Dr. McNutts pursuit of a career in orthodontics stems from his passion for art and serving people. His treatment philosophy is centered on oral health as a first priority and emphasizes patient education. Dr. McNutts first love is being a husband and father to his wife and children. When they are not hard at work, the McNutt family can be found hard at play on the beaches of North Carolina, traveling to visit family and staying busy in their church. The McNutt family settled in NC in 1991. After graduating from Athens Drive High School, Dr. McNutt enlisted in the US ARMY serving both overseas and at Fort Bragg NC.
After finishing his enlistment, he began work on a bachelors degree in psychology at NC State. During his studies there, he continued military service in the National Guard and worked full time as both a graphic artist and an orthodontic assistant. After receiving his bachelors from NC State, Dr. McNutt began the Doctor of Dental Surgery program at UNC Chapel Hill. Throughout the four years of dental school, his interest and participation in orthodontics grew as he worked for the department of orthodontics in both research and clinical areas. After receiving his DDS, Dr. McNutt completed a three year residency at UNC Chapel Hill to earn a Master of Science in Orthodontics. As a graduate of one of the most prestigious residency training programs in the world, Dr. McNutt recognizes he is truly blessed, and is dedicated to giving back to educators and mentoring future dental students.
Every two years Invisalign selects four top doctors in North America for clinical excellence and invites them to present to an audience of over 3,600 orthodontists and staff from around the world. In 2016 Dr. McNutt was awarded this honor and earned the highest scores for the Invisalign Teen in all of North America. Below is a video of his presentation.
A native to North Carolina, Michelle enjoys providing service with a smile. After a successful career, Michelle stepped away from the workforce and devoted fifteen years to her family as a wife and mother to four children. Michelle kept her office and people skills sharp by staying involved with volunteering in their school and extra-curricular activities. While treating her children with braces, Dr. McNutt recruited Michelle to join the McNutt Orthodontics team. As aBreast Cancer Survivor, Michelle doesnt let much stop her. She continues to volunteer in the community and serve others. Michelle enjoys seeing all the families that come into our practice. She is always on hand to provide assistance along their great smile journey.
Andrew is originally from Kansas but has moved throughout the Midwest. After being born in Kansas, he moved up to Canada, back down to Nebraska for six years, up to Minnesota for seven years and finally down to North Carolina where he currently resides. He graduated from North Carolina State University in December of 2011 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences with a concentration in Human Biology. Andrew has as strong interest in dentistry and enjoys helping patients achieve their treatment goals and develop a beautiful smile. He enjoys working for Dr. McNutt because of the very friendly staff and excellent patients. In his spare time, he likes to play on his computer and enjoys bike riding whenever he gets a chance.
Kaitlin earned a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology at UNC Greensboro, Greensboro. Kaitlin has been an avid competitive swimmer most of her life and is a private swim instructor. Kaitlin enjoys her family lifestyle in Clayton NC and stays actively involved in community projects, especially ones that allow her use her talents as a crochet artist.
When Dr. McNutt was an undergraduate student, he worked for a local orthodontic practice for three years while preparing to go to dental school. Such an opportunity is rare for a pre-dental student and it had a tremendous impact on Dr. McNutt. As a result of this experience, Dr. McNutt is dedicated to mentoring future dental students and offering the same type of working pre-dental internships that helped him so much. Our first two pre-dental team members, Hanna Zombek and Megan Morse have gone on to dental school. Our pre-dental interns typically work in our sterilization center, dental plaster lab, help greet and seat patients, help with diagnostic records and assist Dr. McNutt with basic procedures.
Ashley was accepted into the School of Dentistry at ECU in NC. Ashley is originally from Pinehurst, North Carolina. She is a graduate of North Carolina State University with a Bachelors in Biological Sciences with a concentration in Human Biology. Ashley wanted to become a dentist to bring more awareness to the importance of oral health, and to work with others to create beautiful smiles. Her favorite part of working in our practice is learning and interacting with our excellent team and seeing the joy we bring to patients. In her spare time, she enjoys trying new restaurants and traveling with friends and family.
Amelia was accepted into the School of Dentistry at Boston University. Amelia grew up on her familys dairy farm in Western North Carolina. At NC State she majored in Microbiology with a concentration in Microbial Health Sciences and is the universitys first Dance Minor. Amelia went on to earn a masters degree. She aspired to become a dentist to practice the artistic skill of dentistry and has a zeal for serving others. In her free time, she enjoys staying active, spending time with loved ones, and eating sweets (ironically).

