Dr. John Mergen has been providing happy smiles to patients in Johnson County and the surrounding areas since 1997. Dr. Mergen is a second generation orthodontist who watched his father build patients self-esteem by improving their smiles. He began making retainers for his fathers practice, which piqued his interest further in orthodontics. He realized he wanted to follow in his fathers footsteps and committed to an accelerated 3-year honors program at the University of Iowa College of Dentistry. In 1995, he graduated with honors, graduating 2nd in his class of 87. Upon graduation, Dr. Mergen accepted 1 of 5 spots into the top orthodontic graduate program in the country at the University of Iowa College of Dentistry, where he earned his masters degree in 1997.
