He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology and he has held faculty positions at both the University of the Pacific (UOP) and the University of California at San Francisco (UCSF) schools of dentistry. He is currently in full-time private practice where in addition to providing the full scope of periodontal treatment, he has developed particular interest and expertise with implants, soft tissue grafting, conscious sedation, laser surgery and preventive dental care.
A native Californian, Dr. Beckstead grew up in the bay area and he attended local schools. His college pursuits took him to Brigham Young University (BYU) where he received a bachelors degree in biology. He followed his fathers footsteps by choosing a career in dentistry. He graduated with honors from the University of Southern California (USC) School of Dentistry. Upon graduation, he was accepted into a General Practice Residency at the VA hospital in West Los Angeles. It was during his residency that he developed a real interest in periodontics. He went on to postdoctoral specialty training at the University of Washington School of Dentistry where he received his certificate in periodontics.
Dr. Beckstead has been active in the local dental community through continuing education programs. Dr. Beckstead directs the award winning Palo Alto Study Club. The club is an organization of dental professionals who meet together to further their understanding of multi-disciplinary treatment and comprehensive care of patients.
Dr. Michael Nguyen is an experienced periodontist, dedicated to providing gentle and effective care to patients of all dental backgrounds. He believes that excellent oral health begins with education and prevention and has made it his mission to enlighten patients to ways they can take greater control over their own dental health. Dr. Michael Nguyen is committed to continuing education and remaining aware of the latest advancements in oral health and dentistry.
Dr. Nguyen earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree at the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry in San Francisco. Deciding to pursue his passion for the science of periodontology and dental implants, he completed his postdoctoral specialty training and received dual certificates in Periodontology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and from the Birmingham Veterans Affairs Hospital. He is board certified as a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology. He is trained and experienced with intravenous sedation to maximize patient comfort. Continuing education is very important to him, and he spends a considerable amount of time to be at the forefront of periodontology. Dr. Nguyens passion is to bring the very best possible care for his patients.
Dr. Michael Nguyen is a native of the California Bay Area. In his leisure, Dr. Nguyen enjoys an active lifestyle. He enjoys the outdoors, including bicycling and hiking. He is an avid sports fan and cheers on the Bay Areas hockey, baseball, basketball, and football teams. Most of all though, he enjoys spending quality time with his wife and two daughters.
Dr. Beckstead is a specialist in periodontics and implantology. We specialize in preventive and conservative surgical treatment of gum disease including cosmetic procedures to aesthetically enhance your smile, as well as dental implants that can replace single or multiple missing teeth. Have had periodontal cleaning with Mid-Peninsula for past 15 years as well as an implant. My mouth health is now better at 80 than when I started at 65. Current assistant, Mai Trang, that does my cleaning is both very thorough and pleasant to chat with during short breaks.

So my time at MPDS was filled with superstars at every point! The entire front office helped break down the cost of my Wisdom Teeth extraction and kept a very respectful and understanding approach with no pressure to make a decision. Dr Phan and Dental Assistant Jane were really Pros from start to finish. Jane was absolutely hilarious and very attentive, while also totally professional. Her and Dr. Phan made a great team and were able to solve my complicated wisdom tooth situation and always kept me informed of every risk before proceeding. For someone who has had negative dental experiences in the past, this was a real dream team. Thank you!

Dr Beckstead is amazing. I had partial bone loss around one of my teeth and three dentists think that I won't be able to keep it, but Dr Beckstead performed one surgery and saved my tooth. It has been over two years since the surgery and I have not had any more issues with that tooth.

I found Mid-Pen Perio while searching specifically for a periodontics specialist and I struck gold. The building itself is impressive, but the team is why I'm writing this review. I'm actually looking forward to my next prophylaxis. That's a teeth cleaning, and I never would have believed I'd say such a thing. I want to give a special shout out to Cindy, who did a fantastic job on my teeth AND gave me the tools and knowledge to nip gum disease in the bud. Have you ever heard of a Sulcabrush? I have one now, and it's awesome. Look it up. I already recommended my family to Mid Pen Periodontics and I'll be back in a few short months. Highly recommended.
