I love how, as an orthodontist, I can transform shy, reserved children into confident teenagers and adults with beautiful smiles. Indeed, this is an extremely rewarding profession where we get the opportunity to truly change lives. Im passionate about everything regarding my profession, the patients, my involvement in organized dentistry, and the interaction with other dentists and specialists, especially on our surgical cases that require extensive multidisciplinary care. What excites me the most is that I can have fun at work; I love my job! The most satisfying thing is knowing that I have touched my patients in such a significant way, both aesthetically and emotionally; that we have truly improved their quality of life. Orthodontics has provided me with the opportunity to enrich myself personally through the contact Ive had with the thousands of patients Ive treated.
As a member of El Paso del Norte Study Club, I have the opportunity to discuss complex cases in a multidisciplinary environment, to understand how to better communicate and treat patients with the referring dentist and other specialists, and to attend programs that provide continuing education in order to stay current and up-to-date with the latest scientific and technological advances.
Originally from Columbia, I now reside in El Paso with my husband, Matthew, and our two sons, Mathias and Max. I am a hard-core soccer and baseball mom, but when I find time I also enjoy yoga, cross fit, mountain biking, and snowboarding.
My involvement in the community is through my work. Our office has the largest volume of patients on Medicaid in El Paso. We have been accepting Medicaid for over two decades, insuring that every child, regardless of their income, has an opportunity for orthodontic treatment.
Orthodontics involves the combination of both health and beauty, and is a specialty that delivers rich, rewarding results. To see a patient motivated with their treatment and ultimately happy with the results is very satisfying. Providing these benefits is personally rewarding and helps improve the self-esteem of my patients, regardless of their age. Seeing the progress in each of our patients, both in their smile and in their confidence, is very important to me. Our team understands that our main goal is to serve our patients, and to provide the highest quality of treatment and customer service. When our patients leave the office with a smile, we know weve met that goal.
I continually attend refresher courses conducted through the American Association of Orthodontists, as well as our local dental society, to keep current on the latest orthodontic technology and have interdisciplinary discussions between different specialties to offer a wide variety of care. For a health care professional, its always important to be at the forefront of knowledge and technology, all for the benefit of our patient.
I am a native of Maracaibo, Venezuela, and recently moved to El Paso with my husband, Gerardo, and our twin daughters, Claudia and Carla. I enjoy sport activities like spinning, relaxing with quiet reading time, and playing with my daughters as much as I can.

My brother went to get braces, after getting his x-rays they initially said that he needed to only get 2 teeth extracted and that on the next appointment he could get braces put on his top teeth. Thus, he went to get them extracted, then on his next appointment he got x-rays again and suddenly he needed to get 4 teeth extracted, which they never mentioned the first time. The dentist also said that it was impossible to put braces on his top teeth, which was totally different from what she had said before. This is very unprofessional, because it shows they have either no word or no expertise. Why mention what was said on the first visit it if it was not true? We decided not to get braces for him, because honestly, what assured us they were not going to go back on their word later on? So, we asked for our money back, it was agreed that she would stay with a percentage of the money we paid them ($1000). Now when we asked for our money back, not only was the woman who answered the phone super rude, but we got told that they were keeping more than half of the money because of the price of the x-rays and they said they needed to tell the accountant and they would call us back. A week later, and we have not heard back from them. In short, they have no word and are very unprofessional, please go visit another dentist.

I had an initial visit appointment. I arrived early, waited in the car as instructed. Filled out the survey. I got tired of waiting in the car. Walked inside after 15 minutes of waiting in the hot car. When I walked in, they said I should have called and that I was late. I was still talking to the "manager" when she turned her back to me and started walking away. She said "you were late, we can reschedule for next month." I asked for time off from work to be there. I wasted, time gas and energy for nothing. Horrible customer service. I had taken all three kids for their treatment to be treated like this! They lost my business this time. Soo disappointed that I have to let go of a Dr I worked with for years due the bad customer service from "manager " and front desk peons. They're more worried about leaving early than taking care of customers.

Every time I came in, it was a long wait. The epidemic was so serious, but the room still accommodated so many people, and there was only one doctor. What was the use of so many nurses.

