Our purpose as a dental team is to educate patients about good dental health care to give them a better quality of life. We want to deliver dental services in a caring and gentle manner in a pain-free environment. We want to continue expanding our dental services as we increase our knowledge and understanding of dental disease. We want to deliver the ultimate dental care in a professional manner with the highest dental skills. Finally, as an office, we want to create an environment that is stress-free and allows the team to enjoy their work in a relaxed manner and to have fun in the process.
Our vision is to continually advance our knowledge and expertise in all relevant areas of dental and general healthcare to ensure the highest standard of care. We wish to provide the highest quality of dental care available in the world and to transform the quality of life for our patients and their loved ones in profound ways.
Kaila has been a Registered Dental Hygienist for well over 30 years starting off her career in Pedodontics, then moving into General Practice. After so many years, she is still very passionate about her job and gets the most gratification connecting with patients and seeing the results of making a positive effect on the overall health of her patients. Kaila has taken many additional courses with a focus on periodontics, and feels her forte is helping people feel comfortable and at ease, as well as helping them have an understanding of what their specific needs may be. Kaila grew up in Louisiana,where her family is from, and still resides. Her education was completed at TJC in Tyler, TX which carried the high prestige of being 3rd in the nation at that time for Dental Hygiene. She has been in many areas of Dallas since graduation practicing 5 years in Richardson, 20 years in Mesquite and has been with Merit Dental Care since 2013.
Dr. David Hughes grew up in Oregon and completed his dental education in 1969 at the University of Oregon Dental School. He raised his family with three children on a small rural farm in Sherwood, Oregon. He met his wife, Linda, at Abilene Christian College while working on a research project in the Summer of 1968. He has practiced dentistry for 50+ years in Tigard, Oregon; Vernon, Texas; and now in Dallas, Texas with Merit Dental Care. He loves helping patients achieve a beautiful smile through smile makeovers. He has special training in cosmetic dentistry. He is presently building a team of 5 dentists and specialists to treat all dental needs in his newly expanded office. Dr. Hughes has been involved in the American Dental Association and was editor of Washington County Dental Society. He is a Paul Harris Fellow with Rotary International and was Vice President and President Elect for the Tigard Chamber of Commerce. His service awards include: Cambridge Whos Who Lifetime Membership; Consumer Research Council Of America, Top Dentist Awards for several years, and was the 1999 Oregon Businessman of the Year. His love of dentistry is shown in his passion to help people. Dr. Hughes interest with his wife of 50 years is travelling with his family and friends, collecting American Indian artifacts, autographs and fossils. His personal library includes about 3,000 books with heavy interest in History. He teaches a class on History of the English Bible. He and Linda love the special times now with their kids and 9 grand kids in the Metroplex. This is what brought them to Texas.
Brenda is the front office assistant. She has been working for Merit Dental Care since March 2013 however she has been in the dental field for 29 years. She enjoys working with patients and helping elderly people. She is the type of person who will go the extra mile for the patients at our practice, whether it be fighting insurance on their behalf or just making sure they feel comfortable. She was born and raised in Dallas and graduated from high school in North Dallas. She is the oldest of six kids, five girls and the youngest is a boy. Her family is #1 in her life. She has six nephews and five nieces that she spends a lot of time with. Her other passion is her love of animals and enjoys house sitting.
Kelly has been a RegisteredDentalAssistant for over 25 years. She started off in pediatric dentistry then switched over to general dentistry. She loves working with people of all ages to help maintain their smiles and a healthy mouth. Her hobbies are camping, fishing and spending time with her grandchildren. She absolutely loves working atMeritDentalCare. Dr. Hughes is very sweet and the people are very friendly. Outside of the office she enjoys the great outdoors and spending time with family and her 4 grand-children.
Courtney has been serving our patients since 2016. Her consistently kind and gentle care for our patients embodies the culture of our office. She loves her work and the opportunity to help someones overall health by treating their oral health. She is an expert in her field and always willing to help. If you are lucky enough to be in her chair, you will see the passion to help others shine through. Courtney grew up in Odessa and graduated from Texas Tech with a degree in marketing but she kept feeling the pull of her scientific side and ultimately graduated Texas Womens University with a degree in Dental Hygiene and has been hooked ever since. She has also invented a tool for the dental office that she is passionate about. She loves her patients and strives to always meet their changing needs. She is recently engaged and set to marry in early Fall.
Veronica has been in the dental field for over 5 years as a Registered Dental Assistant. She enjoys educating and encouraging patients through their dental journey. Veronicas favorite part of her job is providing patients the experience of good dental care and making sure they leave with a great smile. In her spare time she enjoys dancing, baking and spending time with family and friends.
Melissa has been in the dental field for over 35 years and has served multiple roles in different offices. You will usually see her upon your arrival at the office or when you are checking out. She helps our patients manage their care with us and her experience is used daily in helping patients walk through complicated treatment plans and insurance utilization. Melissas experience and quality of work is because of her caring nature. She has always cared for those around her and it shows in her willingness to get all those logistics figured out. Melissa is married and has a large blended family of 6 kids and 6 grandkids. When she is not at work she and her husband enjoy traveling, boating and spending time on the lake or beach.
Celeste has been a Registered Dental Hygienist for 37 years and still to date Loves what she does. She has a knack for making you feel at ease as well as explaining dental needs and procedures. Celeste is a Texas girl from Tyler and enjoys gardening, needlework, reading and special time with the family. She is the newest member here at Merit Dental Care and we are super excited to add her to the team.

Dr. Hughes is the most compassionate dentist I've ever been to. I have been going to Merit Dental for close to 2 years now. The care he AND his staff have provided me has been exceptional. I have severe dental anxiety due to issues with a past dentist. Dr. Hughes and his staff are all so understanding, patient and make me feel so at ease. They are very gentle and let me know step by step what is being done. They truly care about their patients. If you're looking for a dentist, I highly recommend Merit Dental Care.

Dr. Hughes and his staff are the best, most compassionate dental team in DFW... if not the country. The care he and his staff have provided me has been exceptional. Finding a dentist that does terrific work can be difficult, but finding a dentist that does terrific work and truly cares about his patients the way the staff at Merit Dental does is nearly impossible. If I could give more stars I truly would! I have never been to a more caring dental office in my life! Being a new patient anywhere is a little nerve wrecking but this office did a wonderful job at listening to the issues I have had in the past with discomfort and made sure it wasn't not an issue today! I also really appreciated being talked through the work that was being done because If you are all up in my mouth all personal like, I want to know what you are doing and how to keep from the same issues in the future. Thank you to everyone in this office for being nice and comforting!!

Merit-Dental is warm, friendly atmosphere. Dr. David Hughes is an excellent dentist. He is prompt, kind & gentle. Front desk, hygienist and dental assistance always have a smi. le on their face. Everyone is very informative. They work well with your insurance company. I highly recommend Merit-Dental.

The dentist and hygienist were good. I have been to several dentist in my life and the dental hygienist was the most careful and caring I've had. I wish I could give her alone five stars. However, the lady at the checkout informed my boyfriend she was going through a divorce and she had got this job recently. I thought she was just overfriendly and had a problem with oversharing, but within a day or two she messaged my boyfriend through the work phone. She said she "creeped on his Facebook" and found her soon to be ex step son was his friend. I definitely have to subtract stars for her lack of preofessionalism. It was a great dentist but we won't be going back unless we are informed she no longer works there.