We saw Dr. McNutt and his staff today for a consultation to get braces for both of my kids, and I was absolutely blown away. Dr. McNutt was incredibly thorough and I LOVED that he gave the kids their individual plans and spoke to them like he would to his own children. I didn't feel pushed in to anything or like I was just another $$. I told the kids in the car after we left that it has been a long time since I have met a doctor that I liked so much. Dayna (assisted Dr. McNutt) was very knowledgeable and patient with all of my questions and the girl working the front desk (with blonde hair and a warm demeanor) was so welcoming and pleasant. I was going to go to a different orthodontist to get another quote, but I canceled the appointment. I know that my children will be in good hands with Dr. McNutt and his staff!

Everyone is always so nice and generally happy to be taking care of you. My daughter had such a great experience with them that I choose them as well when I got my braces! Every time we have had an issue with anything, they got us right in! It's a great place!

Hello Clayton and Raleigh friends, I wanted to highly recommend McNutt Orthodontics, 16 months ago I found myself needing braces as an adult (also had them when I was young) I can say a humbling experience, my bottom teeth had shifted so majorly, honestly, I didn't see how they would ever be straight again. I got my braces removed on Thursday and it was a happy day for me I was counting down the days and minutes and my teeth and bite are perfect thanks to Dr. McNutt and his wonderful staff. I can not say enough about how wonderful they are caring and truly are about perfection and the friendliest! If your child needs braces go to Dr. Mcnutt and if you are an adult don't be afraid. Thank you to the entire staff at McNutt Orthodontics and thank you Dr. Matthew. And to Mooring Dental thank you thank you. I also highly recommend Dr. Sean Mooring!!! Another caring man and the staff, hygeinists and entire staff truly amazing!

I've been a patient of McNutt Orthodontics in Clayton, NC, for several years now and have always been thoroughly pleased with them. The staff is always pleasant, courteous, and conduct themselves in a very professional manner. Dr. McNutt treats his patients with true kindness and compassion. If you're looking for an amazing orthodonic practice, I highly recommend this one!!

I LOVE this office. Upon numerous recommendations of neighbors and friends, we chose to use this practice when we learned my daughter needed braces. On more than one occasion, we have run into issues because my daughter is pretty rough on braces. Last night was one of those occasions. I texted a picture of the issue to Stacy G. after-hours. She reached out to Dr. McNutt. They let me know how to handle the situation to hold us over until morning and set an appointment for my daughter at 7:30am today. During the school year, they helped set up appointments around her school and soccer schedule. The service has been unbelievable and the folks in the office are amazing. My daughter is very shy, but they go above and beyond to make sure she is comfortable and at ease. I was so impressed with this office following today's visit, that I wanted to share our experiences with the office. I saw, on a recent review, that someone mentioned the office had some sort of contest with prizes for those who wrote reviews?? I've never seen or heard any suggestion of that in the year that we've been frequenting the business? My guess is that folks write the positive reviews because they truly appreciate the superior service this office provides.

I appreciate how he speaks directly to the kids at appointments, explaining everything along the way so they fully understand what and why things are happening. My son has been a patient of Dr. McNutt for the past 3 years! We have received stellar customer service from Dr. McNutt and staff!!! The technician are fantastic between both Clayton and Cary office!! Dr. McNutt is just a wonderful person and a GREAT Orthodontic Dr. Sorry had to comment on the 1 star that I just saw after giving my review and scratching my head. Like most people you value your children's health as well being and my son's confidence has gone up exponentially due to his perfect smile (THANK YOU DR. McNutt!) - People don't give great reviews for POOR service, They give great reviews for exceptional Service especially when it comes to your Child!

I am so thankful for Dr. McNutt and his staff. They are professional, personal and so kind. Not to mention the detailed attention they gave to make my smile perfect. Four of our children have been treated by Dr. McNutt and we have been so impressed. The staff has always been kind, courteous and accommodating and Dr. McNutt himself has been superb. He takes the time to listen, has thoroughly answered all of our questions and has addressed each of our concerns. Our oldest was very apprehensive about the process of correcting his teeth, but Dr. McNutt was able to walk him through each step with confidence. Our children frequently get comments about how well each of their smiles turned out. Dr. McNutt made so many fine-tune adjustments of the smallest things we never noticed in order to get everything "just right". We HIGHLY recommend Dr. McNutt.
