Words can't describe our experience with this doctor. Tomorrow will be a week since my daughters dental surgery and I'm still shaking and upset when I remembered what my 9 year old went through with doctor Safian. Let's start at the beginning 1.- Before making the appointment.- I called at least four times to ask what the best option was for my daughter so that she would not feel pain on a traumatic level. The two options were to put her completely under or just partial anesthesia(Novocaine). I was willing to put her under but after asking several times, the lady on the phone said that the doctor felt that for kids( my daughters age ) the best option would be to keep her awake and give her novicaine. So, I asked if they can prescribe maybe something else to help her feel drowsy or sleepy. She said that he couldn't prescribe anything else but they can give her Nitrous(laughing gas) and that help her. So, after much back and forth and much expression of concern, I was assured and reassured that the she wouldn't be in pain during the procedure. With this in mind, we decided to go with Novocaine and nitrous (laughing gas ) 2.- Day of the procedure.- Parents were not allowed to be in the room while the procedure happened ( they didn't tell me that) when I called to make the appointment. I wish someone would have communicated this with me before making the appointment. 3.- During the procedure.- (this was the worst part about it as a mom) My husband and I were in the waiting area and we had to listen to my daughter screaming in the other room . Because the Novocaine WORE OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF SURGERY. The procedure took longer than he originally anticipated and instead of giving her more novocaine he let it wear off. 3.- After Surgery.- When we finally were allowed to go back and see her, my nine year old was shaking and crying because she was in a lot of pain. I asked to speak to doctor Safian to express my frustration of the lack of communication on their part. We went to a different room.He did listen for the first few minutes and after that he lost it on me.... He walked away from the room and yelled at me in front of the receptionist there : His words.- MA' AM I just have to tell you this YOU ARE NOTHING SPECIAL. I have a daughter, this lady right here ( pointing at the receptionist) she has children... YOU'RE NOTHING SPECIAL. While he was yelling at me my daughter was screaming and crying her head off because she was in excruciating pain. ***THEY DIDN'T GIVE HER ANY PAIN MEDICATION POST SURGERY*** ( no Motrin or Tylenol) If you're reading this. DO NOT go there. While the receptionist was kind and attempted to disarm emotion, this doctor displayed a horrible bedside manner. The communication was poor at best and he had no ability to handle a frustrated mother (me) after he failed to properly communicate and set expectations.
