Dr. Greg and Dr Kelsey have both attained certifications with the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry, which represents the highest possible credentials within the field of Pediatric Dentistry. Dr. Greg Mertes, a North East Ohio native, earned his undergraduate degree in psychology at Kent State University in 1997. He graduated from the University Of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine in 2001, and completed a general practice residency at MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland in 2002. He then completed his specialty training in pediatric dentistry at Childrens Hospital of Wisconsin in Milwaukee in 2004. He was a staff pediatric dentist at Dayton Childrens Hospital for two years until 2006.
In 2006, Dr. Mertes established his private practice in Hudson, Ohio. He also became a member of the medical staff at Akron Childrens Hospital. His relationship with the hospital expanded when he opened his second office on the campus of Akron Childrens Hospital campus specifically established for the treatment of early childhood caries in children on medical assistance. He is a member of the American Dental Association, the Akron Dental Society, the Ohio Dental Association, the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, the American Orthodontic Society, and is a Diplomate in the College of Diplomates of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry.
Dr. Mertes is committed to serving the dental needs of infants, children, adolescents and individuals with special healthcare needs and providing educational information to his patients regarding preventative dental care, oral hygiene, and proper nutrition.
Outside of the office Dr. Greg resides in Hudson, Ohio along with his three children Ava, Gavin, and Greta. He enjoys spending time with his family, cooking, fishing, playing soccer, as well as coaching soccer and playing with Legos. Dr. Greg also loves the Cleveland Browns, and his favorite band is Phish.
Kelsey Stehli grew up locally on a blueberry farm in Mantua, Ohio. She graduated with honors from Ohio State with a degree in International Relations and spent 6 months in Brazil post graduation working in an orphanage. After spending time with the children there she felt driven to develop a skill she could use to help children and discovered her love for dentistry. After a grueling year of science prerequisites, she was accepted to Ohio State University College of Dentistry where she graduated with honors. Following graduation, she went into a two year residency program at Rainbow Babies and Childrens Hospital where she focused her skills on pediatric and hospital dentistry. During residency she served as chief resident and was even asked to stay on as a part time faculty member post graduation! Dr Kelsey recently finished up work for her board certification and is now a Diplomate in the College of Diplomates of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry.
Kelsey loves treating children and feels very fortunate to be able to participate in the care of children from her own childhood community. She enjoys each childs unique personality and strives to provide individualized care specific to each childs needs.
When she is not scrubbing away sugar bugs, she enjoys doing yoga, water sports and spending time with her family and friends including her husband Ray, her cat Miko, and her gigantic Bernese Mountain Dog Atlas.
The clinical team includes hygienists and assistants with abundant pediatric experience who truly enjoy working with children. The office staff is led by our very knowledgeable office manager, Cristie Praeter. Together, they all support the practices high level of operations.
As a pediatric practice, our mission is to provide comprehensive, compassionate, specialized dental care to all children where each patient, parent, and the dental team work together to meet each familys needs. Our philosophy is to provide early intervention in a preventative mode including patient and parent education. We have an excellent team that works well together, supports each other, and cares about the patients.

This office is amazing. We live about 25 mins away. But there are many pediatric offices closer. However, they are timely, they do not overbook themselves. They also know kids. And offer, for a nominal fee, "laughing gas" to avoid the novicaine shot panic. Sometimes in life we have to teach our kids to grow up and deal with life's aches n pains. However, there are times its best to curb the anxiety. Plus, I feel too many people have dentist anxiety that probably started early in life. Might as well avoid that. Most importantly, it's not fair to the other patients to freak them out because my child is having an unrational panic attack due to a shot, which I myself detest. Those shots do hurt. Love this office, kid friendly, professional and always attentative to time.

I started bringing my son here based on the recommendations of my sister. Everyone is the office is very professional and friendly. The communication has been wonderful with appointment reminders and even when they've had earlier openings. Dealing with insurance and cost has been a smooth process as well. Pretty cut and dry. The office environment is fun and really caters to the needs of children, of all ages. I would recommend Dr. Mertes and his team to all my friends.

We love Mertes Pediatric Dentistry. They are friendly and endlessly patient with wiggly or nervous kiddos. Everything is explained before they do it, in age appropriate terms that help kids feel more comfortable. We have liked every staff person we've met, and have never had a negative experience in 8 years of care!

Mertes Pediatric Dentistry is a great dentist for children! They are accommodating to all children and make kids as comfortable as they can for their dental visits. I took my 2 young children at the same time and hygienists Christina and Martha helped make my kids experience amazing. They made sure my kids knew the procedure, showed them the dental tools prior to using them, and even let my son move the chair up and down himself prior to making him sit in it. They also talk to the kids at their level! I can't recommend them enough!

This was our first time coming to the office and they made us feel so welcome. My son was upset because he is scared of the dentist, however they did everything they could to try to make him comfortable. Dr. Mertes and his staff are so kind and patient!

Absolutely love this dentist office! My daughter needed a cavity filled and we had to use nitrous oxide. I was So nervous for her. Everyone at this office made both of us comfortable and they are super sweet. If I could give 10 stars they would get it!

We had a surgery at Akron childrens planned for my daughter to get crowns and fillings. The dental work that was planned was from an xray Dr.MERTES TOOK IN HIS OFFICE. The surgery coordinator didn't Call with the quotes she told us she would call with. I had to call them multiple times regarding what we would be responsible for. The day before my daughter's procedure the office called and gave an overview of what we discussed in the visit. During that same phone call the office said that we would have to sign a consent form allowing Dr. Mertes to extract teeth if need be. I advised I was not ok with that considering it was not something that showed to be an issue on the x-rays they took. I informed the office that I would not sign a consent for that to happen , they said Dr. Mertes would talk to us about it at the hospital. Knowing we were not ok with it, they should have cancelled the procedure if it was going to be an issue for them prior to surgery. The next day we took our daughter to Akron Childrens and of course she was anxious bc it was dental work and she is 4. Prior to surgery Dr. MERTES SAID IF if didn't sign the form he wouldn't be able to do the surgery. This should have been told to me the prior day before we took our daughter into the hospital and had her upset. We went ahead with the procedure bc she was already worked up about being there and I didn't want her to have to go through the process again from start with a different dentist. Had it not been for her already being there at Akron Childrens we would not have used Dr. MERTES. After this we will not go to his office and will not be recommending their office to anyone who wants to have a say over work performed on their child prior to it being done while under anesthesia. Reply- in regards to your response to this post...***** if you are referring to the times multiple times I had to call and sit on hold for over 45 min , twice while you guys tried to figure out if the surgery coordinator ran our insurance ( should have been done prior to 5 business days before surgery) then yes but I also had to sit on hold for those " hours you worked on our case" very unprofessional, rushy, rude, pushy, just a horrible experience all around. The way this office conducts business and behaves is astounding. Do not sell your family short of better care go somewhere else.
