. Grater enjoys treating children, utilizes nitrous oxide for patient comfort and loves to see patient's reaction to their cosmetic dentistry results.
To stay up-to-date on the latest advancements in dentistry, he too is a member of the American Dental Association, the Pennsylvania Dental Association and the Harrisburg Area Dental Society, and attends countless hours of continuing education in dentistry. He has served as the president of the Harrisburg Area Dental Society and 5th District Dental Society, as well as being the chairman of the Pennsylvania Dental Association government relation committee for 5 years and continues to be active in support of dentistry through the State legislature.
In his personal life, Dr. Grater loves to fish and play golf. He also enjoys watching all sports and despite being a lifelong Minnesota Vikings fan, has become a Philadelphia Eagles season ticket holder. His two sons, Miles, an Eagle scout and Computer science major at Elizabethtown College and Axel, a pre-med/dental major at Juniata College and goalie for the Juniata soccer team are his favorite subjects out of dentistry. Dr. Grater also enjoys travelling with his wife, Jackie, to warm and cold destinations.
Dr. Ryan Williams graduated cum laude from The Ohio State University College of Dentistry in 2013. After receiving his doctorate he began a general practice residency at the University of Utah Medical Center where he received training in oral surgery, endodontics, pediatric dentistry, and worked with medically compromised and special needs patients. Dr. Williams is a member of the American Dental Association and enjoys removable prosthetics and restorative dentistry. In his personal life, Dr. Williams enjoys running, mountain biking, and traveling with his family.
Dr. Matthew Sandusky is pleased to join our talented dental team to help serve the dental needs of our community. He was born and raised in York County and graduated from Central York High School. Dr. Sandusky went on to earn a Bachelor of Science at West Chester University of Pennsylvania. He received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Maryland School of Dentistry in 2018. After dental school, Dr. Sandusky completed a one year general practice residency at York Hospital where he was able to receive comprehensive training in restorative, pediatric and special needs dentistry. He was also trained in many oral surgery practices including placement and restoration of dental implants. He is certified to administer nitrous sedation for children, as well as the anxious patient.
Dr. Sandusky enjoys learning all the latest techniques in dentistry. He is a member of the American Dental Association, Pennsylvania Dental Association, Harrisburg Area Dental Association and the Academy of General Dentistry. He is always participating in continuing education to better himself so that he can provide the best care possible.
Outside of dentistry, Dr. Sandusky is proud to be an Eagle Scout and plans to stay involved in community service and outreach. He enjoys running, boating and playing recreational sports. He is delighted to be a member of this community and happy to treat all of your dental needs.

Talk about having nothing short of the best possible experience at your dentist's office!! My hygienist (Jen) made the dentist visit an absolute great appointment! Really great place to go. They are great at there jobs and are very good on time. When u are scared of the dentist, needles really. They make all your trouble melt away. Didn't even feel the needle at all! Would highly recommend them to any body, also my family or friends!

Had my 2nd visit today and the staff and my hygienist are awesome. I so appreciate all that have done thusfar. I am so happy with my new dental office Mid State Dental. Very friendly and very professional. The office looks great as well.

Quick service, great and friendly staff. My hygienist, Sandy always does a wonderful job and is very personable yet professional. The Dentists that I have seen have been very nice and knowledgeable.

Love my dentist Dr.Grater! He's the best! All my family goes because he's personable, funny and his office staff are nice as well. I have been treated by the other dentist in the office on occasion and they are great too!

My previous dentist retired and referred me to this practice. This practice is good...I like the provided care. However, every time I end up waiting in the waiting area for nearly 30 minutes past the scheduled appointment time. Only after I ask when I will be seen do I go back. I never experienced this at my old dentist so I find it exceptionally disconcerting. I am starting to consider just showing up 30 minutes late each appointment

Even in this pandemic era, check-in was a breeze. The support staff is terrific, and makes sure all your questions are answered and needs met. Dr. Grater is a top-notch dentist, and made great improvement in overall dental needs.

Our family first entered their office over 24 years ago. A friend shared about their annual free dental clinic. We had 6 kids and no dental insurance, so we gave them a try. We were blown away with the uplifting attitude and care they provided. We continued coming to the free clinic the next 6 years. When my husband changed jobs, it included dental insurance. It was a no-brainer as to our choice. My kids loved all the dentists and hygienists-- that's high praise coming from kids!! Three years ago our youngest finished college and moved to Massachusetts; we've gone from a family of 8 to a family of 2. We have moved 90 minutes away to West Virginia and both of us have retired. But it's still a no-brainer. We love the care, attention, genuine concern and excellent care! From the front desk, to billing, to hygienists, to dentists-- we love them all!!

Mid State Dental is great! Recently expanded and remodeled. Everyone is personable and treat you like family. They do Invisalign treatment.

I do not have enough good words to say about Mid State Dental. Recently my toddler had a dental emergency and the receptionist RAN to ask which one of the dentists could care for my child - she was out of breath when she came back to the phone! They told me to come right away. Dr. Grater saw her immediately and gave us all of the necessary information in order to care for our child. Numerous staff people there went out of their way to care for my toddler, but also to show compassion toward the upset adults accompanying the child. Dr. Grater called me at home in the evening afterward to check on my child. They went so far above and beyond. We are forever grateful to everyone there.
