Root canal therapy, or endodontic therapy, is an oral surgery that is performed to save a tooth from extraction.
Endodontic treatment is done relatively quickly right in the dental chair under the care of Dr. Michael Westman. First, patients are properly sedated and anesthetized before the surgery begins to ensure patients are relaxed and do not feel any discomfort. Then, a hole is made into the tooth which allows the dentist access to the dental pulp inside. The dental pulp, which is a mass of tissues, is removed before the canals are then disinfected. Finally, the dentist will fill the tooth with gutta percha, followed by composite resin bonding. In some instances, the dentist might also fabricate and place a dental crown over the tooth, as it can become weaker after the procedure and more susceptible to damage. The crown offers an extra layer of protection and strength to ensure problems do not occur later on.

Dr. Westman is absolutely excellent! He has exceptional skills and is totally focused on making sure everything he does is perfect and you are happy with the result. He thoroughly explains every step of every single procedure. He is the only dentist I have had who addressed all of the things that affect chewing - posture, position of your bite, etc. Because he also does the dental lab work in his building, he can make whatever adjustments are needed, during your visit. In addition to being unbelievably skilled, he is down-to-earth. He and his staff genuinely care about their patients. Best dental experience ever!

Do your homework and check with your insurance company. The dental hygentist told me my insurance would reimburse me with a check after I paid Dr. Westman. I'm out $1200 for procedures that would have been covered if I had gone to an in network dentist.

When my sleep-specialist physician diagnosed sleep apnea, he recommended that I use a C-PAP machine. I looked into it and talked with friends who had tried to use them. I discovered that they require wearing a cumbersome face mask, tethered to hoses, that were loud and that blew air down my throat all night, and that were susceptible to bacteria and mold buildup. Even if my wife hadn't said that I'd have to sleep in a different room to use the machine, I knew that I'd probably never use one every night. Even though my physician didn't offer any alternatives, I discovered that Dr. Westman treated sleep apnea in an alternative way -- using a custom-fitted, simple, clear plastic appliance that fits over my teeth on both the upper and lower jaws. There are no tubes involved, nor any dry mouth or other side effects. For the past three years of wearing the plastic retainers overnight, I don't snore, I sleep much better, and I don't sleep alone. Thank you Dr. Westman.

Best dentist I have ever gone to visit. I have several fillings & re doing them isn't the best thing in the world, but for the first time I felt no pain having it done. I haven't had any new cavities since coming to Dr. Westman. Additionally, His staff is top rate. I'd recommend to anyone looking to have dental services.

Can't say enough great things about Dr. Westman and his staff. Outstanding professional acumen, sincere care in diagnosis, state-of-the-art technology, providing options, completing the work to provide me a perfect teeth in a very short time and continually following up ....all at a cost that was lower than others I know experienced with their providers. I no longer experience neck pain, am no longer breaking crowns as I was in the past and have received nothing but compliments on my radiant smile. Within days of Dr. Westman completing the work a complete stranger came up to me at a baseball game and remarked on how white my teeth were. I highly recommend his services.
