  • Erin Malloy RDH Dental Hygienist Erin Malloy is a registered Dental Hygienist who has been with the practice of Dr. Michael M. Gooding upon graduation from The Community College of Rhode Island in 1998. She is proud to say that, that is long enough to see Dr. Goodings daughter, Dr. Mia Gooding, make her debut two years ago. Erin holds two Associate Degrees, the first being an Associate of Arts, the second, An Associate of Applied Science in Dental Hygiene. Both were earned at CCRI where Erin was also bestowed with the Professionalism Award. This award was voted upon by her professors which represented the students unquestioned integrity coupled with the care and treatment of her patients throughout the program. Erin is also a member of the Rhode Island Dental Hygienists Association as well as the Providence Dental Hygiene Study Club, An Affiliate of Seattle Study Club. Dr. Michael Gooding also provides a series of continuing education classes throughout each year to every member of the dental team. Erin was encouraged to pursue Hygiene by her childhood Dental Hygienist, who spoke highly of the profession, telling her that it was fun and easy, Ha. Although it can be described as both at times, it is more challenging than one might think. Both Doctors expect and accept nothing less than the truth to be given to the patients so that they are well informed and come out of each visit having a better understanding of their individual dental needs. Their message to patients is given with respect and encouragement and lets the patient feel comfortable and confident to proceed with their treatment plan. Erin considers herself a liaison for both the patient as well as the Doctors she is representing. She knows the dental office can be a very scary place for patients, it can be for her as well, she knows, ha. It is all about gaining the patients trust and putting them at ease. Erin loves her patients and has had a lot of laughs getting to know them over the years. When Erin is not at work, you can find her at home with her THREE daughters, trying her best to raise them right, so far, so good. When she is not counting the three strands of hair left on her head, she has a passion for music, playing the drums with a limited audience and doing housework all day, everyday.

  • Barbara Scott Dental Hygienist Barbara graduated from Forsyth School for Dental Hygienists and Northeastern University in Boston Massachusetts. What I love and value most about my job are the one on one relationships that I have built with my patients while educating and promoting healthy dental health practices. I have had two of my patients become inspired enough to become dental hygienists themselves. I believe my willingness to learn and open-mindedness to try new things have helped me keep up to date with the ever changing world of dentistry. I look forward to working more with both Dr. Michael and Mia. When I am not at work, I enjoy gardening (actually I would say I am a bit obsessed), volunteering, travelling but most of all I enjoy spending time with my family.

At Gooding Dental Health, we know thatclenching and grinding is a common result of the daily stresses we deal with in society. That's why we offer several treatment options for patients in need of occlusal therapy. Occlusal therapy derives from the word occlusion, with refers to how your top and bottom teeth come together. Patients in need of occlusal therapy may experience a variety of negative affects. Individuals who are prone to either daytime or

With occlusal therapy, our doctors can help lessen these negative affects and restore teeth that have been damaged by excessive tooth wear. We offer two types of nightguards to our patients who suffer from nighttime grinding, an in-house nightguard and a lab made occlusal guard. Our 'in-house' nightguard is made in the office and is a less bulky and more cost effective option. Patients who have never worn an occlusal appliance or who have trouble sleeping with bulkier occlusal guards may prefer this option. For patients who are heavy grinders and have had success wearing the in house nightguard, we recommend having an occlusal guard made by our lab. These lab made occlusal guards are more costly but are much stronger and can help limit the jaw movement, which can help relieve some grinding related jaw soreness as well.

Some patients who experience heavy clenching and grinding or jaw related headaches may also benefit from an occlusal equilibration. This process is beneficial to people who suffer from a mild malocclsion, which is when your top and bottom teeth don't touch together evenly. Occlusal equilibration involves your doctor taking away small amounts of tooth structure on the occlusal surfaces (biting side) of teeth with a dental drill until all your teeth touch at the same time. The amount of tooth structure removed during this process is minimal and does not cause any deleterious effects.

For patients who suffer from a moderate or severe malocclusion, more extensive treatment options may be better. Orthodontically repositioning teeth with Invisalign is a reliable and non-invasive approach to correcting poor bites. Additionally, teeth that have lost tooth structure from grinding may be moving as a result of this loss in tooth structure. This is commonly the case for individuals who have shortened front teeth, where as tooth structure is lost from the biting surfaces, those teeth move to fill in the space. As the process continues, the teeth still touch in the same area, however, the lengths of the teeth are greatly reduced. In cases such as these, putting the teeth back where they used to be is often just the first step of treatment. Once the teeth are correctly aligned, they can be restored to recreate your ideal smile.

Restoring heavily worn teeth can help patients get their smile back, or give them the smile they always wished that had. For mild tooth wear, cosmetic bonding or veneers may be enough to give your teeth the desired look. However, for more significant wear, bonding and veneers are not strong enough to withstand heavy grinding forces and full coverage crowns are a more stable solution. Restoring teeth with crowns is also helpful for correcting certain malocclusions.

Dr. Michael Gooding has had years of additional education and training specific to understanding occlusion and Dr. Mia is following in his footsteps. At our office, you can feel confident that our doctors will give you the best care possible and will be happy to discuss any questions you may have.

Hadn't been to a dentist in almost 3 years due to covid, needed an appointment on short notice due to an upcoming move and they were the only place that could get me in the next day. Honestly less of a hassle than when I was going every 6 months, even with new patient x-rays/ exam. The cleaning itself was also not at all unpleasant
