A pediatric dentist is different than a family dentist. Think of pediatric dentists as the pediatricians of dentistry. In order to become a pediatric dentist, our doctors completed two additional years of specialty training following their four year dental school education.
In their specialty training, pediatric dentists become experienced in behavior guidance techniques to help children have a pleasant and painless dental experience. They are experts in the treatment of baby teeth, supervision of orofacial growth and development, cavity prevention, and pharmacological management. In addition, pediatric dentists receive specialty training in treating children with special health care needs.
Brian K. Allen, DMD Pediatric Dentist Dr. Allen was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. He received his DMD degree with honors from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of NJ, now called Rutgers Dental School. He completed his residency in Pediatric Dentistry at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York, where he served one year as chief resident.
Dr. Allen is an attending pediatric dentist and associate professor at Maimonides Medical Center and is a visiting adjunct professor in the Department of Childrens Dentistry at Hadassah Medical Center in Jerusalem.
Dr. Allen is an active member of the Mercer County Dental Society, where he served as president from 2002 to 2003. He is also actively involved in the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and the American Society of Dentistry for Children. In his spare time, Dr. Allen enjoys traveling and spending time with his wife of 28 years, their children and grandchild.
Kristy L. Slachta, DMD Dr. Slachta (aka Dr. Kristy) was born and raised in Yardville, New Jersey. She was one of four individuals accepted into the seven-year accelerated biology/DMD program with Villanova University and the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine, where she received her DMD degree.
Dr. Slachta completed her residency in pediatric dentistry at St. Christophers Hospital for Children in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. During her second year of residency, she served as chief resident. She is currently an attending pediatric dentist and associate professor at St. Christophers.
Dr. Slachta is a board-certified pediatric dentist (Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry). She became board certified through a voluntary two-year examination process, which involved a written qualifying examination and an oral clinical examination covering all areas of information of which a pediatric dentist should be knowledgeable. Dr. Slachtas certification in the ABPD is renewed annually, so that she can maintain her board-certified status. Her involvement in the certification process is a demonstration of her pursuit of continued excellence in pediatric dentistry. Dr. Slachta is also a member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, the American Dental Association and the Mercer County Dental Society.
Megan C. Tigani, DDS Dr. Tigani (aka Dr. Meg) was born and raised in Bethesda, Maryland. She received her Doctor of Dental Surgery from the University of Maryland School of Dentistry and received the Deans Award for Outstanding Community Service for having completed over 200+ hours of service. Dr. Tigani completed her residency in pediatric dentistry at St. Christophers Hospital for Children in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. During her second year, she completed over 100+ operating room cases under general anesthesia, treating children with dental anxiety, special health care needs and/or severe decay.
Dr. Tigani is board-eligible, and she is a member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, the American Dental Association, the New Jersey Dental Association and the American Society of Anesthesiologists.

Dr. Allen and his staff are truly extraordinary. My children unfortunately had negative experiences at prior pediatric dentists - from dentists recommending unnecessary work, to unpleasant experiences while attempting to fill cavities - they had developed a fear of dental offices. But from the moment Lisa answered my call and showed me kindness and compassion as I explained both of my children's situations, I knew we were at the right place. Dr. Allen's presence is so calming and reassuring, my children literally immediately felt comfortable and cooperated fully for their consultation exam. The way Dr. Allen explained what work was truly necessary and why - thoroughly, intelligently, respectfully - sets him far above any other dentist I have encountered. Today Dr. Allen completed a root canal and crown on my 4 year old daughter and I was absolutely shocked at how well it went - my previously terrified daughter calmly and happily allowed Dr. Allen to complete the procedure. Dr. Allen was gentle, patient, and talked my daughter through every step. I cannot thank Dr. Allen and his incredible staff enough, and I will be singing their praises and recommending this office to all of my family and friends. These are people who know how to work with children and put them at ease, and are clearly experts in their field. I honestly believe this is the best pediatric dentist in the state!!

