Dr. Cheng is an experienced dentist with a strong background in science. In addition to all the routine dental services you would expectdental exams, cleanings, fillings, etc.she also has the skill and training needed to perform advanced procedures like dental implant placement and bone grafting.

While she found her research work extremely interesting, Dr. Cheng had a deep desire to improve human health more directly. This desire led her to the field of dentistry, where she could use her skilled and artistic hands to help people improve their oral health and transform their smiles.
Following her passion, Dr. Cheng earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) Degree from the University of Detroit Mercy, where she graduated at the top of her class and was elected to Omicron Kappa Upsilon (OKU), a National Honor Dental Society. She also received General Practice Residency (GPR) training at the Ann Arbor Veterans Hospital and the University of Michigan Hospital, during which she gained experience treating medically compromised patients and individuals with complex dental needs.
Dr. Cheng maintains memberships in the American Dental Association, Michigan Dental Association, and Academy of General Dentistry. She firmly believes in lifelong learning and has been to various continuing education courses every year in order to deliver optimal care for all of her patients. When not practicing dentistry, Dr. Cheng enjoys spending time with her husband, their two children, and is proud of being an avid runner!
Dr. Zhou graduated from West China University of Medical Sciences in 1991. After graduation, he went on to complete orthodontic specialty training and obtained a PhD from the same University. Once Dr. Zhou moved to the United States, he completed a three-year graduate Periodontics and Implant Dentistry Residency Program at Medical College of Georgia, in which he received his certifications for Periodontics. Dr. Zhou is a board certified Diplomat of the American Board of Periodontology.
Dr. Zhou is currently a clinical professor at the University of Detroit Mercy, School of Dentistry. He strives to provide high quality multidisciplinary treatment, with focus on periodontics and implant dentistry. Dr. Zhou lectures dentistry internationally and has published a number of peer-reviewed articles.
Dr. Smillie ran this practice for 47 years. He saw and treated many patients while serving the community. He still enjoys playing tennis and traveling frequently. Dr. Smillie fully endorses Dr. Cheng as the new owner of this dental practice. He has offered to sit down with patients that may have questions pertaining to their treatment. He comes in occasionally as a coach and mentor to our dental staff, although he is fully retired and enjoying it.
Shawna has been in the dental field for the last two years after spending over 10 years in healthcare. She has a passion for helping people find a path to a healthy and beautiful smile. Whether it's navigating insurance benefits, planning treatment for our uninsured patients, or just making our patients feel at home, she is ready to go the extra mile. In her free time she enjoys traveling and hiking, especially finding new places to explore in and around Michigan.
Courtney was born and raised in Riverview, Michigan. She went to the University of Michigan-Dearborn where she obtained her Bachelors of Science, majoring in Biology and minoring in Psychology. She then went on to Baker College-Clinton Township where she obtained her dental hygiene license. Courtney is very passionate about helping patients meet their dental hygiene goals and coming up with different ways to help them achieve those goals. in her free time she takes care of her snakes and actually has another job coaching gymnastics. She has a lot of hobbies including weight lifting.
Angela was raised in Gibraltar, MI. This is where she took two years of Dental Occupation courses through her high schools vocational school program. She has made this a wonderful career for herself, being in the field for the past 20 years. She enjoys helping Dr. Cheng achieve the dental care her patients truly deserve, and is knowledgeable in all aspects of Dentistry.

Dr. Cheng and her staff are phenomenal. I've had so many good experiences here and I can't say enough things about her, her dental assistant, or her front desk assistant. I just started seeing her in May because I had an unknown abscess. I was a new patient but in a lot of pain so she got me in within 24 hours. My significant other didn't know I'd gotten an appointment already so he booked one for me with his dentist for that same day. I went to that dentist (who was great and has a nice practice) and she told me I'd have to get the tooth pulled and then a bone graft (which is expensive) and set something up with a specialist in June. It was sound advice and she's also a well-known and respected dentist in the area but I'm so, so glad I kept my appointment with Dr. Cheng the next day. She had a slightly different opinion, thinking it didn't need to be pulled and that a procedure with an endodontist would have a good chance at saving the tooth, preventing me from getting an extraction and bone grafting. She referred an excellent endodontist to me and she was right--the tooth was moving a lot because of the abscess but when he fixed it, the tooth settled and has been very healthy since. I went from really suffering before I called her and having pain and not a lot of hope for getting it resolved to feeling fantastic. I'm so glad for her insight and referral because it likely saved me some money and a longer period of pain. I just recently had pain right before a weekend for another issue and she and her staff are so prompt, compassionate, and helpful. She got back to me quickly and even texted me the next day to help me get a prescription sent in on a day the office was closed because she knew I was in pain and had had some insurance issues. She and her dental assistant are very careful and gentle. For both situations, my teeth and gums hurt to the touch but they were able to work on them without causing more pain and resulting in relief. They're personable and although I'm not anxious about dental appointments, a lot of people are and I think this would be a great team for them. Her front desk assistant is also lightning fast on responses and she is so friendly and incredibly helpful and informative. I know this is a long review and I almost never write reviews for things like this but I just had to share because I think they provide amazing care and can't recommend them enough. I originally went to Dr. Smilie and was sad when he retired but it's so wonderful to have somebody like Dr. Cheng take over his practice. It continues his legacy of compassionate care and she's one of my favorite dentists I've had.

I absolutely love this dentist. I usually have terrible anxiety with the dentist due to bad experiences but the women in this office were so sweet and made me feel completely comfortable. They explained the work I would need and they create a plan for you . I would highly recommend this dentist office to anyone.

Not a good experience for me. After a cleaning, she recommended replacing all the fillings in my mouth "because they're old". I let her replace one, then realized I was just wasting money. Took my business across the hall. And these old fillings are still performing well.