My son and I were recently at Dr. Mejia's office and went through their COVID 19 check list which made us feel that the office is taking every precaution to have a sterile and safe office visit. We had to wait for a little bit but nothing crazy. Once we were treated by Dr. Mejia and her staff I realized why she was late to our appt, she takes the time to answer any and all questions from all the patients and their families. She has attention to detail and has been the best orthodontist we have had the pleasure of meeting. Her staff is very professional and knowledgeable. If you want a doctor that wants to fix your teeth and kick you out of the office and be cold and unwelcoming DO NOT go with Dr. Mejia. I would recommend Dr. Mejia over any orthodontist in the city. During the pandemic Dr. Mejia's office keep us informed of the closure and when our next appt would be scheduled. "If you want to satisfy everybody, sell TACOS!" La Monja!

Mejia-Maidl Orthodontics is a wonderful experience. The staff is amazing. Everyone takes the time to explain any questions you may have. They just make you feel so good and inviting. Dr. Mejia does so much for each person, I just thank her each and everytime I see her. She is amazing at her job and so knowledgeable. Not a good experience, I've had so many issues with their billing and scheduling appointments. BUT they make sure you pay upfront on the 1st of the moth without fail, or penalties are added even if they don't see you! It is very slow and over priced! Scheduling appointments is very difficult and when you finally get your appointment it take almost 2 hrs long. They don't bill insurance correctly an tell you... they wont remove braces until the insurance pays. Even when you've paid all your portion of the payments...Ridiculous!

Very bad experience with Valerie, Marisol and Assistant Manager. In this place all they care about is to take your money. Suggesting kids to extract teeth. Sounds to me they are just looking for the easy way out. Wouldn't recommend this place to no one...

PLEASE CONSIDER ANOTHER ORTHODONTIST! My daughter began going to this orthodontist in January after getting a referral from her dentist. We were new to the area and unfamiliar with any local specialists (Military Family) Upon being consulted they scheduled my daughter to have her braces placed. Her first initial "braces visit" we waited almost 45 minutes to be seen. During the placement visit- Dr. Mejia decided my daughter needed a couple of teeth pulled... which this should have been identified at the consultation visit. So this appointment was a complete waste of time. I had arranged to take the day off as we weren't sure what to expect. Awaiting on their referral to our dentist to be rescheduled...We had to repeatedly call the office to have the referral of her teeth abstraction to be sent to her dentist. In which they never sent it! We had to physically go and pick up the form to hand carry to her dentist. She finally got her top portion placed after almost 3 weeks of battling for the Referral form, healing from her teeth abstraction and already paying in full for the service. Since this pandemic- my daughter had a visit schedule right the week they had to shut down- no one ever called to cancel. I called the day of, only to find the office was closed. After reopening- no one ever called to reschedule. I had to call. This is the most unprofessional place I'be ever encountered. She had an appointment scheduled last Friday (July 10, 2020)in which the office called to have her rescheduled- due to "Dr. Mejia leaving early"! Which, I was disappointed about but they were able to squeeze her in Monday (July 13) today, I complete their COVID screening online form around 7 am this morning. My daughter's appointment was at 1. I accidentally selected a yes on the questionnaire... I resubmitted a new form with the correct information. Everything seemed to have gone smoothly- no big deal. When we showed up for her appointment and checked in, they then called me to let us know that they were unable to see my daughter due to the yes on the questionnaire. I do not have a problem for them taking cautionary measures. However, they should have called after the questionnaire was submitted to inform me of their policy. Not wait until we checked in. The questionnaire did not notify us of this either. My husband and I both work and this place has no respect to working parents. They are extremely inconsiderate and have become an inconvenience to our schedules. We are a military family who wish we would have been warned of this place. If we did not pay for her services in full during the consultation- we would have definitely taken our services else where! Please save your money and take your children else where. The appointments never start when your scheduled and typically take me two hours in which one of those hours are us waiting to be called and my daughter waiting in the chair to be serviced. I typically never write reviews but this has been such an awful experience for our family.