Dr. Kristy, Dr. Meg, and Dr. Allen are all so great and so is all the staff! Accommodating and friendly. Been going for 14 years and the ONLY dentist I recommend! Cannot say enough about this practice!

My daughter had a toothache and due to her past traumatic experience she was afraid of dentist. We searched for the best children's dentist in our area and stumbled across this location. From the initial conversation to set up the appointment. I could immediately feel the passion behind making each child feel comfortable . I explained the reservations that I and my daughter had. The empathy that I sensed from the receptionist, made it easy for me to book the appointment . We were also able to get in the same day. The service and attention to detail was best in class. Each and every person that assisted in serving my daughter was professional, and did a great job at easing any worries that my husband and I had. They went above and beyond to make sure that my baby was comfortable. If you are looking for a dentist with top notch service. This is the place for you !

It's truly a unique dental experience my children love. Dr. Kristy and staff are exceptional! She made my son feel so comfortable every step of the way when fixing a really bad cavity. My son was terrified of having three teeth extracted. Dr Allen knew exactly what to do to get it done. My son was relaxed and the whole procedure was super quick and "painless"... totally amazing! Staff is so nice and friendly... what a great experience for something otherwise unpleasant. Cannot recommend enough!!

What a wonderful practice! My boys love going to the dentist! Dr. Allen is great with the kids and puts them right at ease. We feel so at home there. The staff are knowledgeable, professional, and thorough. They answer my questions before I even know to ask them. I feel so fortunate to have found this practice. I can't recommend them highly enough. We travel all the way from Pennsylvania to go to this practice and it is well worth it! They are amazing!

I would highly recommend this practice! My son is three and knocked his front tooth loose during a fall. We hadn't found a dentist yet so I basically googled the closest place and frantically called at 5pm at night and the receptionist told me to come right in. He was seen immediately by Dr. Kristy and she was so warm and kind it helped him calm down. She gave wonderful care and advice. We had to get the tooth extracted and she gave us the option of doing it then or waiting till the next morning. She fit us into her schedule the next morning despite it being a holiday week. She was so funny and warm with my son during the procedure that he stayed relaxed and did wonderfully. And this is a minor detail, but she knew all the little shows and toys he enjoys and was able to talk to him about some of his favorite characters. I felt that helped him feel comfortable with her. After it was all done he was allowed to pick out five presents from the 'treasure chest'. My son was so pleased walking out of there with his goody bag that he barely cared his mouth still felt numb. Also, it's important for me to mention that not only is Dr. Kristy great but I had to call in to ask a few questions and spoke to Dr. Allen who was also very warm and helpful. The nurses and admin staff were also very kind and friendly. The whole practice is very patient focused with warm staff and dentists. Lastly, I should note that we don't have dental insurance but the out of pocket rates were very reasonable. Needless to say I really appreciate the wonderful care we got and highly recommend the practice. And, we will be returning there for regular exams.

my 2 year old (who is very shy and cautious) had a great first experience here! she even asked to go back once we left. from the receptionist, to the hygienist, to the dentist, everyone was kid friendly and sought to make my daughter comfortable. dentist was easy to talk to and answered all of my questions. my daughter was very proud of her new toothbrushes and prizes she got for getting her teeth cleaned. I highly recommend this place!

Can't say enough about how nice and accommodating the staff are at Mercer children's dentistry. They made my nervous 5 year old feel very relaxed and comfortable for his appointment. Everyone went above and beyond for him. He didn't have a good prior experience elsewhere and this place was the total opposite. This is hands down the best place to bring your child for a great dental experience. All the staff were the nicest people. Thanks

Just wanted to say how awesome and professional the Dentist and the whole entire staff was. They made my Granddaughter 1st visit a very good first experience, they made her feel so comfortable and talked her through everything they did and kept telling her was a good job she was doing. I give Mercer Children 's Dentistry 5 stars and I would highly recommend them to my family and friends! Thank you everyone!
