Michael Dougherty, DDS graduated from the University of Iowa College of Dentistry. He moved to the Denver area after a tour in the US Air Force during which he served as a chief dental surgeon at an Air Force base overseas.

He has served both his profession and community by offering comprehensive dental care to families and individuals, educational sessions to other dentists, chairing committees, establishing dental study club activities, directing dental care for hospitalized patients, volunteering for health fairs, and donating dental care services annually to the Colorado Division for the Handicapped. Dr. Dougherty has been instrumental in improving methods and delivery of dental services through the use of unique clinical education programs and dental equipment. He has presented at both national and international dental conferences.

In conjunction with a highly trained office staff and highly qualified dental laboratories, and the use of only quality dental products and materials, Dr. Dougherty optimally addresses the oral health care needs of patients of all ages.

Dr. Dougherty is a native of Clarion, Iowa and lives in Aurora. He and his wife Jackie have a son, a daughter, and a grandson. In his free time, Dr. Dougherty enjoys hiking, camping, scuba diving, and traveling to locations around the world.

I specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of periodontal disease by providing non-surgical periodontal therapy, patient education, and preventive care to my patients to achieve and maintain good oral health. My patients are my favorite part of my job. The long-term relationships that I get to build with my patients mean a lot to me and achieving individual oral health goals, together with the help of my patients, always gives me a great sense of satisfaction.

I was born in Kathmandu, Nepal. I moved to the US back in 1999 and have lived in Colorado ever since. I am married to Shyam and we have a little girl together, Rayna. We also have a furry family member, Rocco, who keeps us active. I love to hike, run, and enjoy quiet afternoons by the lake. Lately, we have also discovered lots of fun new activities we can do with our little girl, like going to the zoo, dancing, and finger painting!

I am originally from Kansas and moved to Colorado in 2008. I absolutely love living here. I enjoy going to the mountains, going on hikes, skiing, and just enjoying the outdoors. I am also scuba certified and always look forward to my next dive trip.

I assist Dr. Dougherty with all aspects of our patients treatment, by providing hands-on care and making sure each visit is exceptional. I earned my EDDA certificate in 1998 from T.H. Pickens Technical College, and my Associate of Science in 2004. I continue to advance my training in endodontics, prosthetics, oral surgery, and general dentistry. I find great satisfaction in restoring the mouth to perfection. What was once broken can be fixed, and I am so proud to be a part of that. There is no one better than Dr. Dougherty. He has proven that people can smile for a lifetime!

I have two children and a dog. I am into softball and love to play all sports. In my free time, I work as a plumber and handyman. I also fix cars and trucks as a hobby, and have volunteered with the Special Olympics since I was six years old.

Not only are the aligners virtually invisible, they are removable, so you can eat and drink what you want while in treatment. Plus, brushing and flossing are no problem. They are also more comfortable than traditional braces, with no metal or wires, which also usually means you spend less time in your doctor's office getting adjustments. Invisalign treatment also allows you to view your own virtual treatment plan when you start so you can see how your straight teeth will look when your treatment is complete.

You wear each set of aligners for about two weeks, removing them only to eat, drink, brush, and floss. As you replace each aligner with the next in the series, your teeth will move little by little, week by week until they have straightened to their final positions. You'll visit us about once every six weeks to ensure that your treatment is progressing as planned. Total treatment time averages nine to 15 months and the average number of aligners worn during treatment is between 18 and 30, but both will vary from case to case.
