Dr. Doty received his undergraduate degree from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln in 1983. He continued his education at the University of Nebraska College of Dentistry where he received his Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree in 1987. After graduation, Dr. Doty was among a select group to be employed by the College of Dentistry as an instructor for the summer clinics. He began practicing dentistry in McCook, Nebraska, where he owned and operated his dental office from 1987-1996.
Dr. Doty relocated to Abingdon where he continued the established practices of Dr. Jim Stanley and Dr. Ramsey White. During the years since his graduation, Dr. Doty has acquired specialized training from the renowned Pankey Institute, the Center for Advanced Dental Studies in Florida, and at Spear Education in Scottsdale, Arizona, where he has been a member of the Visiting Faculty Club and a Mentor for the past four years. All three groups focus on comprehensive dentistry for optimal restoration of the teeth, jaws, muscles, and TMJ to create beautiful, healthy smiles designed to complement each patients unique facial features. We are proud that our patients receive a high level of care found only in a small percentage of dental offices in the United States. Dr. Dotys training allows him to treat beyond general dentistry by considering the entire masticatory system as well as the best cosmetic and restorative solutions for his patients.
In his out-of-office time, Dr. Dotys love of the outdoors keeps him busy working on home landscaping projects. He also enjoys boating with his family and snow skiing. Family is very important to Dr. Doty and he visits his children and his four sisters and their families whenever possible.

I have been living in Abingdon for 9 months and did not have a dentist when I broke a tooth. I called Dr. Doty's office and they got me in that day. I am terrified of dentists and the entire office staff was friendly, professional, and empathetic towards my fears. Dr Doty was kind and very concerned for my comfort. It was the best numbing experience I have had at a dentist. I needed a crown to fix my tooth, and two days later they had a cancellation and got my crown done I highly recommend Dr Doty and his staff.

Wonderful staff! They are so patient, caring and friendly! Dr. Doty takes his time to listen to you and answer any question you may have! The office is also incredibly clean! Would recommend to anyone!

Being new to town, finding health care can be a challenge. Dr. Doty and his staff are more than professional, they are personal as well. They were sensitive to my anxiety about dental care and spent the time needed with me, without making me feel rushed. Brittany, my hygienist, was gentle and communicated with me throughout my cleaning, so I could understand exactly how things were going. I highly recommend this dentist and will certainly trust him and his staff with my dental needs! (they even hand wrote a thank you note after my visit!)

This was my first visit today and wow! The amount of kindness and professionalism I experienced here today was amazing! I'm so happy with the plans we came up with together and I loved the all around atmosphere of the office. I felt so welcomed!

If you want a dentist that doesn't lecture you, is completely transparent about what needs to be done (and why) and does their job extremely well, Doty's office is the place to go. These guys operate at a level of professionalism that you can trust. They are EXTREMELY meticulous: I'm talking face shields, fancy gadgets, clean tools, massage chairs and pinpoint accurate work. I've never seen anything like it. I would not be surprised if the level of dental work offered here was competitive on a national level, let alone the best in this county. For example, when I went to Aspen Dental, the process of being anesthetized was brutal. It felt like a needle going into my raw gums and I had to brace myself for it every time. I absolutely DREADED going there. These guys applied some special compound and I barely felt anything for a second. And it was exceptionally effective throughout the entire procedure. The work I had done was very well-packaged, compact and contained to one area. My mouth didn't feel like a sensitive wreck of a construction zone afterwards. It was just seamless efficiency, and extremely impressive work around very small gaps and tight spaces that I've seen others struggle with and mismanage many other times before. They work like human computers. But make no mistake, the human aspect is amazing too. They're very hospitable. They make communication their number one priority and are very strategic in dealing with your dental problems. As someone who needs major restorative work, they took away so many of my fears of seeing a dentist. You feel like you're part of their team. I'm not nervous about going to the dentist anymore and go out of my way to make sure that I keep these guys as my sole source of dental care. This place is one of the best decisions you'll ever make, especially if you need serious work done like me. It is literally the best care that money can buy in Abingdon.

Back in March my husband and I came to southwestern Virginia to isolate from COVID-19. Yesterday I had a dental emergency and am extremely grateful that Dr. Doty and his team were able to see me and make the necessary arrangements to take care of my mouth.
