He has authored numerous articles and several chapters in textbooks on Implants, bone grafting and bone regeneration. Dr. Malmquist also lectures nationally and internationally on implant surgery and bone grafting. He has given more than five hundred major lectures throughout the United States, Europe and Asia. He pursued extensive research on bone physiology and regeneration at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia and is now actively engaged in research protocols in the evolution of bone proteins and bone grafting techniques. The focus of his private practice in Portland, Oregon includes bone grafting, bone regeneration, and dental implant surgery. Dr. Malmquist traveled to Sweden early in his career and trained with the original founder of the concepts of osseointegration and implant reconstruction.
Dr. Malmquist is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, an honor bestowed only after extensive written and oral examinations. He then served as an examiner for the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery for seven years, a honor bestowed on few Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. Dr. Malmquist is on the staff at several Portland-area hospitals providing trauma support for maxillofacial injuries. As a Fellow of the American College of Dentists and the International College of Dentists, he is honored and recognized by his colleagues in dentistry.
He has shared his knowledge with others as a past professor at Oregon Health Science University, contributing to the education of students and residents in the department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
Dr. Malmquist has distinguished himself as the first Treasurer and first President of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons from the Pacific Northwest. The American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons represent more than 8000 surgeons throughout the United States. He has also been honored with visiting professorships at the University of California, University of Tennessee, University of Nebraska, University of Alabama, University of Indiana and the University of Minnesota. He is currently the president of the Academy of Osseointegration.

Following dental school, Dr. Malmquist continued his education/training specializing in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at the prestigious Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, TX. After residency, he spent a full year with Dr. Pedro Franco in Dallas TX, specializing in implant therapy, full mouth reconstruction, orthognathic and temporomandibular joint surgery.
In 2015, Dr. Malmquist returned to Portland, Oregon to work alongside his father Dr. Jay P. Malmquist. In addition to his private practice, Dr. Malmquist has published multiple articles and chapters in peer reviewed journals and textbooks. He has lectured nationally on various topics pertaining to the specialty of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery. He has participated in medical outreach programs to underserved communities both foreign and domestic.
Aside from many interests in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Dr. Malmquist is an avid Oregon Duck and Portland Trailblazer fan. He loves spending time with his family and friends, especially his wife Ida and their daughter Mila.
